Paul, Ventura, Thompson, Barrett: Third Party Coalition?

"He added prominent third-party individuals like Jesse Ventura, Ed Thompson, Ron Paul and himself are considering forming a new moderate Libertarian party that better represents their political ideologies."

Libertarians Again Top 1,000,000 Votes for U.S. House

November 5th, 2008 The Libertarian Party candidates for U.S. House will have polled over 1,000,000 votes, as soon as all the votes are counted. Preliminary figures are at 990,000, and perhaps 8% of all the votes (mostly absentees and provisionals) have not yet been counted.

The Libertarian Party also exceeded 1,000,000 for U.S. House in 2000, 2002, and 2004. It is the only minor party that has polled as many as 1,000,000 votes for U.S. House since 1914, when the Progressive Party polled 1,117,939 votes. Thanks to Greg Kaza for the 2008 calculation.

    "moderate" libertarian party?

The problem with the LP right now is the damn "moderates"! I want to bring the non-violence pledge back.

I think in this case they may be refering to moderate in the sense of marketing themselves as more transitional than the current libertarian party. And helping unify the constitutional and libertarian voters, and the perot voters who cared about the national dept and ballancing budgets. I've always thought the libertarian party was great, but they can't market themselves well and do often advertise their positions in such a way that shock people and seem unrealistic, until people take the time to read into them... and the problem with this election is most people who voted have little idea what their canidate, (especially obama voters) stands for. So becoming better marketers is essential to get the "idiot" vote.

    Good point.

He also means being centrist; balancing left & right issues so as to appeal to the entire political spectrum.

As long as you can do this without compromising the message or providing a weakly defensible, hypocritical position... go for it.
