The good news is that Texas has no state income tax, so all you have to contend with is Federal income tax, local property taxes (deducible on your Federal taxes), and high-ish sales taxes. We have no VAT. Texas is nice enough. I'm from KY originally, so I miss true green spots (everything here in central texas and west is a greenish sort of brown, or brownish sort of green). You'll be amazed at the size of the vehicles on the road. :D

This is what I've been thinking for a while now. The original apportionment of Representatives was, what, no more than 1 rep for 30,000. Then Congress limited the number to 435 based on, what, the 1910 Census? Right now, we're averaging 1 Rep for about 750,000 citizens. I certainly don't feel represented by my Rep. I'm in the same district as Fort Hood, so they get all the boot-licking love from my guy. It seems like we should have a few thousand Representatives, who can represent a wider cross-section of political ideologies, etc. I feel this would foster needing to form alliances with various segments beyond just the silly R and D we currently have, and would allow different groups (e.g., an-caps, libertarians, heck, even Communists) to feel represented in Congress. Is that just a stupid idea?

I faced D.C. saluted and had my hand on my chest when it went off. I think I'm OK this time, comrades. I couldn't possibly care less what any POTUS says, and how this particular POTUS would say it.

Interesting. In my head, it's stupid on a Milanese runway, but it was pretty cool in Total Recall... ;)

I found yesterday's tournament riveting. I was clapping for him from my sofa when he made the final putt. He might not be a perfect human being, but the dude has grit. It was fun seeing thousands of people following this legendary golfer as he continues to make history. There's a cool article on golfchannel.com where he texted his caddy to ask him what he needed to work on. His caddy said his bunker play. Cool to see that Tiger asks questions like that, even at his level, and has a good team. C'mon Ryder Cup and 2019 major championships...!
