I finally got around reading the book. It was great! I highly recommend it to everybody.
Now here are the themes, institutions and ideologies that occurred in the book for which I found resemblances. It is beyond sad.
We're living in an Orwellian nightmare-light. How long is it going to stay a light variety of it is an important question.

I have viewed this a bit differently.

The world in which we live has, until perhaps very recently, been a combination of the two. It had the sweet, crunchy coating of BNW with the chewy center of 1984.

Since 9/11 (actually long prior) that candy coating has been progressively thinning and, in some areas, has actually given way to the chewy, gooey, openly rotten center it had covered for so many decades.

The candy was the lure by which the American people were taken in. Once ensnared, there was no more reason to retain the longer-term maintenance of the costly coating. In time, the coating is being allowed to dissolve by dribs and drabs in the acidic rain of our current political tyranny as the trapped meaner adjusts to his new reality. In more time and in generations to come, the meaner and his grandchildren will be completely accepting and even demanding of their condition. I have no doubt that in the precise spirit of Minitrue they will be taught to fear freedom and through that fear, to hate it with bitter and unrelenting venom. Their existences (note, they will not have "lives") will be narrow and bland and utterly devoid of anything that you or I might consider worthy of our desire and esteem. They will be sufficiently satisfied - after all, what choice will they have when the managerial technologies will have narrowed their channels of thought to such constriction that for those people nothing else will exist. There will be no happiness as we know it, but just this bland, semi-awareness sufficient to nothing greater than the discharge of duties to which their material existences will have been assigned by their betters. That is pure 1984.

Huxley's vision was similar, but far too generous. I do not for a moment believe that Theye would ultimately tolerate a world of bouncy, "pneumatic", happy drones. I have found in my observations that such personality types appear to thrive on the misery of others. They appear to crave and demand it as matters of entitlement by virtue of their positions as the elite of the world. Perhaps it is the relief the come to feel, seeing the abject horror of the lives of others while knowing that it is not they who occupy such lowly positions. "Position" appears to me to be a major element in this equation. Such people crave position superior to that of those around them. Those at the top crave the greatest gap between themselves and those over whom they presume to lord. Now consider how the two visions, Huxley's and Orwell's, play to that desire. Which provides the greater gap - that between Themme and doped-up jiggly-tits or those living the nightmare existence of the crushed prole, bred to every sort of dullness?

Orwell's vision stands to prevail in the longer term due to the sadistic nature of those who tend to seek political power over their fellows. Huxley gave us alphas, betas, and gammas. Orwell's vision stands to render up what I will call "omegas"; creatures bred to that dull-wittedness such that not only have they no desire for anything better, they have not even the capacity to come to such a want. The omega is the slave that knows not his true status, but deems himself king of a population of one. How vastly superior shall the elite man then feel as he lords over his army of helpless dimwits!
