Thread: Cutting spending is out of fashion for republicans.

Cutting spending is out of fashion for republicans.

Have you noticed that there's no talk of cutting spending by republicans? I think it proves that for 99% of republicans (and 100%) of democrats cutting the size of government is just a fad. The combination of an upcoming election and relatively calm economic news has silenced the talk of spending cuts. Just wait until the next economic crisis, and you'll see the phoney "cut government spending" republicans coming out of the woodwork.

Republicrats are 2 wings attached the same bird.
"One thing my years in Washington taught me is that most politicians are followers, not leaders. Therefore we should not waste time and resources trying to educate politicians. Politicians will not support individual liberty and limited government unless and until they are forced to do so by the people," says Ron Paul."

    GOP are just debt douches.

Democrats tax, spend, and then borrow.

Republicans just spend and borrow more than they tax, and act like that's noble or something.

In a way, a social democrat that'd take away 9 tenths of all people's stuff, at least hold the honor of piling the bull a little less on that field.

I despise the way the Republican politician is just as much profligate scum as a democrat, but shifts it all on a tab.

When did that fad happen? I don't ever remember Republicans being for cutting spending.

I have to give credit to the Republican/conservative propaganda outlets. They dupe their constituents better than any party I know of. (except maybe the Hitler era Nazi party, but that's debatable)

You would if you were 110 years old. You know--if you remembered the last time the nation had a president (Calvin Coolidge) more interested in providing the peace, liberty and prosperity the people need rather than the interest payments the bankers bribe Washington to increase.

If we don't get people in office who have the principles needed to create a new Roaring Twenties, and soon, then only God's Infinite Mercy will be able to save this nation. And I wouldn't blame God for deciding we're not worth the trouble.

Deficit Hawks are loudest and most annoying during election cycles every 2-4 years.

Silent Cal is my 2nd favorite POTUS. William Henry Harrison is no. 1 by far.

IMHO, the Roaring 20's was more a post-war/post National Bank boom than a result of rational policy.

I don't see it that way actually, and I'll explain why.

Their constituency, speak at large, doesn't really want to reduce government spending. Come on let's be real.
They love the damned government. The want it to spend just as much as possible.

But, they want it to do so without feeling like they are in support of doing so.

They want to feel like a big*** patriot, a shining moral white knight, but at the end of the day? They want to end up 67, having a regular medicare and social security check coming through the mail, while they sit in the air conditioning and watch Andy Griffith and Gunsmoke, between bouts of cheering on the troops invading some new country they've never heard of, and throwing the occasional teenagers in jail for something. No big difference between what they want and a social democrat. Just a slight matter of scale.

Well, how do you accomplish that?

They don't dupe them. Nah. They don't need to trick them. They just need to tell them exactly the manure that they prefer to hear. A big crock of lies is what they want.

They want to be tricked. It's why they're so easily satisfied by the campaign slop, that the candidates they vote for throw in their troughs so to speak.

Beg your pardon, good sir. I should've qualified that as faux deficit hawks. Especially those with ready access to radio mics and TV cameras and print media. ~hugs~ back at ya, comrade.

$#@!. Here in Georgia, if you are the least bit serious about cutting gov't spending, GA GOP will stand in line in front of Democrats for a chance to tell you how 'fringe' and 'extreme' you are. They don't want that kind of nonsense in their party. You gotta be able to win elections and to win elections you can't talk about spending.

It wasn't so long ago. There were a ton of people who believed in that when Reagan ran. Unfortunately, they didn't notice that he didn't walk his talk. Before that, it was Goldwater.

There have always been more than one faction in political parties. It's even true with the Libertarian party.

Haven't asked the lady that--and I'm unlikely to become stupid enough to do so.

And if it doesn't do anything, it's either your computer or your aim. I can't help you with either one.

Okay, I'll tinker with it and see if I can make the linky work. Thanks for your efforts, good sir.

The blue double arrow next to the screen name. It allows you to go see the quoted post in its natural habitat; it's very handy if a question of context arises. I like it. But it is tiny and hard to click the first few times you try.

Pleasure. Nice to be able to reveal this handy feature to others who might not have known, as well.

The first couple years after Obama got elected in 2008. Because of the crash and the high deficits and a democratic president it was politically popular to say you are for cutting spending.

Of course as you said, they aren't really for cutting spending, they just like to talk about it.

Cutting Fed spending , slashing to the bone should be a high priority in heavy Pub districts where they are not at risk . That way , you could have some national representation .

    Exactly.

I can't tell you how many times of heard republicans, especially older ones, that we can't touch SS, Medicare or defense. They say we just need to cut waste. All we need to do is elect a republican and he'll cut the waste and everything will be good.

The American people DON'T want spending cuts. Only a small percentage of the Americans really want spending cuts. We have the politicians we elected and they respect our wishes.
