The counter point is that Assad using chemical weapons on his own people helps him maintain control at a realtively low cost, so using them was worth the risk to him. The world didn't do a full invasion to topple the regime--the US strikes probably did nothing and Assad was probably expecting a much worse response. If he did it, he'll probably do it again.

I say this as someone who has no way of verifying what happened one way or another. So the fundamental issue is that the US Military shouldn't be used to punish bad behavior around the world--it should be used to defend liberty from foreign threats.

From what I saw it was us saying "Nobody calls me chicken!", we purposely did a weak tit attack because it was a show of authority, not over Syria but over Russia in the region. Rand should have added that 3 days before the alleged chemical attacks, Trump was announcing that he was going to pull our troops out of Syria. That created the motivation to fake the attacks.

It was ineffective, didn't kill many people, didn't kill the terrorists that Assad is trying to defeat, and now the US military - instead of going home - has attacked them.
