In response to Trey Grayson's formal entry into the Kentucky Senate race, Eric Schultz, Communications Director for the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, released the following statement:
"The people of Kentucky deserve an independent voice in the United States Senate - not a handpicked protégé of failed Republican leadership in Washington. If Trey Grayson can wrangle enough special interest money to overcome Rand Paul's formidable grassroots fundraising, voters will know who in Washington he is beholden to. Democrats will target this seat no matter who the Republican nominee is."

Haha love how they point out what is going on. They are exactly right about special interest money and being protege of our failed republican leaders, but wrong if they think they can beat our rand.

This is a strange calculus, but it's good for us now, and good for the Democrats long-term, probably. They obviously want a protracted, bitter Republican primary which leaves a wounded victor to face the Dem. They see our fierceness and decide to encourage it, since logically common sense calls us the under dog. Smart money obviously sees we're not the underdog. They're helping legitimize Rand, which is good for us now. We can worry about the Dem opponent later. This is intelligent of them and shows they've got some good people who know what's up. Plus, the Dems would obviously prefer an independent, intelligent Rand to a Republican party hack like Grayson. It's all very innnnnnteresting.

Well they know that Grey Trayson will run to the middle and make them fight for the middle too. Whereas Rand WON'T run to the middle which makes it easier for them (in their minds).
