Arrow GOP cracks down on Ron Paul activists

Within minutes, amid a mix of cheers and protests, district GOP leaders disqualified almost half of the convention delegates or alternates — most of them suspected supporters of the Texas congressman's presidential bid.

    [...]

At issue were Paul supporters "who came in here and don't want to support John McCain at the presidential convention," Magee said. "These are not Republicans, in my opinion."

    [...]

Instead, on the orders of convention leaders, angry Paul allies and the copier were escorted out of the cafeteria shortly after the meeting began.

I would respectfully request that you not do that.

Apply Ron's non-interventionist foreign policy here. If you don't live in Missouri and don't have a long-term stake in the fight here, mind the messes in your own backyard, and don't get in the middle of our battles as you could inadvertantly hurt our efforts here.

If you don't live in Missouri and we need your help, we'll let you know.

Everyone please help MO out here by following Debbies RQ not to derail their efforts, while I am sure most here would be polite and eloquent, the trolls could have a field day.

    Thanks
Don't let others get you down. Not naysayers, not pretenders, not appeasers, not opportunists; none of em.

At what point do people start filing civil lawsuits over the conduct of the GOP? Once they have silenced, ignored, or slandered everyone? Wouldn't that be too late?

Seems to be the conundrum we face. Is there actually anything we can do on legal grounds? Just from a cursory look, I imagine it's not easy because the GOP is a private organization.

It's time we turn up the heat and begin gathering signatures on ballot access petitions just in case. You know we want someone decent to vote for in November one way or the other--and we aren't the only ones! Numbers talk and McCain voters balk--and who can blame them? Unless we hold this threat over them, I just don't know if we'll get these team players to listen to reason or listen to their consciences. If we're to speak softly, we need the big stick.

I agree wholeheartedly with this. Even Ron Paul just having potential ballot access in the so-called swings states should be enough to terrify the McCain supporters. We need something organized though, and fast. We should get these signatures going in the states that are the most reasonable to do so, and the swing states especially. Really, I think we would only need signatures for 30-40 states. If it really came down to it and Ron Paul wanted to continue running as something other than a Republican, he should be able to easily step in and take the ballot lines of the Libertarian and Constitution Parties.

Even if they have their own candidates by September, I think their probable nominees--Chuck Baldwin for the CP and Bob Barr for the LP--would be glad to step aside for Ron Paul.

The long and the short of it is, eight million voted for McCain and Giuliani combined and eleven million voted for the four candidates who attracted conservatives and had other things to say than war! war! war! So, they split the conservative votes and are now trying to say we're trying to disenfranchise people when all we're saying is that half again as many people voted against the McCain/Giuliani type ticket as for it--and this in spite of the fact that the liberal media declared McCain the winner halfway through the process.

Many, many Americans are feeling disenfranchised. If we can keep getting Dr. Paul on the tube talking about the economy for a couple more months, then get him on each state's ballot with our without the G.O.P., we have them over a barrel!

The numbers are on our side, and as the economy has worsened, they've quietly gotten better. Believe it.

    Ms. Hopper,

First thank you earlier for your correction of my citation. This is why I ended it with a question, in hopes someone could let me know whether or not I had the correct section of the Rules. I am still fuzzy as to what the "sanctions" are likely to be if a challenge is successful, but that's passing curiosity. I am glad you were around to shed light on the subject!

Second, regarding the quote above... I have a mixed reaction to it. There are several people who claim outside-their-state assistance as a calling. I hope they see this, and perhaps there could be some guidance as to what everyone else can do to assist. I do think that the more likely result is that the people on this board who get crimson in the face and yell "OMG sue them! Fill their emails! Call them constantly!" will help to bury your sage advice. I hope it's not a discouraging thing... many of us are, in fact, working locally even past our Conventions to get our own backyards in order.

I wish you luck in Missouri and in any other contests which see official assistance. I will also quietly add that the campaign's invisible hand has not often been felt. Please understand where the well-intentioned (and incredibly misguided, many times) knee-jerk efforts stem from. Thank you for your time

People still need to see what Debbie said, imo.

The other half of the answer is right in front of our noses...

Ron Paul's message is wonderful. We just need to find ways and vehicles to get that message out there. It can be done and needs to be done. WITH THE PUBLIC THEN ON OUR SIDE we may find the pond scumming GOP leadership sinking quickly to the bottom.

With the general public sleep'n.... the GOP boys with toys will get their way... everyday. In good news the Ron Paul booth in Columbia Missouri yesterday woke up a few dozen people. We didn't hand out fliers... we actually joined in political conversation. Matter of fact every politican running for local office was at Earth Day... and... they all spent a good bit of time at our booth. Must have done something right... sure did have a successful day.

Interesting. Is it not an RNC rule that when a districit is embroiled in a legal battle over delegates that is not resolved by the time of convention then those delegates are ineligible to vote at convention?

"Suspected of being Ron Paul supporters"!?!?

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.C. S. Lewis
