Maybe if Trump took on issues like surveillance, the (fictional) liberty wing of the GOP would support him more.

The civil liberties-friendly wing of the left has been supportive of changes to domestic surveillance for a long time. If Trump actually gave a shit about it he could easily make changes. The fact that he has not and will not make an effort to do something that is so in line with his PR narrative says everything that needs to be said.

The question isn't whether or not his campaign was surveilled, it is whether or not such surveillance was legitimate. The sort of person who is now a Trumpkin likely believed such surveillance to be a good and legitimate thing before Trump began speaking about it.

Trump can evidently convince Trumpkins that up is down and black is white, and he's been beating the 'I was spied on' drum since 2016. If the Invertebrate-American population believes that the deep state is real and that the deep state uses domestic surveillance against fine, upstanding liberty-minded folks like Trump, it should take no effort to convince them that the logical solution is to at the very least revamp FISA. Rand had that debate at a time when the Trumpkin believed that government power was a weapon to be used against brown people. Now they at least vaguely understand that it is also a weapon that also works against white people. (This exclusively applies to intelligence agencies. They've gone the opposite way on police power, and support it more vigorously than ever.)

If that's true, then why have neither Trump nor his flunkies ever suggested any sort of changes to domestic surveillance laws?

Yeah, that's not a bad example of how they work the propaganda. Humans are mostly herd animals, and propagandists are sheep dogs. Divide and conquer. College graduates buy the bull, and you want to appear educated, right? Democrats buy the bull, and you don't want to sound like a Republican, right? Dubya couldn't even put together a coherent sentence, remember? You don't want to sound like him, so buy the bull. Now we'll lop off the outliers and look at the data again. Lone wolves may be the only ones who know the truth, but isn't sticking with the herd more important? So we'll just say lopping them off the edges improves the data. Here's a fine example of the 'Safety In Numbers' propaganda the populace is bombarded with daily: A classic example. It all seems like such a reasonable little piece of sarcasm to hear thirty-six times a day, seven days a week. Be effective! Stick to your half of the herd! Don't be a voice calling in the wilderness! That's frustrating and depressing! Of course, it could also be rephrased as follows:

You're going to call a Senator and tell her to vote for an amendment to a House bill? Or you're going to tell a Senator to vote for a House bill because of an amendment that hasn't been added to it yet, without telling her to ensure it gets added first, and ensure the Senate version includes it too? Even though House members are obviously easier to persuade, because you're clearly a larger percentage if his or her constituency than a senator of an overpopulated state? Do you even know who your Rep is? Good, dannno. *pats head* Your value as an activist is on par with your ability to spot--or even define--propaganda.

I was being sarcastic, and yeah, Onion. Point still remains that the only control we have over our data is to either put it out there or dont put it out there. Once its out there, all control is lost. Bank of America might just as well sell the shit to the people who would get it all in data breaches anyway, and I would not be at all surprised to find out they did. All of it can and will be used to humiliate people / damage their reputations / enforce total behavioral control. Things we think are good about ourselves someone else can analyze until they find something "wrong" and use that against us. Other side is once total obedience is had, the choices we may be offered will be to either kill such and such guys family for having the wrong political views, or they will kill yours.

If working within the Republican party hasn't had the desired effect, and we know that the Libertarian party is pointless, maybe we should pursue another option? What about the Constitution party? Or maybe we make our own new Freedom party? It may not have as much success at first, but think of all the voting that we would get to do to fill all the new positions for the party. It could be a lot of fun.

Does their failure to recognize excuse or otherwise validate the actions? A man rushes toward you with a gun yelling "this is where you die". He thinks he is in the right, seeing no harm. What do YOU do - stand idly to see how things play out, or do you take action? This is exactly what happened to me on 6/3 when a truck driver on I-64 threatened to murder my wife and myself. He waved a Glock at us, then got out of his truck, approached us, say "this is where you die", and then walked right up to the front of our vehicle, at which point I'd had quite enough of threats and proceeded to run him over with the Subaru. His intentions were irrelevant. His threats, however, were not and I took action with my primary weapon. We agree, but the fact is that they currently face no consequence that dissuades, which is why they continue to misbehave. .

Things aren't that bad. Government only takes roughly 50% of everything ever earned, through 1000's of different taxes. Things could be a lot worse. I mean, we could have Guatemalans illegally crossing the border. Now that would be a disaster.

D00d, that veil was lifted long years ago and the internet makes available endless sources of valid truth regarding the right ways by which to live among one's fellows. The Meaner not only ignores it all, he vehemently rejects it with the shrieking venom of the terrified. He would sooner see his mother sold into a nunnery than so much as think about proper human relations as must certainly differ from his corrupted version of same. So long as he is allowed to put his inadequate pecker where he pleases, consent be damned, and is praised for doing so, the rest of his inborn freedoms can rot for all he cares. I witness this truth every day. For several months in 2015 I was returned to the air at WTSQ in Charleston WV. The majority of the staff there are typical hard-left sorts and hated with venom anything that smacked of freedom beyond the narrow, timid, and paltry limits to which they had been broken and trained. When I described proper human freedom, I would nearly bet money I do not have that had some authority given Michael Early leave to shoot me dead on the spot and the gun with which to do it, he would have at least seriously considered pulling the trigger. He is a typical left-leaning degenerate who could not shut it about how he spent a decade as a heroin addict, thinking that this made him "edgy", when in fact it only made him out as a blithering idiot. But everyone else, beside a handful of us, praised him and... well, just wow... This is the stupidity that ranges freely from sea to shining sea and which is regarded as some sort of virtue. Most who work in "government" are nothing more than useful idiots and moral cowards who have not the sand nor fabric to refuse the felonious orders issued to them by their superiors. Remember NŁrnberg, where "vee ver only follovink ohduz" failed to save the criminals from the gallows? Whatever happened to the moral courage that put nooses around those deserving necks? Today, a cop murders, claims he was following orders or was afeared, and he skates. The same may be said of many other agents of the Tyrant. Deep is the doodoo in which we find ourselves. We could get ourselves out in a matter of days or, at most, weeks. But no... we choose to rest idly in the face of murderous tyranny. That's on each and every one of us.
