    Default Living Aboard

Not sure if this has been brought up here or not, but my fiance and I have worked out a pretty freedom oriented life by living on a boat. We have a 35 foot sailboat docked in Boston harbor. We have a small solar panel (trying to afford more and a wind generator) but our house bank of batteries will last us a good long while and we have a backup generator, water tanks, spare holds with a good amount of emergency/cruising food, an ice box built into the counter etc etc... all pretty common things on a sailboat. It is a fun life, it is relatively off the grid, and can be completely off-grid if we find the time from work and school to sail away for x number of months.

We have a blog at www.thefitzcarraldo.blogspot.com for those who are interested

and the forums at www.livingaboard.com are quite helpful.

    rock on.

We've been exploring this lifestyle from our armchairs for some time now. We're seriously landlocked at the moment. But we've been interested enough to take sailing classes at the nearest lake of any size and extensively read the work of the frugal, shoestring voyagers like Annie Hill and the Pardeys. We currently live off-grid on a rural homestead but are working hard to simplify and extricate ourselves from the land based life.

Great to read about your experiences, boethius27. Always looking to learn from them that's doin'.
