Default "France shifts its stance on the conflict in Iraq" -- in International Herald Tribune

"PARIS: After years of shunning involvement in a war it said was wrong, France now believes it may hold the key to peace in Iraq, proposing itself as an "honest broker" between the Sunni, Shiite and Kurdish factions.

The shift was one of the most concrete consequences yet of the thaw in French-American relations following the election in May of President Nicolas Sarkozy, whose administration no longer feels bound by the adamant refusal to take a role in Iraq that characterized the reign of his predecessor, Jacques Chirac."

    Surprise, surprise!

France elects a neocon and suddenly they want to play in the sandbox.

The French don't know how to handle their own internal issues with Muslims/Arabs. They're not gonna accomplish much anywhere else. (Hmmm.....sounds like another country I know that needs to "remove the plank from its own eye" before attacking the mote in anyone else's.)

On the issue of Sarkozy--you gotta admit he's better than Segolene Royal, don't you?

    I suppose...

...the same way that Mitt Romney is better than Hillary Clinton.

In the same way that Hitler was better than Stalin for killing only 6 million people compared to Stalin killing 40 million.

Big meeting with Bush recently - going to speculate that there was a lot of "ok you can have some oil" talk going on.

I saw Dominique De Villepin, French PM, speak to Harvard on television one time, and I said, "Wow, this guy is absolutely right," when he spoke about peace and the world, etc. I was like, "if this is the reason France is not involved in Iraq, God bless 'em."

Now Dominique and Chirac are out of the picture. Haha. This news is not surprising.

Who will be next to join the band wagon in persecuting the Arabs? This is disgusting. Stop the genocide and get out the Middle East!
