Support for gun control just hit its lowest point in almost a decade

In the wake of the 2018 mass school shooting in Parkland, Florida, a new generation of teen activists emerged who insisted that the old boom/bust cycle of gun control politics in this country was no more.

Gone would be the public's short attention span on the need for more restrictions on gun sales and gun ownership. And in its place would be a sustained campaign to keep the issues of guns -- and the mass shootings committed with them -- front and center in the public's mind.

Almost four years on from Parkland, however, a familiar cycle has asserted itself.

Just 52% of Americans polled now say that the "laws covering the sales of firearms" should be stricter than they currently are, the lowest number that Gallup has measured on the question since 2014.

That marks a remarkable erosion on the question from just three years ago as the country was still reeling from the 17 people killed in Parkland. At that point, two thirds of respondents favored more strict gun laws.

In 2019, there were still 64% of people who told Gallup they wanted stricter gun laws. That dropped to 57% in 2020 and now 52% in 2021.

    ...

Meanwhile, Americans are buying more guns than ever before. In 2020, nearly 23 million guns were bought -- a record. That surge has continued through 2021.

Hopefully this is a sign that people are waking up.

I am a libertarian. I am advocating everyone enjoy maximum freedom on both personal and economic issues as long as they do not bring violence unto others.

We can no longer let off the gas pedal. It's full blown acceleration from here on out.
Don't be afraid to talk to people about guns and gun ownership. We need to let it continue bleeding into the consciousness of the American public everywhere we can.

If one thinks carefully on this, the stated fact doesn't really mean much, necessarily. Support for gun control means anything from lots of tyranny, to even more tyranny.

Consider how well trained are the minds of most people, even so-called "conservatives" who rail against expanded restrictions and for the right to carry nationwide, yet remain largely on board with NFA restrictions, stupidly accepting the underlying assumption that civilians don't "need" RPGs and tanks and machine-guns and missiles, and Claymores, etc. There are even people who claim to be pro-second who still say only military and police...

We who call ourselves patriots, often aren't. We talk of equality, yet still separate ourselves from "government". The depth and breadth and extent of our mental deficiencies where freedoms are concerned is vast. We live in a giant cube of false assumptions, the prison of which ensnares far too many people, making liberty nearly impossible for all.

Until we become quite uncivil in our attitudes toward tyrants and the tyrannies that demote us all, decent living will remain elusive.

There is only one correct way: freedom. All other solutions are non-solutions.

This is the kind of headline should be repeatedly talked about to change the narrative.

Gun control is far worse than is being presented. Most people have no clue until they try to buy a gun.

In states like NY it is basically illegal to own a hand gun. 4 references required and it takes up to a year to be approved. As if that is what the founders had in mind. Total violation of 2A but the people having no clue still think we need "common sense" gun control. How much "common sense" gun control do we need, confiscation?

The most liberal state in the nation who is going to be willing to provide a reference when the state is so anti-gun and there is fear of those you provided a reference for, what happens if they use that right in self defense? Fears of it coming back to haunt them. Thus basically the defacto total illegality of owning hand guns in NY.

This article is a start in the change of the narrative but regardless we are still too far in total violation of 2A.
    * See my visitor message area for caveats related to my posting history here.
    * Also, I have effectively retired from all social media including posting here and are basically opting out of anything to do with national politics or this country on federal or state level and rather focusing locally. I may stop by from time to time to discuss philosophy on a general level related to Libertarian schools of thought and application in the real world.

As long as you're put on an enemy of the state list when obtaining a firearm you're not truly free, you're target #1 when SHTF
Guns were taken by gunpoint during Katrina.
A savage barbaric tribal society where thugs parade the streets and illegally assault and murder innocent civilians, yeah that is the alternative to having police. Oh wait, that is the police

SCOTUS might actually finally do something about this (NYSRPA v. Bruen). The Cathedral is worried:
