America’s longest serving bomber, the U.S. Air Force B-52 Stratofortress, just set a new record under the Trump administration. In a combat mission last month, the U.S. bomber unleashed a fury of 19 Joint Direct Attack Munitions on the Taliban in the Hemland Province in Afghanistan.
The bombs targeted money making products that have helped finance the Tailban’s terrorism; namely, the opium fields and heroin factories.
“The first munitions released in combat from the [conventional rotary launcher] occurred on Nov. 18 in support of Operation Inherent Resolve (Iraq),” Air Forces Central Command spokeswoman Capt. AnnMarie Annicelli told Military.com. “However, this was the first use of the CRL in a major, deliberately planned operation.”
“The aircraft was equipped with a new device for launching munitions,” Brig. Gen. Lance Bunch, director of NATO’s Resolute Support mission, said according to Military.com.
“So, we’ve used — so far, we’ve used B-52s with their new conventional rotary launcher,” he explained.
Military.com noted the importance of the CRL: “The conventional rotary launcher allows the B-52 to carry more smart bombs.”
“Of note, it was the single most — largest number of precision munitions ever dropped from a B-52,” Bunch said in regards to the attack.
Thank goodness we have a president who understand the need to use force against terrorists who want to bring us harm.
Not only is he going after terrorists, but he’s giving his generals the freedom to attack in new and creative ways.
As Military.com noted, “Empowered with more independence and authority under the Trump administration, the U.S. military this year has turned to a number of technologies in its arsenal for the war in Afghanistan, from the largest conventional bomb to the F-22 Raptor stealth fighter.”
“The new strategy highlights that this is a new war,” Bunch told reporters.
“The gloves are off. We’ve got now these authorities we need to be able to go and target the Taliban network,” he added. “That is our new strategy going forward and it’s definitely been a game-changer and the Taliban is definitely feeling it.”
While the fight in Afghanistan has been going on for 16 years now, President Trump is actually doing something to bring the Taliban to its knees once and for all.
Previous presidents used Afghanistan in various ways for political points.
But Trump is using it as a way to show the world he means business when it comes to those who would cause harm to American citizens.
