Exclamation Iran blames West for 'artificially' raising oil prices

    http://www.blacklistednews.com/news-371-0-13-13--.html

Ahmadinejad blamed the U.S. and Europe for record-high oil prices. He said the global production of oil is much more than consumption, suggesting that politics rather than economics were behind today's record-high prices of more than US$140 a barrel.

Ahmadinejad said the high oil prices are the result of a weak dollar and a deliberate decision by the United States and some European countries to profit from high fuel taxes. In some European countries, 70 percent of the fuel cost goes to governments as tax, he said.

"So it is very clear and obvious that the market does not have a role in raising prices. There are some others that are determining the oil price for the benefit of the few, very rich people of the world," said Ahmadinejad, whose country is the second biggest producer in the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries.

Higher taxes on oil in the US or any other country increases the domestic price of oil products like gasoline. It does not effect the global price of oil except in a negative way- higher taxes on something tends to decrease consumption and thus demand for it which could lead to lower and not higher prices globally. His country benefits from the higher global price for oil since they are a net exporter (although their production is getting closer to their demand which is why they want a nuclear reactor to produce domestic electricity to free up more oil for export and delay the day they become a net importer like we are. Some estimate that could happen in the next five to ten years).

does anyone here find it very odd and ironic that these oil guys are now out right saying that oil shouldnt cost as much as it does? when has any company ever complained about making profit? NEVER! I hope this shows everyone how its them telling the truth this time and NOT our government. Our own "enemy" is telling in public that oil is artificially high. Im sorry, but i respect the guy for that. Screw Bush and Cheney!!

Wonderful. I guess we can expect even stronger denials of that now. While it's not everything, it's certainly a factor, deniable only by liars and idiots.
