Since 2009 is the 200th birthday of Kentucky’s native son, Abraham Lincoln, many events are planned to celebrate his legacy.
The Lincoln Day Dinner will be held here in Logan County on Saturday, Feb. 28 at 6 p.m. at the Sportsman Clubhouse at the City/County Park and will feature Dr. Rand Paul, ophthalmologist from Bowling Green and son-in-law of Logan Countians Mr. and Mrs. Hilton Ashby, as one of the guest speakers. Dr. Paul has headed the Kentucky Taxpayers United group for the last 15 years. Because he believes in the philosophy that “government is best that governs least,” he has pursued legislators to sign the Taxpayer Pledge not to raise taxes.
The Logan County High School Color Guard will also be featured at this significant celebration.
The evening will include a full-course dinner along with other entertainment by local people. Tickets are $12.50 per person (children under 12 accompanied by adults are free) and can be purchased by calling any of the following numbers: 726-3801, 726-3787, 726-7616 or 726-4125.
This festive observance is open to the general public who take pride in commemorating the 200th birthday of our native Kentuckian and first Republican elected to the presidency of the United States of America who was instrumental in issuing the Emancipation Proclamation.
Each year the Logan County Republican Party has sponsored a Lincoln Day Dinner, and this year they are excited to promote this event since so many people throughout the nation, and especially Kentucky, are recognizing this particular 200th birthday.
I'll see if I can record it somehow!
