"This political train-wreck Republicans face can largely be traced to Bush’s philosophical metamorphosis from a traditional, non-interventionist conservative to the neoconservatives’ exemplar of a 'War President', and his positioning of the Republicans as the 'War Party'."

Nicholas Sanchez on Bush's legacy, September 30, 2007.

Fenty lost, and with him will likely go one of the biggest proponents of serious and drastic education reform, Michelle Rhee. The results of her experiments in DC may have ushered in an incredible sweep of educational reforms throughout the country and pushed back the tyranny of teachers' unions.

We made a big mistake in not following this primary.

Rhee made a big mistake in calling the primary results "devastating." It was probably very unlikely she would have been allowed to keep her position under Gray given the extent teachers' unions funded Fenty's opponent, but now it's nearing implausible.

This may set back progress in serious educational reform for decades more.
