This should be good. I got the story from an Iran-American and I never realized how great a role America played in it. There is no question that the US is largely responsible for the crappy gov the Iranians are stuck with right now.

Yes, the CIA really buggered things up, back in '53, when they engineered the overthrow of the democratically-elected Mosadegh. The entire Iranian "situation," as it has developed since '79, has been the predictable blowback pursuant to that original sin. If only they had left well-enough alone...

The Brits are responsible too, their companies were raping all the profits out of Iran's Petro Industry and when Mossadegh was gonna put an end to it the Brits ran to Eisenhower muttering something about Communist Iranians, after that it was game over.

Let's say that 20 million people live on some land, and the British come in and pay one person $20 million for the land, because that will allow them to live the rest of their life in luxury, then kick everybody else off. How does that single person have a right to all that land? It would never happen in a free country like the US. That doesn't seem right to me, and that is why Hugo Chavez and a lot of these "socialists" are actually sticking up for the individual rights and sovereignty of their country and their people.

I don't know how to deal with this sort of crap, I just know it's wrong. Global Corporations cause massive amounts of poverty when they kick large groups of indigenous people off of their lands and use the land to gather resources. Some free market people stick up for the corporations, because they bought it 'fair and square' through a contract. I say this is bull honkey because the person who signed away the land did not actually own it because they do not inhabit the land.

So all this wealth redistribution that Hugo Chavez does is really just giving the proceeds of the resources from the land that the people once inhabited back to them, because they were cheated out of their resource rich land.

Yeah, the Soviets would have loved that.

Could you tell me who elected Mossagedeh in the then Parliamentary Monarchy, and if it was within the said monarch's power to dismiss the PM?

I never thought I would see nationalization cheered so on a conservative forum.
