The legislation pushes Beijing further along a collision course with the United States, Britain and other Western governments, which have said it erodes the high degree of autonomy the city was granted at its July 1, 1997, handover. Britain and some two dozen Western countries urged China to reconsider the law, saying Beijing must preserve the right to assembly and free press. "The United States will not stand idly by while China swallows Hong Kong into its authoritarian maw," U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said in a statement. He said the United States would stand with the people of Hong Kong and "respond to Beijing's attacks on freedoms of speech, the press, and assembly, as well as the rule of law." Washington, already in dispute with China over trade, the South China Sea and the coronavirus, began eliminating Hong Kong's special status under U.S. law on Monday, halting defence exports and restricting technology access.

Update: https://news.trust.org/item/20200630174037-qbqui HONG KONG/BEIJING, July 1 (Reuters) - Beijing on Tuesday unveiled new national security laws for Hong Kong that will punish crimes of secession, subversion, terrorism and collusion with foreign forces with up to life in prison, heralding a more authoritarian era for China's freest city. As the law came into force, authorities were set to throw a security blanket across the heart of the city's financial centre on Wednesday after activists vowed to defy a police ban and rally against the measures. Local media said up to 4,000 officers would be deployed to stamp out any protests.

Part of me wonders, how many of these protesters voted for her? https://apnews.com/99d3ac1bc28aa6aed31689c851e75e46 But Krewson went a step further: She publicly revealed the names and addresses of anti-police protesters, a decision that drew extra criticism in the tense weeks following George Floyd’s death at the hands of a white Minneapolis officer who pressed his knee to Floyd’s neck. More than 50,000 people have signed a petition calling for her resignation. Releasing the names and addresses was dangerous “because you never know what someone else will do with that information,” Aldermanic President Lewis Reed said Tuesday. Alderwoman Megan Green said Krewson’s action was “designed to intimidate and to quell dissent and to stop a movement that is happening not just locally” but across the country.

Suddenly, in a weird way I feel like I'm in the Matrix at least the early years of it. Found this on ways to stop/interfere with tracers. https://thetruthhunter.com/why-contact-tracing-should-scare-you-and-how-to-avoid-it/ HOW TO STOP THIS Over the years I have become very fond of my smart watch… but it has to go. An old fashioned wind up analog watch will have to do. My cell phone however is a different story. I use it too much. For work, for play, for simple information. However, there was a time I did not have one. If I was not at home, you left a message on the machine (before that, you left a message with whomever was home). It looks like once again people will have to start leaving me a message most of the time. Why? Because when I do not need my phone, it will be kept in a signal blocking case.

His vision of redrawing the map of the Holy Land, in line with President Donald Trump’s Mideast plan, has been welcomed by Israel’s religious and nationalist right wing and condemned by the Palestinians and the international community. Here’s a closer look at annexation:

Remember DeAngelo the dirty cop they captured. https://www.yahoo.com/news/californias-alleged-golden-state-killer-150307637.html DeAngelo, a Vietnam veteran and a grandfather, had never been on investigators’ radar until just before his arrest. Investigators didn’t connect a series of assaults in central and Northern California to slayings in Southern California until about a decade after the last killing and eventually settled on the Golden State Killer nickname for the mysterious assailant. Police used DNA from crime scenes to find a distant relative through a popular genealogy website database then built a family tree that eventually led them to him. They tailed DeAngelo and secretly collected DNA from his car door and a discarded tissue to get an arrest warrant.

Here's my thoughts. Trump is deliberately trying to lose. After a google search Tucker is onboard too. No president no matter what they think retweets "White Power" during national upheaval and rioting. I don't care if he thinks that but FFS he's got to have more sense than that. He's got to ask himself, "should I retweet that during these times?" and if so what might the consequences be? Especially only five months from elections??? He knows theres an election coming and if he gave half a shiit about it or being re-elected he would ask himself these questions. Consider also, that nobody on his campaign warns him?? weird. Only Trump could make Joe Biden a bumbling gaffe machine sound like a plausible alternative? He's throwing the election, like a boxer taking the fall but for what reason? what's the real reason for doing it. https://www.yahoo.com/news/trumps-white-power-retweet-set-011126104.html President Donald Trump set off a "five-alarm fire" in the White House on Sunday morning after he retweeted a video of one of his supporters saying "white power," according to two White House officials. The video remained on the president's Twitter page, where he has 82 million followers, for more than three hours because White House officials couldn't reach him to ask him to delete it, the two officials said. The president was at his golf club in Virginia and had put his phone down, the officials said.

https://www.yahoo.com/news/chinese-scientists-discover-swine-flu-230741167.html Researchers in China have discovered a new type of swine flu that is capable of triggering a pandemic, according to a study published on Monday in the US science journal PNAS. Named G4, it is genetically descended from the H1N1 strain that caused a pandemic in 2009. It possesses "all the essential hallmarks of being highly adapted to infect humans", say the authors, scientists at Chinese universities and China's Center for Disease Control and Prevention. From 2011 to 2018, researchers took 30,000 nasal swabs from pigs in slaughterhouses in 10 Chinese provinces and in a veterinary hospital, allowing them to isolate 179 swine flu viruses.

https://www.yahoo.com/gma/2-teenage-boys-shot-death-asking-man-tall-102656303--abc-news-topstories.html Two teenage boys were shot to death after asking the suspect how tall he was when they were buying candy from a store. The incident occurred at approximately 5 p.m. on Saturday June 20 after three teenage boys went to a store in South Chicago to buy some candy and ended up having a brief encounter with 19-year-old Laroy Battle inside the establishment. “The victims were walking into the store, they saw Battle, he was standing in line while at the store and the victims commented that Battle, he was quite tall, and they asked him how tall he was and hoped to be that tall someday,” said Deputy Chief of Detectives Brendan Deenihan “Unfortunately, we will never even see the full growth of these poor children.” The three teenage boys then left the store and proceeded to walk home together when police say that Battle approached them and began shooting.

https://www.msn.com/en-us/finance/markets/fed-reveals-bond-purchases-including-at-26t-unitedhealth-walmart/ar-BB164nx3 (Bloomberg) -- The Federal Reserve bought bonds issued by companies including AT&T Inc., UnitedHealth Group Inc. and Walmart Inc. as part of its emergency lending program set up in response to the pandemic, according to new disclosures. On June 16, the U.S. central bank began purchasing securities of individual issuers as part of a broad index it created to include companies that were eligible for the program. The disclosures, posted Sunday, showed that of the $207 million of purchases made on the first day of buying, about 21% were of debt issued by firms in the consumer non-cyclical sector, while 15% were of consumer cyclical debt and 10% were of technology debt. Issues rated below investment grade comprised 3.6% of the securities acquired. In a separate disclosure, the New York Fed released the composition of the broad index the central bank is using to conduct the purchases. Fed officials have said the goal of the buying is to maintain liquidity in the market for corporate debt, so that issuers are able to access capital despite the deep economic downturn created by the pandemic. The index is comprised of almost 800 issuers.

The “Lawful Access to Encrypted Data Act” announced Tuesday by Sens. Lindsey Graham (R-SC), Tom Cotton (R-AR), and Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), would compel hardware, software and services vendors to make your data unlockable with a search warrant. This bill would not just round up the usual Big Tech suspects that theoretically have the money to engineer its security-stripping demands. A copy posted by the Electronic Privacy Information Center, a Washington non-profit, reveals it would also cover: • any “consumer electronic device” with more than a gigabyte of storage and developed by a company that sold more than a million such gadgets in the U.S.; • any “remote computing service” provider or operating system vendor with more than a million subscribers or users in the U.S. in 2016 or onwards; • any communications service with more than a million active users a month in January 2016 or any more recent month.
