http://www.huffingtonpost.ca/2017/08/17/anti-nafta-protests-hit-mexico-as-government-fights-to-keep-trad_a_23080357/ What a mess. "The great loser in these last 23 years has been Mexico, above all, the small farmers," said Ernesto Ladron de Guevara, speaking for one peasant farmers union at a park across from Mexico's Foreign Ministry. His union is pushing for NAFTA's fate to face a public vote, possibly to coincide with next year's July presidential election and, if the deal survives, wants it to exclude anything related to agriculture and food production. Mexico now imports some $18.5 billion of agriculture products every year, making it one of the most important markets for U.S. farmers.

Yep, diappointed. https://www.yahoo.com/news/trump-vows-fight-afghanistan-offering-new-details-025336264.html After years of calling for a U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan, President Trump tried late Monday to rally the country behind an open-ended commitment to plunging as many as 4,000 additional U.S. troops into what is now America’s longest war. Trump acknowledged that Americans are “weary of war without victory” nearly 16 years after the conflict began. He promised that he shared their frustrations — even as he overrode them with imperatives he said he learned after taking office. But “a hasty withdrawal would create a vacuum terrorists, including ISIS and al-Qaida, would instantly fill,” giving them room to plot attacks like the Sept. 11, 2001, strikes, the president said.

You would be correct. Naval tradition holds to not name a vessel after one that has sunk, or one that may harbor bad influence/luck. Likewise, ships/vessel names should not have sinkable namesakes in their name. For example, a ship named "Leadbottom" is asking for disaster. Naval tradition is very superstitious this way. Consider the post by Swordsmyth that the ship took damage to her Port which incidently is McCains affected side.

https://www.wsj.com/articles/donald-trump-to-unveil-afghanistan-strategy-in-televised-address-monday-1503262674 President Donald Trump will give a nationally televised address Monday night to unveil his strategy for the long-running war in Afghanistan, the White House said, a plan expected to include sending as many as 4,000 more troops to the country. He’ll deliver the prime-time speech from Fort Myer in Arlington, Va., using the same sort of high-profile stage that his predecessor, Barack Obama, employed in laying out a new approach to the war in 2009. Mr. Obama delivered his speech before a national television audience at the U.S. Military Academy in West Point, N.Y., promising at the time to “bring this war to a successful conclusion.” I'm sure I'll be disappointed.

The Triffin Dilemma, Nixon Shock, and IMF SDR's. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Triffin_dilemma The Triffin dilemma or Triffin paradox is the conflict of economic interests that arises between short-term domestic and long-term international objectives for countries whose currencies serve as global reserve currencies. This dilemma was first identified in a 1929 book, Gold and Central Banks, by Polish economist Feliks Młynarski, who identified a fundamental instability in a gold-based international monetary system, that the reserve currency countries would tend to accumulate foreign reserves, but as the volume of these grew relative to the country's gold reserves, international investors would begin to fear suspension of convertibility; later in the 1960s, it was rediscovered in the context of the Bretton Woods system by Belgian-American economist Robert Triffin, who pointed out that the country whose currency, being the global reserve currency, foreign nations wish to hold, must be willing to supply the world with an extra supply of its currency to fulfill world demand for these foreign exchange reserves, thus leading to a trade deficit. Due to Młynarski's precedence in articulating the problem, Barry Eichengreen has suggested renaming the problem to "the Młynarski dilemma". The use of a national currency, such as the U.S. dollar, as global reserve currency leads to tension between its national and global monetary policy. This is reflected in fundamental imbalances in the balance of payments, specifically the current account, as some goals require an outflow of dollars from the United States, while others require an overall inflow. Specifically, the Triffin dilemma is usually cited to articulate the problems with the role of the U.S. dollar as the reserve currency under the Bretton Woods system. John Maynard Keynes had anticipated this difficulty and had advocated the use of a global reserve currency called "Bancor". Currently the IMF's SDRs are the closest thing to the proposed Bancor but they have not been adopted widely enough to replace the dollar as the global reserve currency.

https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/world/2017/08/08/war-afghanistan-trump-white-house-weighs-bold-plan-privatize/548004001/ The White House is actively considering a bold plan to turn over a big chunk of the U.S. war in Afghanistan to private contractors in an effort to turn the tide in a stalemated war, according to the former head of a security firm pushing the project. Under the proposal, 5,500 private contractors, primarily former Special Operations troops, would advise Afghan combat forces. The plan also includes a 90-plane private air force that would provide air support in the nearly 16-year-old war against Taliban insurgents, Erik Prince, founder of the Blackwater security firm, told USA TODAY. Prince said the plan will cost less than $10 billion a year, significantly lower than the more than $40 billion the Pentagon has budgeted this year

Start here: Bob Heghmann, 70, filed a lawsuit Thursday in U.S. District Court saying the national and Virginia Republican parties and some GOP leaders raised millions of dollars in campaign funds while knowing they weren’t going to be able to overturn the ACA, also known as Obamacare. A retired attorney in Virginia Beach is so incensed that Republicans couldn’t repeal the Affordable Care Act that he’s suing to get political donations back, accusing the GOP of fraud and racketeering.

From Drudge: https://pilotonline.com/news/government/politics/virginia/republican-donor-from-virginia-beach-sues-gop-accusing-the-party/article_f7e5e7ec-f6ad-5d09-90d5-29774701b0c2.html The GOP “has been engaged in a pattern of Racketeering which involves massive fraud perpetrated on Republican voters and contributors as well as some Independents and Democrats,” the suit said. Racketeering, perhaps better known for use in prosecuting organized crime, involves a pattern of illegal behavior by a specific group. The lawsuit lists as defendants the Republican National Committee and Virginia’s two national GOP committee members, Morton Blackwell and Cynthia Dunbar, as well as the Republican Party of Virginia and state party Chairman John Whitbeck. Buyer's remorse gone wild.

Today Venezuela votes. https://www.nytimes.com/2017/07/29/world/americas/venezuela-nicolas-maduro-constituent-assembly.html Under the rules of the vote, the constituent assembly would take the reins of the country within 72 hours of being officially certified, though it is unclear to most people what would happen after that. Some politicians have already suggested that governorships and mayors be replaced with “communal councils.” Top members of Mr. Maduro’s party have identified Luisa Ortega, the attorney general, who has criticized Mr. Maduro’s crackdown on protesters, as someone to be immediately dismissed. But many fear that a likely first step will be the abolition of the country’s legislature, a tactic first used by Mr. Chávez when rewriting the Constitution in 1999.

:) Citizens in other states wishing to see California leave NEED to get behind this. Contact your representatives and tell to vote in favor of it. As I understand it, if successful, it will ultimately need congressional approval so we need other states to help us leave. Don't blame me if outside states vote us to stay in.

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2017-07-23/venezuela-opposition-calls-for-48-hour-general-strike-next-week Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, defying a threat of U.S. sanctions and calls by his opponents for two days of general strikes this week, vowed to press on with a vote to elect a new national assembly and rewrite the constitution. “Who doesn’t go vote next Sunday is hurting the Republic of Venezuela, is hurting the right for peace, because what we are deciding here next week is between peace or war, violence or the constituent assembly,” according to a statement issued Sunday. Maduro reinforced his determination to hold the July 30 vote after Venezuela’s opposition party called for a 48-hour general strike in Caracas Wednesday and Thursday.
