    Border Fence = Berlin Wall?

I don't think a fence is a good idea because it could keep people in just as good as it keep people out.

    Martial law. >_<;

    Your thoughts?

I'm cool with private land owners doing this however, no government!! >/

Improving the border fences should be the top priority for national security really, protecting the borders is a trillion times more important than *ID cards*. If a few thousand "Islamic extremists" really wanted to "wreak havoc" throughout mainland USA, they won't travel on airplanes (they cba waiting around at check-in for hours, etc.), they would just stroll in through mexico's border, what's to stop them - G W certainly doesn't give a crap. But if you're worried about being fenced in under martial law, fence or no fence won't matter, you'd be greeted by the Mexican authoritories welcoming committee, along the lines of "turn back or we open fire"

I think a physical fence is good where it is needed, but building a wall across the entire Southern border is crazy, crazy like building a highway through Texas..... hmmm where have I heard of that before....... Anyway what we need is more people there, not a bigger fence.

If we eliminated government, we wouldn't have these problems of "fencing ourselves in" or illegal immigration >.>

While I'm all for more border security, I don't think fences and walls are the best way to do it.

Active patrols and more border guards are far better methods than static defenses.

And it is very true that a fence to keep others out would also keep us in.

Each state secures its own borders

I think it should be the responsibility of the land owner for security.

It just bothers me having a congress who would pass laws like the "patriot act" fencing us in.

    Real minute men.

    No government big wigs!

    They want the NAU anyhow..

I think building a wall across the Mexican and Canadian borders is the only real tangible solution to illegal immigrants and terrorists entry into our country.

    The only solution.

Without secured borders, there are holes.

I'm not going to be running into Mexico or Canada anytime soon; if you are worried about being TRAPPED here, maybe should apply now for your new country of choice.

    Alaska.

I love America just as much as you do however, I just don't like the idea of a government controlled border.

    Minute men.

    Our government is too big.

I don't wanna live in Canada or Mexico. Bleh.

My concern is the border fence being controlled by a mad man.

I think abolishing the welfare state and monitoring the borders with the help of private sector volunteers is the way to go.

If we let the border fence be controlled by Washington it would serve special interest.

Border Fence is to keep people out.
Berlin Wall was to keep people in.

Amen. If we eliminate the welfare state then there wouldn't be anything to worry about from immigration. Everyone would pay their own way. And I personally think that having a border fence as a preventive measure against terrorists is a red herring. There are 12 million people here already, if a few dozen al qaeda want to get into the country then a fence isn't going to stop them. Besides, if Dr. P got elected, the terrorists would lose their major motivation to attack anyway. Just my opinion.

They said that the Berlin Wall was to keep all the evil western spies from infiltrating Eastern Germany.

It's original stated purpose was to keep people out.

The Berlin Wall divided a nation in two, with one half ruled by Soviet-style socialism and the other by European-style capitalism. The border fence would be to clearly demarcate the border between two very distinct countries in the middle of a desert so those seeking to ignore our sovereign right to uphold whatever standards of entry we desire are slowed down enough for our border agents to be able to handle them.

The fence goes on the SOUTHERN side of MEXICO

to protect the NAU(North American Union).

Why else would Kat Harris of Florida, yes the one who counted GW's votes over and over, sponsor a bill that had money for such in it?
    http://www.govtrack.us/congress/bill...bill=h109-2672

Border Security Between Mexico and Guatemala and Belize- The Secretary of State, in consultation with the Secretary of Homeland Security, the appropriate officials representing the Government of Mexico, appropriate officials representing the Government of Guatemala, and appropriate officials representing the Government of Belize shall establish a program to provide needed equipment, technical assistance, and vehicles to manage, regulate, and patrol the international border between Mexico and Guatemala and between Mexico and Belize.

We will not get any border protection between Mexico and the U.S. at this time.
Why do you think there is so much "foot dragging" about doing anything to help our southern border?

I don't make this stuff up and the tin foil hats are not here.

I think so. Repeal the war on drugs, repeal the welfare state, end birthright citizenship, then take whoever shows up. It worked for this country for the 150 years before the New Deal, it'd work now.

Berlin Wall = Keeping people in
Mexico-US border frence = keeping people out

So the analogy is off. Not sure it's the best use of money though, it seems an electronic one would be more effective.
