It's funny that I heard more about Miriam Kerry from conservative talk radio than I did from lamestream media. I think that's because the initial story put out was that D.C. police had killed a would be assassin of President Obama. (And that's the reason Congress cheered.)

And of course every bit of that is true. I LOL at "conservatives" like Candace Owens who say "The government doesn't make money." That's only "true" in the sense that the Federal Reserve is quasi government.

I've read more studies about masks than anybody I know. And more important (for me at least) is that I looked at the countries that did not lock down and were having good results. They were wearing masks. Edit: Here is a metastudy from 2016. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/27044522/

If you wear a mask because you want to, you're ok in my book. But I would recommend that you look into the effectiveness of masks and make sure you understand what kind of protection they offer if you haven't already. They provide a false sense of security to many who think a piece of cloth over the face will prevent contracting a disease.

How about those of us who wore a mask and refused to lockdown when Fauci said don't wear a mask and stay in your house? Anyhow, we've been told "If 80% of people wear masks this will be over." Of course it won't be.

Masks provide a false sense of security, IMHO. I know others will disagree. If anyone feels threatened, that person should isolate themselves. The rest of us are ready to resume life.

The urban areas are showing their stripes. Not complying here. Seeing a fair amount of non-compliance in a "sub" urban environment (I live in a small city - 100k within city limits) -- not as much as I'd like, but still, a fair amount. Thank you. There are some locals working on some activism opportunities in my neck of the woods. I'm planning on participating. I'll update here at RPF if it amounts to anything.

You know that argument doesn't really affect the point I was making at all right? But okay. Let's expand my analogy. Let's say Magic Johnson had inoperable cancer, was going around publicly saying "You don't need to wear condoms or slow down on your multiple sex partners. Look at me! I'm going to Hugh Hefner's bareback sex orgy!" and THEN he came down HIV positive and died. (I know he didn't die but let's say all of this happened before there as any treatment). Would it make sense to say "Well he might have caught it some place other than Hugh Hefner's bareback sex orgy?" Really? I suppose if you were trying to defend Hugh Hefner from a wrongful death suit then maybe. (Although that would be a stretch since Magic Johnson assumed the risk similair to how Herman Cain assumed the risk.) But if you were trying to defend the position that condoms are unnecessary to prevent HIV (masks are unneeded to prevent the spread of COVID) and that you can still have unprotected sex with multiple partners and not catch HIV (you can be in crowds where you aren't socially distancing and nobody is wearing masks without the risk of COVID), well...Magic catching HIV after flaunting the public health recommendations would certainly be bad optics for you no matter how you tried to spin it. Seriously, I have no idea who is advising Trump on COVID but he's been making all of the wrong moves. He shouldn't have shut the economy down. (I blame Fauci for that). He should have embraced masks sooner. (Fauci is partly to blame for that as well). He should have insisted on social distancing at his rallies especially when it looked like the numbers were going to be down. (I blame his ego for that). Now his defenders are scrambling to come up with a coherent argument. The one place where he can score a win is on school openings. The left is really stepping in it because the "experts" at the American Acacemy of Pediatrics recommend students be physically present for school this year citing statistics showing a low risk of school age children either dying from COVID or transmitting it. They can still CATCH it though, but according to the AAP that risk doesn't outweigh the benefits (as they see it) of children being physically present in the classroom. (And yes I know homeschoolers disagree).

So he was making a series of not bright decisions. That's like saying "Magic Johnson was having sex will all kinds of strange women so it's likely that he picked it up from someone other than one particular HIV infected prostitute."

If you can let go of the Trump worship for a moment, you'll see that enhanced_deficit isn't wrong on this. Trump should have insisted on social distancing as a way to mask low numbers. It was a stupid, stupid gamble. He gained nothing from having a "packed" half full auditorium. Herman Cain took a gamble too and it may have cost him his life. Yes he was old and had underlying conditions. That's why he should have stayed the hell out of crowds. People can argue that masks don't work. But if Cain had had on a mask and still got sick and died then Trump wouldn't be dealing with bad optics along with losing a key supporter. Goodness. Total train wreck. No other way to spin this one.

https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/black-lives-white-spectacle-portland-protests-have-lost-focus-civil-n1234886 By Alicia Victoria Lozano PORTLAND, Ore. — Black community leaders are urging local protesters to shift the focus of demonstrations back to the Black Lives Matter movement and away from what has become a largely “white spectacle.” Standing in front of a large banner bearing an image of Rep. John Lewis, the Black civil rights icon who died last week, the Rev. E.D. Mondainé, president of the Portland branch of the NAACP, told protesters, “The focus has been moved from where it is supposed to be and made to be a spectacle, a debacle.” “This is no new thing we’re experiencing. We have seen this from the beginning of time,” Mondainé said. “Four hundred years we have struggled as Black people in this nation. … We have been made to be the last that were informed but the first that were affected.” Image: Mothers form a human chain during a protest in front of the Multnomah County Justice Center in Portland, Ore., on Thursday.Ankur Dholakia / AFP - Getty Images

I wish things were a lot more local too. I'm really not looking for a country of 300 million at all. I think that's too big. Those who didn't want to live by Christian law could live somewhere else and choose God's judgment over his blessings.

And while I do believe the BIble requires civil authorities to punish homosexuality, and with death as the maximum penalty, I don't think it would be legitimate even for the government to just round up people in a gay bar.

  8. Sorry, but you have failed. That verse does not contain the words "Grace is irresistible." You can interpret it that way, but that's not what the verse says. You had to admit there was "relational language" in the Bible. Yet you have stuck to your guns that there isn't a verse that says "Have a relationship with Jesus." Likewise there is no verse that says "Grace is irresistible." If you were honest you would simply admit that. But you aren't honest.

In the twilight of the Cold War, the United States spent millions of dollars to supply Afghan schoolchildren with textbooks filled with violent images and militant Islamic teachings, part of covert attempts to spur resistance to the Soviet occupation.
