Chicago is worse than Afghanistan. https://chicago.suntimes.com/crime/2020/7/12/21321569/chicago-weekend-shootings-homicide-gun-violence-july-10-13 The alarming numbers marked a dip from the gun violence that befell the city over the Fourth of July weekend, when 79 people were shot, 15 fatally. Eleven of those victims were minors, and two of the children died from their injuries.

More caravans with children. I'm betting late September and October will see a wave of crossings as the Summer heat wanes and before the election when Trump loses.

Iran will have nukes soon now that China has their back. https://www.nytimes.com/2020/07/11/world/asia/china-iran-trade-military-deal.html The partnership, detailed in an 18-page proposed agreement obtained by The New York Times, would vastly expand Chinese presence in banking, telecommunications, ports, railways and dozens of other projects. In exchange, China would receive a regular — and, according to an Iranian official and an oil trader, heavily discounted — supply of Iranian oil over the next 25 years. The document also describes deepening military cooperation, potentially giving China a foothold in a region that has been a strategic preoccupation of the United States for decades. It calls for joint training and exercises, joint research and weapons development and intelligence sharing — all to fight “the lopsided battle with terrorism, drug and human trafficking and cross-border crimes.” The partnership — first proposed by China’s leader, Xi Jinping, during a visit to Iran in 2016 — was approved by President Hassan Rouhani’s cabinet in June, Iran’s foreign minister, Mohammad Javad Zarif, said last week.

I'm betting it was arson. https://ktla.com/news/local-news/roof-destroyed-at-san-gabriel-mission-after-fire-broke-out-at-249-year-old-church/ A fire broke out at the San Gabriel Mission early Saturday and burned the roof and much of the church’s interior, officials said. Authorities have not determined what caused the blaze at the 249-year-old church on 428 S. Mission Drive. In previous weeks, statues of the priest who worked to convert Native Americans to Catholicism in the 18th century and forced them to say in missions have been removed across Southern California, including at the San Gabriel church.

Evidently, you must have the appropriate gun for such circumstances. I don't remember reading that in the 2A. https://www.bostonglobe.com/2020/07/11/nation/police-execute-search-warrant-home-gun-toting-couple-st-louis/ ST. LOUIS (AP) — Authorities executed a search warrant at the St. Louis mansion of a white couple whose armed defense of their home during a recent racial injustice protest drew widespread attention, their attorney confirmed Saturday. Mark and Patricia McCloskey, who are personal injury lawyers, were caught on video brandishing guns as demonstrators walked past their Renaissance palazzo-style home on June 28 while headed to protest outside of the mayor's home nearby. The video showed Mark McCloskey, 61, wielding a long-barreled gun and Patricia McCloskey, 63 standing next to him waving a handgun. Joel Schwartz, the couple's lawyer, said a search warrant was served Friday evening and that the gun Mark McCloskey was holding in the video was seized. Schwartz told The Associated Press that arrangements have been made to turn over to authorities on Saturday the gun that Patricia McCloskey had been holding, adding that her gun was inoperable at the time of the protest and still is.

https://www.chron.com/news/article/Germany-seizes-server-hosting-pilfered-U-S-15396234.php The documents came to light via a breach of Houston web-design company Netsential, which hosts portals for law enforcement agencies and “fusion centers,” state-run operations created after the 9/11 attacks to share threat intelligence with local and state police and private-sector partners. Best said they assume the seizure was related to the posting of the BlueLeaks documents. They said the files show “a lot of things that are entirely legal and normal and horrifying,” including police surveillance and police intelligence of dubious origin. Best said none were classified. The document dump helps expose “the United States’ overdeveloped police intelligence apparatus,” said Brendan McQuade, a criminology professor at the University of Southern Maine who has viewed the documents. The files do not include high-level intelligence but provide a window into the relationship between law enforcement at all levels, he said — one that he believes the FBI doesn’t want the public to see lest it ”add more fuel to the protests” against police brutality and racism in policing. Best said the files remain publicly accessible through more complicated means such as BitTorrent and the Tor network, both of which complicate censorship efforts. Best said the organization is now rebuilding its infrastructure for public access. “All they cost us is time,” they said.

https://www.bbc.com/news/world-latin-america-53341768 César Duarte, a former Mexican state governor who became a fugitive, has been arrested in Miami after more than three years on the run. Mr Duarte, governor of Chihuahua until 2016, fled after he was accused of embezzling public funds. He now faces extradition to Mexico, where he faces corruption charges. The arrest came as Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador paid an official visit to the US for talks with President Trump.

She has until next Tuesday to try. https://www.nbcnews.com/news/world/what-now-prince-andrew-royal-faces-scrutiny-after-ghislaine-maxwell-n1232905 LONDON — As the lurid headlines swirl in the wake of the arrest of Jeffrey Epstein's longtime confidant Ghislaine Maxwell, questions again are surging over what comes next for Britain's Prince Andrew, who is caught up in the high-profile affair. Maxwell, a British socialite, is behind bars at a detention center in Brooklyn, New York, and is expected to appear in court in New York next Tuesday, having been arrested in New Hampshire last week. She will face charges on four counts in connection with the trafficking of a minor for criminal sexual activity and two counts of perjury. Maxwell, 58, has not entered a plea, but has long denied any wrongdoing. Her attorney declined to comment after her arrest.

The decision, authored by Justice Mark Warby of the High Court of England and Wales, was Steele's first major court loss. "This allegation clearly called for closer attention, a more enquiring approach and more energetic checking," Warby wrote. "Orbis failed to take reasonable steps in this regard, and to that extent, a breach of the Fourth Principle is established." The "Fourth Principle" refers to a portion of the law penalizing the dissemination of inaccurate information. The dossier made additional inaccurate claims, including that the pair provided foreign policy advice to Putin, the judge found.
