Thread: Where I am, what I have been doing, and how you can help.

Where I am, what I have been doing, and how you can help.

I have been in Iowa about two weeks now. I hit the ground running and have had much success. Here is some background:

Due to the campaigns wise decision to discourage our grassroots army from descending on Iowa (I have heard multiple voters here in Iowa tell me that our disorganized presence in 07 hurt us...), I have not been very public about being here.

To make a long story short, I was originally asked to help manage the "Grassroots House" that was proposed, and then cancelled due to legitimate campaign concerns. but I was still requested (by the roots) to come help with the County Fair project, (with Steve B's approval). I was also booked to help stage manage for the campaign at the straw poll itself, but that fell through after I was named as part of RevPAC. By that time, I had already raised money to get here and booked my ticket. So we have soldiered on.

Here is what I have done so far:

    • Attended "Tea Party" events to pass out lit and network
    • Tabled in busy "MarketPlace" areas
    • Canvassed VFW's and Retirement Communities, (where I have booked two "Movie Nights to show, "For Liberty")
    • Manned a GOP booth at a County Fair, signing up straw poll attendees
    • Manned a Ron Paul Grassroots Booth (with goRPaul), signing up straw poll attendees and very effective general outreach.

Next, I move onto Pella to do my best to make sure the Opera House is filled to capacity for the showing of "For Liberty". I will be delivering The Grassroots Press with movie inserts, door to door, as well as doing business out reach and more... (See Esoteric's recent thread)

Thursday will be a particularly busy day. I will be in Pella in the am, will drive back here to Council Bluffs for the first Retirment Home Movie "Night" (is scheduled for 3p) and then racing back to attend the debate (our efforts here have been recognized and both goRPaul and myself have been offered tickets), then heading back to Pella to do a last push for and attend the showing (Yes, I brought a suit...)

Finally, I will be attending the Straw Poll as a simple grassroot, dressed in slacks and a polo, talking to anyone who is interested...

    How you can help.

Of course, money is always needed. If you want to help you can visit this page:

    http://www.maresco.us/support

As always, anything over necessary funds will be used on other grassroots projects.

Further, if anyone in the Des Moines/Ames area can put two activists up on the night of the debate it will be much appreciated. goRPaul has a conversion van and I can stay in the car IDefendThePlatform has loaned me, but having a place to shower, crash would be MUCH better,

And finally, If anyone knows anyone in the Pella area that can put me up or let me crash in their driveway for the next week, that would be great, as well...

So that's about it. I am getting ready to head over to confirm details of the Thursday night showing of For Liberty, then coming back here to pick up the copies of The Grassroots Press that goRPaul is still stuffing with inserts, then it is off to Pella, and success!

He just keeps going and going and going! Relentless this guy is! I got to see first hand how effective he is when talking to people- knowing how to get their attention, establish rapport, and really sell them on Ron Paul. We should all strive to work as hard as he does. There's no question that every dollar supporting him is well worth it.

Reading this article on Ron Paul Forums really made my night!

Michael, you are doing such a good job in Iowa! I helped with $$$ for the Opera House showing of "For Liberty"!

This is so neat how you folks are also showing the video at movie night at a retirement home in Counsel Bluffs.

Everything you are doing makes me proud!

    Hope to see you soon.

Michael Maresco is a man I much admire and an American Patriot of the first caliber!

I had the honor and privilege of escorting him (between Las Vegas and Carson city) across the edge of Death Valley on his bike ride from The Statue of Liberty to Alcatraz Island.

I'm posting a monthly donation in support of your efforts to restore our republic; I'm confident you will use it wisely.

God bless and keep you safe!

Our guest room is always open to you when you're in town.

    - Just taking a break between events. Got good news, and some bad news.

Bad news first. One of the screenings in Council Bluffs has been cancelled after democrats complained. The flier I made had no "name" on it, nor anything GOP... Not sure how it happened... The lady did say that we can distribute lit though. So "The Grassroots Press" is being delivered. The other screening is still on and that AD already cleared it with management, so will pray that our enemies do not put too much pressure on...

    Now some good news,

I made friends with the editor of the local paper here while buying the ad, and he told me this AM that there will be the ad, a listing in the community events section, AND a regular story that he wrote for us. Further, attending the CSPAN event this AM I ran into a local AM host who interviewed me for a plug on his show, airing tomorrow

    busy busy

Thanks all and I could not do it without you all. I hope to be sending out my next batch of "Thank you" emails tonight. Yesterdays expenses included the $160 for the ad in three papers, $150 in (color) printing costs for inserts and posters, and the gas to get back and forth to Des Moines (the closest "copy center"). Without your support I would have been nervous about the print job. Thanks

^^^ Thanks heaps guys, great to see you LX

So last night I put Gage and goRPaul to work stuffing inserts

and after dealing with a situation till 3am, got up at 7:30a and started blockwalking. just lit drops. approx five hundred in 7 hrs..., kinda beat the hell out myself... Luckily, after the first neighborhood of large yards, I found others much tighter, including a great one with fancy duplexs, and a couple apt blocks.. Wanted to hit a trailer Park but the manager was an ass, actually asked who I was supporting before telling me No, cant you see the no soliciting sign? (Uh duh, why does he think I went and asked first). Other apts had the same sign, but the managers were much nicer and either allowed me to go, or leave a small bag full where people pick up their papers... Mainly neighborhoods though. No idea how many miles I walked, but definitely feeling it now.

Was great when I took a break, bought the paper and found this:

    Front Page:

    Article:

    and Ad

    It pays to advertise

So after running around there, I zipped up to shower at AdamT's motel (an hour drive), where I put on a suit and went to the debate in Ames (1.5 hr drive)

and acted professionally for us all

and now, I am finally relaxing...

phew... long day... have a lot to do tomorrow, and Sat... Then Sunday, I may just sleep in
