Ron Paul's Campaign Sold Our Email Addresses [Mod: Supposition at this point]

Have you been getting Conservative Action Alerts in your inbox? Have you been wondering how these people got your name? I can tell you. Ron Paul's 2008 campaign sold your email address, and I can prove it.

I have my own domain name. Any email sent to any address at that domain name gets re-routed to me. So what that means is that I can make up email addresses on the fly. I could tell someone that my email address was anything I wanted it to be, as long as it ends with my domain name, and if they send email to that address, I'll get it.

So, every time I sign up for an account on any web site, I always fill in the email address as <the website I'm signing up for>@<my domain name> So for instance when I signed up for ebay my address is ebay.com@<my domain name>. That way, whenever I get spam, I can figure out how the spammers got my email address. Any email addressed to ebay.com@<my domain name> must have originated from ebay.com.

Well all those Conservative Action Alerts we've been getting have been addressed to ronpaul2008.com@<my domain name>. They sold our addresses. I'm a bit disappointed, especially when I get Conservative Action Alerts instructing me to do something hateful and/or discriminatory towards homosexuals.

i just checked all my email accounts and the only odd one i get is rallyfortherepublic, which i don't know if i signed up for.

  4. #3
I have been getting those emails too. If they did indeed sell them, then I am damn upset about it. Was it Ron Paul's campaign directly or was it the CFL?

Umm, I'm pretty sure there was a privacy policy in place when we signed up, does anyone have a copy of that?

I just searched my spam folder and sure enough it's loaded with them. One from yesterday is advertising "Palin 2012" bumper stickers. Personally I'm fine with the promotion of REAL liberty causes and candidates but that's just disgusting.

It doesn't necessarily have to be the person who owned the domain, just the person who had access to the list. I think the OP did a pretty good job of backing up his claims, and some of the rest of us ARE getting this spam too.

Obviously you don't know Ron Paul, if he was going to sell his supporters out, he would have done it to get into the Republican Convention. Since you have no evidence that Ron Paul has done this, I woud put up or shut up. This is rumors that in the end does nothing but to get Ron Paul Supporters eye off the ball of Liberty and Fredom.

Fair enough. I sent something to C4L about it. Let's see what they can find out.

Stop $1.6 Billion AIG Fat Cat Bailout Bonus

Sign a Petition and Send Fax NOW! Tell an out of touch Congress to STOP using Bailout Funds for Corporate Executive Bonuses.

In October 2008 Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) told the White House that it must serve up support from Republican presidential nominee Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) if it hopes to ensure bipartisan backing for a massive economic bailout package by week's end.

Well, the Democrats got what they wanted, and we left the corrupt foxes that were guarding Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to guard and oversee a hen house with a $750 Billion Bailout nest egg. Now a fox is a fox, and if it looks like a fox, and if it smells like fox, it is a fox, even as they run around like chicken little saying that the financial sky is falling.

AIG Exec’s Out-fox the Inept Foxes in Congress and the White House.

AIG is offering huge so-called “retention bonuses” to top executives to stay with the company, claiming that they had stopped their year end bonus plan, instead just renaming it The AIG executive foxes are really just rats leaving a sinking ship--twelve have already left. They will take the money and run anyway, leaving AIG and we taxpayers with a disaster, and with no way to make payments on the bailout loan as promised. Certainly, the executives in the automotive industry are next.

AIG To Pay Top Executives an Extra Year’s Salary if They Stay on with the Company till November 2009.

All of this has been enabled by a government that has been interfering with the free market. Congress did so well, it gave itself a raise of more than $2.5 million while presiding over the crisis they created. We need to save the taxpayer’s bailout money and let AIG and others work for their free market bonus before they are paid it. If the company fails, it fails, and there are successful companies that will take over. The executives do not seem to be worried--they will just go to another insurance fox house and probably get a signing bonus.

Surely, the $35,560,414 that Martin J. Sullivan, President and Chief Executive Officer of AIG, has been paid over the past 2 years is more than enough to live on while he fixes his company. After all, he must have the necessary skills to do the job--just look at what he is being paid. He must be an insurance genius, but he and the rest of the AIG executives want more money up front to fix the problems they created. Enough is enough: do the job you were already paid for.

You and I would have been fired long ago. Many of you or your friend’s friends and relatives have already been fired or laid off so that these same executives can get that bonus. Genius, sheer genius--they are defrauding the nation and taking advantage of hard working Americans and their families

Congressman Barney Frank and the rest of the elites in Congress must think that we Americans are really naive, stupid, or just plain dumb. If we let them get away with raising taxes and giving these executive thieves unearned tax dollars, maybe we are.

Let the Free market work. Let the executives manage their business or go out of business and let another company take its place. America has over 200 years of bankruptcy law that should be governing these transactions. If managers who accumulated too much risk by not adequately qualifying lenders are allowed to continue in their jobs, we are punishing the intelligent managers who accepted lower returns for more prudent lending practices. The shareholders and management at imprudent firms should not be rewarded. This allows new managers and companies to fill the void. This type of restructuring always strengthens the economy in the long run.

    Critics of Payments

Some lawmakers including U.S. Representative Elijah Cummings, a Democrat from Maryland, have criticized the retention pay, saying that AIG has underreported the number of people who are getting the payments, and that it’s unnecessary to give so much cash when job markets are weak. U.S. finance companies announced 220,506 job cuts last year through November, placement firm Challenger Grey & Christmas Inc., said in a December 3 report.

    U. S. Assistant Treasury Secretary Neel Kashkari, who supervises the U.S. financial rescue program, has called some of AIG’s payments to workers “excessive for a failing institution.”

Barack Obama is going to go along with Reid and the Democrats. After all, financial institutions have given more donations to Obama that anyone else, except for U. S. Senator Dodd (CT).

We need your help more than ever, because Barack Obama will likely spend more billions of dollars to, directly or indirectly, nationalize American industries, one by one.

Yes, I did, Angela. I guess I'm wanting more. I sent an email to C4L and for me, I'd like to wait to carry out the execution until we find out what they have to say.

I will be none to happy IF they sold our emails either. At this point, I don't know that they did, however.

I am just cynical. I knew they would, so I didn't bother with the domain name. I used a yahoo.com address.

Hmmm.. I am getting those sent to my spam box.. but I have no reason to think it was the campaign.

Well then we all should have receive the same thing. I can tell you I did not. The way the mass email system works if someone bought it would be to send it to everyone, not just select ones. Maybe you are on some other posting network and they sold it. I am sorry I think you are just assuming and you know what they say when you assume.

I see no smoking gun here and even if that was the case, delete the freakin message, doesn't mean you have to reply or get involved. I think this is an entire waste of time, discussion.

Sorry, My take on the situation, we have bigger fish to fry.

I got email from the PCC at two different email addresses. I'm not sure why but I get Conservative Action Alerts at one of them and not the other.

  26. #23
I'm afraid the OP was correct. Whether they were "sold" or not may be in question, but there is no doubt that the email addresses of those who registered with the Ron Paul 2008 website have been provided to these groups: "Conservative Action Alerts", "Right March", and the "Ludwig von Mises Institute". Like the OP, when I donated to the RP campaign I provided a unique email address (ronpaul2008@ - My Domain - .com) that was only used for registering with that site (I do this commonly to track sources of spam). The image of my inbox (below) shows the 20 or so emails I've received from the three groups listed above in the last month. I am still an RP supporter, but I would like to see an explanation from the campaign. Of course, if "Right March" paid money for my email address then the joke is on them,'cuz there's about zero chance I'll ever want to put a "Palin 2012" sticker on my car.

Then your eyes are closed. If the OP used an email address at one site, and one site only, and that email address is now being used by several sites, it indicates a couple possibilities.

    1. Somebody fished the ISP. If that were true, the poster would likely be getting more offers for viagra than solicitations for liberty.

    2. A campaign worker stole the emails and sold them.

    3. The campaign sold them. I heard through the grapevine that the Campaign To Reelect.... now owns them.

I am getting them too. Maybe only people who donated are getting solicited?

the other thing is... people can hack into data-bases...

In the box I used for signing up at the campaign, I have about 15-20 spam messages from CAA starting in november, and a few from RightMarch.
