House likely to vote on Fast Track TPA bill -TODAY-

Very good chance TPA votes in the House will start TODAY. CONTACT YOUR REPS, PREFERABLY BY PHONE! Reports say TPTB are close to having enough votes to pass it and effectively end US sovereignty through a myriad of waiting treaties. Procedural votes have passed but been very close. Those last few votes could make a difference to the outcome. Gotta try at least.

Updated: 1:49 p.m. | House Republican leaders early Wednesday filed a package of trade bills with the Rules Committee, putting the gears in motion for the most anticipated floor showdowns of the legislative session so far.

Though nothing is set in stone, lawmakers who support Trade Promotion Authority are growing increasingly confident they have the votes to bring the measure to the floor on Friday.

Plans to vote Friday on Trade Promotion Authority and Trade Adjustment Assistance could still fall through, but the House is moving ahead on a multi-pronged strategy to send the measures to the president’s desk by the week’s end.

The House on Thursday voted 217-212 on the rule that sets up votes on a bill to give President Barack Obama latitude to negotiate a 12-nation Pacific trade deal and to fund programs to retrain U.S. workers displaced by trade agreements.

Caught a bit of CSPAN in the background. Did Rep. Earl Blumenauer get up and say that there were important provisions about Israel in ObamaTrade?

This is in the TPA bill:

Section 908: Sets out U.S. policy identifying the importance of the bilateral U.S.-Israel trade relationship. This section states that among the principal U.S. trade negotiating objectives for trade agreements with foreign countries are to discourage actions to boycott, divest from, or sanction Israel. The section requires the President to report annually to Congress on politically motivated acts of boycott against, divestment from, and sanctions against Israel.

Well, guess that answers the question. Nothing like a good old fashioned "free trade" bill.

Jeff Sessions once again rises to the occasion. He is probably the most vocal opponent to the globalists in the entire U.S. senate. I wish he was running for POTUS.

    http://www.breitbart.com/big-governm...sty-obamacare/

In a Ways and Means document on the new Pacific Union being formed by Obama, the Committee hints at some of this union’s powers: ‘if a proposed change to a trade agreement is contemplated [by the TPP Commission] that would require a change in U.S. law, all of TPA’s congressional notification, consultation, and transparency requirements would apply. In other words, Ways and Means is intimating that this new secret Pacific Union would function like a third house of Congress, with legislative primacy, sending changes to the House and Senate under fast-track procedures (receiving less legislative procedure than, for instance, Post Office reform).

Moreover, this legislative fast-track, Ways and Means implies, is limited to that which requires a ‘change in U.S. law’—meaning if this President (or the next) argues it is simply an executive action, not a legal action, the Executive could have a free hand to implement the Commission’s decrees without Congress. This is not merely a loophole; this is purposeful delegation of congressional authority to the Executive and to an international body. The fast-tracked implementing legislation would have the ability to make these delegations binding as a matter of law.

Paul Ryan is going full bore. Wow! What a scary MFer!

    http://waysandmeans.house.gov/ryan-f...-drivers-seat/

Mr. Speaker, the question before us today is pretty simple. Is America going to shape the global economy? Or is it going to shape us?

“Mr. Speaker, 95 percent of the world’s consumers—they don’t live in the United States. They live in other countries. So if we want to create jobs in America, we need to make more things here and sell them over there.

“In fact, one out of every five American jobs already depends on trade. And that’s a good thing. Because they pay more—18 percent more on average. But while the world has been moving full steam ahead, we’ve been standing still.

“We haven’t completed a trade agreement in years. There are now 262 FTAs in force all over the world. The U.S. is party to only 14. Since 2007 (when TPA expired), there have been more than 100 trade agreements signed. The U.S. is party to none.

“And in the global economy, if you’re standing still, you’re falling behind. Because other countries are negotiating trade agreements without us. They’re tearing down barriers to their products and putting up barriers to our products.

“For instance, between 2000 and 2010, the countries of East Asia negotiated 48 trade agreements. We were part of just two of them. As a result, our share of their imports fell by 42 percent. Meanwhile, China is negotiating trade agreements all over the world.

“So the rules of the global economy are being written right now. The question is, are we going to write the rules . . . or is China? That’s why H.R. 1314, the Trade Act, would establish TPA or trade promotion authority.

“There’s been a lot of confusion out there about what exactly TPA is. Let’s get right to it. TPA is not a trade deal; it’s a process for negotiating trade deals. Why should we care about a process? Because a good process will get us a good result.

“TPA will give us the leverage we need to win a fair deal for the American worker. Because when other countries know the deal they agree to is the deal Congress will vote on, they’ll put their best offers on table.

“Here’s how it works. Congress says to the President, ‘When you submit a trade deal, we’ll give it an up-or-down vote on three conditions.’

“First, you’ve got to pursue specific negotiating objectives—nearly 150 of them.

“Second, you’ve got to regularly consult with Congress. Let us read the negotiating text. Give us regular briefings on the talks. Let us attend negotiating rounds.

“Third, and perhaps most importantly, this bill requires the President to make the text of every trade agreement public 60 days before he signs off on it.

“So the American people can read it themselves. This bill, for the first time ever, would put that requirement into law. And then at the end of the day, Congress gets the final say. No trade deal goes into effect unless Congress says so.

“Now I understand a lot of our members don’t trust the president. Neither do I. That’s precisely why I support this bill. TPA puts Congress in the driver’s seat.

“Mr. Speaker, the world is watching. If we don’t do this, we will send a signal to the world that America is not reliable. But if we do establish TPA, we will show the world that America is once again taking the lead.”

Did they just retry to pass the TAA via voice vote instead then when Levin asked for a recorded vote they cancelled it?

Yea, Boehner requested to have the TAA voted on again, it passed by voice, and Levin asked for a recorded vote. The recorded vote will happen later.

    Nixon would be so proud.
Liberty is lost through complacency and a subservient mindset. When we accept or even welcome automobile checkpoints, random searches, mandatory identification cards, and paramilitary police in our streets, we have lost a vital part of our American heritage. America was born of protest, revolution, and mistrust of government. Subservient societies neither maintain nor deserve freedom for long.

    Roll call of TPA vote:

Both had to pass for the bill to be sent to the President.

This has been in the works for 10 years. I have a hard time believing they are going to just abandon it after one minor setback.

They will revote on the TAA portion next week. If it passes, the TPA bill goes to the President.

302 against to 126 for. That is a pretty resounding defeat. What makes them think the vote would be much different in a week?

Because the Dems actually want the TAA, just not the TPA. So they are gonna get pushed into supporting TAA since TPA already passed. They voted against the TAA in an attempt to kill the TPA.

A lot of Republicans who voted against TAA will now probably vote Yes on the revote to ensure TPA passes. If about 2/3 of Republicans switch their votes, then TAA passes.
