Dennis Ross - Running for Putnam's Seat in Florida

I have had the honor of speaking to and knowing Dennis Ross. This guy is great. I believe that he will be a great ally of Dr. Paul in the House of Representatives.

People in Florida will remember that he stood up to the governor about the citizens insurance issue. This guy is definitely in the same mindset as Dr. Paul. I had a chance to ask him about

Q: Auditing the Federal Reserve? A:"I am in favor of auditing the entire federal government! In the case of the Federal Reserve as an institution, I am in agreement, for the most part, with that great conservative economist Milton Friedman. There is no doubt that the Federal Reserve's actions today, in relation to bailouts and stimulus packages, requires transparency at the least and we aren't getting it. The actions of the Reserve today could very well be the catalyst for change when I get to Washington."

Q:Limited Government? A: I firmly believe that the government that governs least, governs best. The federal government has encroached onto far too many aspects of our daily lives, in direct opposition to the spirit and the letter of the 10th Amendment.

LAKELAND | Dennis Ross kicked off his 2010 campaign for the 12th Congressional District with a little help from his friends, the Republican national committeeman for Florida, Polk County state committee woman and a letter of endorsement from former Gov. Jeb Bush.

Ross, a Lakeland lawyer, served in the Florida House from 2002 until November 2008, when term limits prevented him from running again. He made his announcement today near the “Tribute to the Spirit of Volunteerism” sculpture at Lake Mirror in downtown Lakeland.

“We start our campaign under the statue of volunteerism, which is about serving others and about putting principles above ego,” Ross said. “Politicians like to say their election is about public service, but it has to be about standing up for what is right, regardless of the consequences.”

While in the Florida House, Ross was noted for opposing Gov. Charlie Crist’s hurricane insurance program and lost his legislative committee chairmanship because of it.

Ross was accompanied during his announcement by a variety of notables, including Andy Ireland, a former congressman from Winter Haven; Paul Senft, Republican national committeeman; Linda Ivell, Polk County state committeewoman and GOP convention delegate; and Lynne Breidenbach, executive director of the Taxpayers League of Polk County.

And his endorsements included one, in the form of a letter, from former Gov. Jeb Bush, praising Ross for his integrity and ability as a legislator.

Ross, 49, is the only candidate so far to open a campaign for the congressional seat currently held by U.S. Rep. Adam Putnam, R-Bartow, who is not running for re-election next year because he is seeking the post of Florida commissioner of agriculture.

Fellow Republican and close political ally, state Sen. Paula Dockery, has said she will make a decision on running for the seat in May after the 2009 session of the Florida Legislature ends.

On the Democratic Party side, retired Navy Master Chief Doug Tudor, who ran unsuccessfully against Putnam last year, said he is planning another run. Former Democratic state Sen. Rick Dantzler of Winter Haven said he is studying a possible run.

Members of the U.S. House of Representatives serve terms of two years and receive a salary of $169,300.

Jeb, Mack, Feeney and more for Dennis Ross

Republican Dennis Ross -- one of the few Republican legislators to challenge Charlie Crist's approach to property insurance -- formally kicked off his campaign for Adam Putnam's congressional seat today and rolled out a bunch of endorsements: former congressman Andy Ireland; Tom Feeney; Allan Bense; U.S. Reps. Connie Mack, Ginny Brown-Waite, Gus Bilirakis and Jeff Miller; Republican national committeeman Paul Senft; Polk GOP activist Jean Burt; Polk GOP chairman Gene Roberts; the Rev. Lynne Breidenbach; and Linda Ivell, president of the Florida Federated Republican Women. The biggest name? Jeb Bush, who said in a statement:

“I am pleased to endorse my friend, Dennis Ross, for Congress. In a time when far too many politicians go along to get along, Dennis is not afraid to take a stand or make tough decisions, regardless of the consequences. Dennis will remain true to our conservative principles in Washington, just as he has in Tallahassee. His record as a reformer is needed now more than ever. I encourage all of the voters of District 12 -– Republican, Democrat, or Independent -– to send Dennis to Congress.”

FL-12: Could the Dems Pick Up A GOP Open Seat? New Poll Says Yes
It is an internal poll (so, as always, apply as much salt as you deem necessary), but there are new numbers out of Central Florida's 12th Congressional District which imply that Democrats could have a fighting chance to pick up the seat held for most of the last decade by GOP Congressman Adam Putnam.
The poll, conducted by Greenberg Quinlan Rosner, claims a lead of four points for Democrat Lori Edwards in her challenge against Republican state legislator Dennis Ross. Putnam is leaving Congress at the age of 35 in order to pursue a race to be Florida's next state Agriculture Commissioner.

To make it even more of a joke, Edwards is also trying to say that 88% of the district knows them both enough to pick who they would vote for on the first question. No poll with two people who have never run in Hillsborough County, let alone are totally known in Polk County, would ever get 90% name ID.

I did some checking and their fundraising reports pretty much say it all. Ross has a ton of local donors and Edwards has almost none. We all know that, even in Socialist Obama's America, people still vote with their wallets first.

We all know Dennis is a friend. No one is perfect, but anyone who is elected and stands up to everyone, Republican or Dem, to stand for the free market, like Dennis did, gets my vote.

No one comes close.

What about this Doug Tudor fellow? Apparently he ran pretty strong in the district without Democratic Party support in 2008 against Putnam. Could he have a shot in the primary/general. He's with their progressive faction.

Endorsements from Eric Cantor and Jeb Bush worry me. Also, check out his issue page. Are we positive that this guy is an ally?

Yes, Dennis is a strong ally. As I said, anyone who stands against EVERYONE in Tallahassee and FOR the free market, has my vote. If you ask anyone in Lakeland, Dennis is a friend. What makes him even better is, he is 99% likely to win this race. We will finally have someone who will not vote for bailouts in Congress.

His issues page is fine. It is over a year away, there will be more I am sure.

And why would endorsements from Jeb and Cantor worry you? Why should he not get their endorsements? Jeb and Cantor are both good conservatives, maybe not as conservative as some of us would like but by golly they are about as good as we could ask for.

I, for one, would rather take a guy who is with me 90% of the time and who is electable, then the guy who is with me 100% of the time and can't ever win an election.

Dennis Ross is a friend. Dennis Ross is a patriot. Dennis Ross stood up against Charlie, Marco Rubio, and everyone else who socialized our property insurance market and put all the taxpayers over $10 billion in debt. If a guy like that isn't good enough for conservatives and libertarians, then we are all doomed to lose elections till infinity.
