Battle for the leadership of the French conservative party is in chaos and entertaining!

Both former prime minister Fillon and incumbent UMP leader Cope both claims victory in a chaotic primary to succeed Sarkozy. The centrist Fillon versus the far-right Cope fight just helps Socialist President Hollande (who is very unpopular currently) and the extreme nationalist Marine Le Pen. I think the true winner is Sarkozy who might run in 2017 as the great savior of the party.

Recent reports now say Jean Cope has won by about 98 votes margin out of 180,000 ballots casted.

He's to the left of Clinton by American standards. He is talking the talk on immigration, but France doesn't even really handle it's own immigration policy, the EU does.

I consider making legislation on banning muslim veils, bills dealing with anti-white racism extreme. I see him as a French Santorum.

Veil bans aren't really extreme by ultra-secular French standards. They act a similar way towards Christianity and Judaism, banning Kippahs and Christian crosses in public schools alongside the veils. According to Eurobarometer 2005, only 34% of French people believe in God, this number is undoubtedly even lower now in 2012. There is a great deal of hostility towards Islam by non-religious and atheist people in western Europe. Geert Wilders, Ayaan Hirsi Ali, Pat Condell, Kurt Westergaard, Theo Van Gogh to name just a few. This is because in Europe, the most religious people are in fact the Muslims.

This guy is far from Santorum, who focused his campaign on issues like prayer in schools, displaying the Ten Commandments on public buildings, abortion and gay marriage. US politicians don't go after Muslim veils because of the First Amendment and the relatively low number of Muslims in the USA.

Anti-white racism is a fact and even Ron Paul accepts that. I'm no white nationalist (I'm not even white myself), but go into any majority African American community in the US and you will hear a lot of anti-white racism. Legislating against it is bad, but repealing any "multiculturalist" legislation is a good thing.

None of it matters. They are staring at a giant debt bomb that dwarfs Greece and everyone else.

Who really wants to be the one in charge when that sucker hits the wall?

I remembered clearly that Cope and Sarkozy wanted to amend the European Constitution to include that Christianity is the background and influence in Europe. The Catholic Church is a very strong conservative force in France and other Mediterranean countries wanting the social environment to stay traditional.
