I know some folks that would call that a vicious animal.
    Not me,,but some.

    looks like a sweetheart.
Liberty is lost through complacency and a subservient mindset. When we accept or even welcome automobile checkpoints, random searches, mandatory identification cards, and paramilitary police in our streets, we have lost a vital part of our American heritage. America was born of protest, revolution, and mistrust of government. Subservient societies neither maintain nor deserve freedom for long.

LoL - NH in the winter brother.

    Dress warm...

He can stay indoors for about 30 minutes before whining and panting, he overheats so quickly.

He has a coat that, literally, will fill three garbage bags when he sheds out in the spring.

But you're right, and there's a new camera in the house, I'll get some more and put 'em up.

Jefferson dog went to doggy heaven this morning.

    Died quietly in his sleep.

Poor guy, just tired out and left.

Buried him by the grape trellace and apple trees that dropped green apples he used to like to munch on.

Sorry to hear that. Our dog is going on 15 yrs, is half blind and half deaf now. The bitch still jumps our 6ft fence when she wants though, despite having torn her doggie equivalent of her ACL a couple years back. I told her just the other day that she has to make it through winter because I don't feel like digging a hole in the ground while its frozen. Its gonna be tough on the kid when she goes; he refuses to go to bed until she joins him in his room to watch over him while he sleeps.

Inscription on the Monument to a Newfoundland Dog

    By Lord Byron

    Near this Spot
are deposited the Remains of one
    who possessed Beauty without Vanity,
    Strength without Insolence,
    Courage without Ferocity,
and all the virtues of Man without his Vices.

This praise, which would be unmeaning Flattery
    if inscribed over human Ashes,
is but a just tribute to the Memory of
    Boatswain, Jefferson, a Dog
who was born in Newfoundland Iowa 20 March 2008
and died in Newstead New Hampshire 18 Sept 2019

When some proud Son of Man returns to Earth,
Unknown to Glory, but upheld by Birth,
The sculptor’s art exhausts the pomp of woe,
And storied urns record who rests below.
When all is done, upon the Tomb is seen,
Not what he was, but what he should have been.

But the poor Dog, in life the firmest friend,
The first to welcome, foremost to defend,
Whose honest heart is still his Master’s own,
Who labours, fights, lives, breathes for him alone,
Unhonoured falls, unnoticed all his worth,
Denied in heaven the Soul he held on earth –
While man, vain insect! hopes to be forgiven,
And claims himself a sole exclusive heaven.

Oh man! thou feeble tenant of an hour,
Debased by slavery, or corrupt by power –
Who knows thee well, must quit thee with disgust,
    Degraded mass of animated dust!
Thy love is lust, thy friendship all a cheat,
Thy tongue hypocrisy, thy heart deceit!
By nature vile, ennobled but by name,
Each kindred brute might bid thee blush for shame.

Ye, who behold perchance this simple urn,
Pass on – it honours none you wish to mourn.
    To mark a friend’s remains these stones arise;
I never knew but one -- and here he lies.

It’s never easy... had to let go our elder cat of 19 years of companionship... they are family, these creatures with whom we form a bond.

The Newf's life span is only 8-10 years on average, so he beat the odds, and he wasn't in pain or euthanized.

I do miss the big goof though...wish I could have scritched behind his ears one last time.
