Default How will we get people to believe in capitalism again?

People seem to have some sort of false idea that we've been running a free, unregulated market for many years now, when we very obviously haven't. And now, because Republicans are so associated with capitalism, the whole idea has been run into the ground, since to many, "Republicans = free market, republicans = reason for economic troubles, therefore free market =reason for economic troubles".

Sort of funny, considering the cause of this economic downturn and every other one has been due to congress and president for passing these stupid spending bills, and the fed for printing it all.

You can't be so uncivil or so condescending to people when you want to educate them. Otherwise, you just push them farther away.

When talking about economics, i usually say something like this when debating liberals.

"If you lost your job, and were in debt, would it make sense to go out and max out all of your credit cards, in the hopes that you'll get a return on some of your investments?"

When you use that kind of logic, it's hard for people to challenge it. In my experience the absolute best way to convert people is to ask them the most basic of questions, which will eventually bring them around to common sense.

By letting the current governmental system we have continue to grow until it develops into complete fascism and everybody gets their wish of central planning.

Once the World's nest of price determination known as our free market has been completely blown up by government intervention in all facets of the economy, the entire production structure will collapse due to a loss of proper investment.

We'll see the government forcing more and more money and regulations and taxes and militarization onto the people, spreading further throughout the system (Now not only giving the car companies, but their suppliers bailouts - just as expected in a Middle-of-the-road system giving way to a centrally planned, fascist system). The financial troubles will get worse before enough people see who is at fault to demand a real, "revolutionary", change.

We have to lead, and make sure we don't end in another dark age - the ultimate in central planning created bubbles bursting and the capital structure collapsing because the people let the government (or, somewhat equivalently, the church) run everything, and they eventually fail.

We need to privatize risk - and the general population won't be happy with that until they've nothing left to lose.
