GOP fundraiser Cathy Bailey, who last month began laying groundwork for her own
Senate campaign, recently told the Lexington Herald-Leader that a candidate’s exploratory committee should raise at least $500,000 in its first quarter of activity. Bailey has not yet established an official fundraising committee with the FEC.
Republican Rand Paul, a Bowling Green ophthalmologist, established a Senate exploratory committee of his own on May 19.
All three are in the wings, preparing for a possible run for the seat now held by U.S. Sen. Jim Bunning. Bunning has said he will run for re-election, but national Republicans have indicated he’s not strong enough politically to win.
