    Books for Liberty

"The man who does not read good books has no advantage over the man who can't read them." -Mark Twain

Read first: The purpose of this book list is to provide a starting point for anyone interested in liberty-oriented reading material as well as cultural education in general. In no way is this list meant to be complete, but rather constantly updated with new additions or corrections. As a courtesy, please be sure any book you include adds value to the topic at hand. On a further note, many entries will obviously fit into more than one category. That being said, all effort should be made to place each book into the most prominent section for which it belongs. All categories and titles should flow alphabetically for easier viewing. Finally, many of these books are available for free online and can also be found at your local public library. Enjoy!

Most of those are already on the list. The ones that aren't add them up!
I added the ones that weren't on the list, and someone removed them!!!!

    Did you do that?
    And if so, why???????????????????????????????????????????
They are all VERY good Books!

I didn't remove them. Which books were they? Also, you can check the history of the wiki at the bottom of the page. I guess we need to be on guard for someone trolling the list.

Ah ok cool, fair enough. Free versions available anywhere, or should I just turn all mine into them?

I was debating using Amazon links or free links. In order to get the wiki up as soon as possible, I went with Amazon links where available. Now that we can fine tune the list further, I think free links would be great. I guess if someone really wanted to buy a hard copy of the book they could always do their own search.

Yea true. Maybe... provide a free link as the main; but then have a '*' (With a hyperlink to the amazon bit..)

So people can see what is available for free.. but if they want, they can purchase it.

audio books etc. cld be included

I saw this book on the list.

The Forgotten Man: A New History of the Great Depression

    But I had a question.
On the back cover of that book, it says that the author is a member of the CFR!

Why is this book on the list?

I updated the disclaimer at the top letting people know that a lot of these books can be found online for free or at the library. I figured this would be more efficient than trying to find free links for each entry.

I made a Wikipedia page to [hopefully] facilitate better organization. It's barely been started so feel free to edit it yourself, you shouldn't even have to login. The sorting columns help me immensely when looking through a row of books (they're usually organized by author, not title). If you have suggestions use the discussion page.

Inclined to Liberty by Louis Carabini

Just finished it last night. It's a short book that is a hell of a resource for arguing those that advocate 'social planning'.

Only thing that is very noticeable (that may turn people off) but not too overbearing is his appearent dislike of religion. It's only seen in a couple of paragraphs in his comparison of Marxist promises of Utopia on Earth vs. religions' promises of heavenly Utopia but is easily overlooked by any open minded reader.

I'd definitely suggest this book as a primer for those looking into the liberty movement, and as an awesome tool for debunking many 'socialistic' fallacies that are touted as truthes.

    Oh, and it's only $8 at mises.org/store

Just added Against Intellectual Monopoly. As the title and content of the book would suggest, it's available for free download.

added "Freedom and Federalism" by Felix Morley, according to Mises.org's "Bibliography of Liberty" page: "[Freedom and Federalism is] An outstanding defense of states’ rights and interposition by a veteran journalist."

I'm half way through this book that was published in 1959 and I definitely recommend this book to anybody that's interested in making the Federal system work including how it was intended to help oppose Rousseau's idea of the "general will" which we are feeling the effects of now.

If you're interested here's a good write-up on Morley in the Journal of Libertarian Studies from a 1978 issue: http://mises.org/journals/jls/2_3/2_3_7.pdf

I'm curious as to why you put Homer's "Odyssey" in there.
