    secure chat

i have been working on a secure chat client, available at http://www.ronpaulchat.info
it is just for alpha testing if anyone is interested. the purpose is to provide a private channel for chatting. all messages are two-way encrypted, and there is no central login or server. your private key is securely stored on your local disk, and all encryption is done on your pc.

Rightful liberty is unobstructed action according to our will within limits drawn around us by the equal rights of others. I do not add 'within the limits of the law' because law is often but the tyrant's will, and always so when it violates the rights of the individual. - Thomas Jefferson
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

What kind of encryption does it use? Is this an open source implementation or did you create it yourself?

    Cool.

Without the "central" server, how can we gain a mass of chatting buddies?

I have to invite people with Email? Email isn't secure.

    > What kind of encryption does it use?
It uses http://www.bouncycastle.org/ which is open source. i will make my chat open source....when i clean it up....
is uses pgp style public key/private key encryption. and for chat sessions or sending files, it uses diffie-hellman to setup a session.

    > Without the "central" server, how can we gain a mass of chatting buddies?
it is not really designed yet for easily chatting with a group....it is more if you are interested with setting up a secure 1-1 conversation. it would probably be useful if you are concerned about evesdropping, or if you are in china or iran...

    > have to invite people with Email?
you can use email to send an invitation. right...email is not secure...but this is just for the public key exchange. these keys are safe to be public, and are usually emailed or even just provided on websites. but i also password encrypt the invitation, just to hide the contents of the message anyway.
