Default Social Conservativism is a Myth.

I have heard the term "social conservative" all my life..

and it really makes no sense to me at all.

Social Conservatism seems to me as being intolerant but taking it one or two steps further than that.. social conservatism is simply telling other people what to do and how to act.. varying in the multiple levels from asshole to Nazi, social conservatism is a disease. I still don't understand why there should ever be "social policy" to dictate.

this does not seem Republican, American, or Constitutional.

Rightful liberty is unobstructed action according to our will within limits drawn around us by the equal rights of others. I do not add 'within the limits of the law' because law is often but the tyrant's will, and always so when it violates the rights of the individual. - Thomas Jefferson
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

"Conservative social policy promotes a wholesome environment for children to go up as safe as possible," proponents say.
It doesn't end with this election cycle. Commit to long term change, and you won't see all the GOP state convention shenanigans as the end of the Ron Paul Revolution--but as the end of the neocon control of the GOP, (and the beginning of the Ron Paul Revolution). Hang in there for another year or so, and you'll start to see some absolutely amazing results for all of our efforts. ~Ninja Homer

    Kotin,

I agree with you. There is no such thing as social conservatism. They started coming up with all these weird subdivisions of conservatives when neocons came on the scene, from what I can tell. Conservatism means you believe in a small limited constitutional government. If you stray from that, you are not a conservative.
"We do have some differences and our approaches will be different, but that makes him his own person. I mean why should he [Rand] be a clone and do everything and think just exactly as I have. I think it's an opportunity to be independent minded. We are about 99% the same on issues." "People Try To Drive Wedges Between Rand And Me." --Ron Paul
