McCain's SS Storm Troopers in action

Read this article on from a Boston Globe blog and get mad

ST. PAUL -- Security officials, under the direction of South Carolina Attorney General Henry McMaster, the convention's sergeant-at-arms and its self-described top law-enforcement officer, seized a pro-Ron Paul sign from a Massachusetts alternate delegate during tonight's proceedings.

Francie Steffian, elected on Mitt Romney's slate, said she was given a handwritten sign that read "Keeping America Safe" when she entered the hall. She crossed out the slogan, associated with John McCain's campaign, and on the back wrote "Ron Paul Revolution." Shortly after displaying the sign, two men wearing McCain baseball caps and earpieces rushed to her section and demanded it from her.

"I just wrote my opinion on it, and they took it," said Steffian, of Ashby. "I didn't agree with it, so I wrote what I believe. I don't feel he's keeping America safe."

The two men were met in the seating area by McMaster, who folded up the sign, placed it under his arm and said, "Good job."

One of the men surveyed the scene and spoke into his wrist. "Please be advised that we have confiscated a Ron Paul sign in 124," he said.

Don't sit and take it ! WALK OUT ON MCCAIN!

Ooohhh oooohhhh. I've got the woman being escorted out on my DVR. Working on YouTube now. She waves the peace sign with her fingers. What terrorist, holding a sign and waving a peace sign. Can't have that in NWO.
Cheers,
mark...

I saw that, too. CSPAN showed it for about half a second. The girl was being escorted out by men in suits and waving a peace sign. I was hoping to find the story behind it here today...

I saw this on CSPAN too. I was trying to find it on you tube today. Has it been posted there?

I heard on the Laura Ingrahm Show (I know, I dont know why I was listening to her) that apparently that woman was a 'bundler' (whatever that means) for Obama. She mentioned that she was a huge fundraiser for his campaign and she was trying to get on stage during Palin's speech. Secret service stopped her and escorted her out.

I was there when they took Francie's sign. That was typical of the kind of thuggery we witnessed.

This reminds me of the struggle within our own organization between those individuals who choose to talk about divergent ideas, like alternate theories of 9/11, and those people who advocate presenting a more "mainstream" image of pro-liberty, pro-constitutional reform.

Apparently, in the GOP, they had the same kind of struggle, and in their case it was the advocates of the unified image concept for the party that have crushed all opposition and now rule as tyrants of what is acceptable GOP expression.

I think Ron Paul fans generally will view these controlling actions by the GOP in their convention unfavorably. But if you think about it, the Ron Paul republicans at the GOP convention, with their divergent peace signs and whatnot, are remarkably similar to the 9/11 truth activists at the Rally for the Republic who may chant slogans that are somewhat tangential to the goals of the CFL.

The similarity is that in both cases there is a larger organization with some fraction of it's members that express divergent views, and the interesting question is how these different organizations deal with these challenges to group orthodoxy.

The GOP appears to have concluded that heretics in their party will not be tolerated at all. And they enforce their top-down control and group orthodoxy with an iron hand. The CFL clearly hasn't adopted the iron hand approach, but there seems to be an ongoing debate within the Paul supporter community about the best way to move forward and live with the presence of *fill_in_the_blank*.

I find myself a bit conflicted when thinking about this comparison. I find the GOP tactics to be offensive, but I also recognize that the GOP has a very long succesful history of playing politics in America. I can't help but wonder if maybe their strategy of forced orthodoxy and sticking to the approved "talking points", while offensive, may be the more effective technique for political party organization.

A hierarchical organization of humans with strict rules and rigid control can be a powerful entity. This is the organizing principle that works for the military and the GOP. On the other hand, a more diffuse organization with less top down control might not be as effective at reaching goals as the rigid hierarchy, but it might be more resilient and in the long run more powerful, but in a different way. Each organizing model has strengths and weaknesses, and I think it's worthwhile for all of us liberty dorks to think about these things and how this knowledge can be used for helping us reach our political reform goals.

War is Peace.
"Gentlemen, I have had men watching you for a long time and I am convinced that you have used the funds of the bank to speculate in the breadstuffs of the country. When you won, you divided the profits amongst you, and when you lost, you charged it to the bank...You are a den of vipers and thieves. I intend to rout you out, and by the grace of the Eternal God, will rout you out."- Andrew Jackson (The Guy on the 20)
