Dave Ryon for Congress - Columbus, Ohio - 15th District (Republican)

Dave Ryon will be running in the Republican Primary for Congress in the 15th District
    http://www.ohiofreedom.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2376

I would like to announce that I am going to run in the Republican Primary in 2010 for Representative to Congress in the 15th congressional district. Below is my contract with Ohio:

Back to our Roots Contract with Ohio.

I am David Ryon. I am a Republican Candidate for Representative in the 15th Congressional District. This is my initiative to bring the Republican Party back to its roots and my 15 point contract with the constituents of the 15th congressional district and Ohio. If you want a candidate to actively:

    1. Roll back spending in order to start paying off our $10+ Trillion dollar debt

    2. Repeal the 16th Amendment (Federal Income Tax)

    3. Balance our Budget by ending deficit spending with a Balanced Budget Amendment

    4. Right-size our federal government by getting rid of the Department of Energy, IRS, and Department of Homeland Security

    5. Create tax deductions for health care costs

    6. Create tax credits for education costs for those who attend public institutions, private institutions or home-schooled.

    7. Bring our troops home immediately

    8. Support a non-interventionist Foreign Policy

    9. Defend the lives of the unborn and abolish the federal death penalty

    10. Guard our 2nd Amendment rights from legislation that would diminish the ability to keep and bear arms

    11. Protect our national sovereignty by protecting our borders

    12. Vote against a National ID Card and the formation of a North American Union and strengthen individual States rights.

    13. Advocate the Republic that our Constitution created and not a Social-Welfare Empire

    14. Stop career politicians by supporting term limits in the form of a 12 year restriction. No person shall serve more than 12 years total between the House of Representatives, United States Senate, and/or President of the United States.

    15. The one addition to government I would support is the creation of the Department of Peace and Non-Violence as a cabinet-level department of the executive branch as proposed by our founding father Benjamin Rush.

This is my pledge and contract that I make with the people of the 15th congressional district and Ohio. I encourage you to support my candidacy with your vote in the Republican Primary in 2010.

    Sincerely,
    David Ryon
2010 Republican Candidate for Representative to Congress
    15th congressional district, Ohio

Best of luck to you. Two things I'd like to mention.

I don't care for #14. Term limits sound good, but I don't think it should be a federal decision. The Representatives and Senators represent the states and their people. It should be them who decides if term limits are appropriate and what those limits should be.

If you go ahead with #15 make sure you are crystal clear on the purpose of the department. As good as the Department of Non-Intervention sounds I wouldn't want billions going to a bunch of bureaucrats whose only job is to say, "it's not our problem."

    Ron Paul supports term limits

Paul votes for every term limitation measure
Says defeat of term limits does not negate need for cutting Congress' power, perks

    Three pieces of advice -

    1. Don't mention the John Birch thing in your campaign literature.

    2. Make a professional web site.

    3. Run to win, and consider before you make an action whether or not it helps you win or hurts your chances.

Ron Paul supports the border fence. I respectfully disagree with him on that issue as well.

I think we should have "de facto" term limits but not direct and defined term limits. I wouldn't want a good politician like Ron Paul or Jeff Flake forced out because of a term limitation. I think election (for a first term) should require a plurality, but being re-elected should require a super majority (say, at least 60% of the vote).

I like the super majority idea.

Your list is way to long. Pick three items and expand on them. You also need to know your audience. By having this list this large you are giving people something to act you on.

Thanks. I really think it should be harder but not impossible to become a "career politician" for those rare cases in which a Representative or Senator is actually good. Campaign finance reform is a red herring. If you want to reduce reelection you need to address the election process.

I also agree with wolvie. Keep your positions/principles clear and concise.

I read a few of his thoughts on the Campaign for Liberty. Any liberty minded person would have my vote. I am fortunate, to have a liberty minded politician representing my district.
