https://finance.yahoo.com/news/bracing-biden-climate-rules-u-205618935.html WASHINGTON, Jan 19 (Reuters) - The U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the country's biggest and most influential business lobby group, shifted its position on climate change on Tuesday, saying Congress should pass laws pushing companies to limit greenhouse gas emissions. "The Chamber supports a market-based approach to accelerate GHG (greenhouse gas} emissions reductions across the U.S. economy," the trade group said in a statement. "We believe that durable climate policy must be made by Congress," the group said, adding that it should encourage investment in emission reductions, while avoiding harm to business, consumers and communities. The Chamber had long been an opponent of policies to put a price on carbon or mandate emission reduction cuts.

https://news.yahoo.com/guatemalan-security-forces-break-us-194807999.html Guatemalan security forces on Monday broke up a caravan of some 4,000 Honduran migrants trying to reach the United States on a journey of thousands of kilometers through Central America on foot, AFP reporters witnessed. Police advanced on the group in a coordinated move, striking batons against their shields to make an intimidating noise, prompting the migrants to scatter. The group was still on Guatemalan soil, and some regrouped to resume their quest for a better life further north. The caravan, which departed Honduras on Friday, has been held up since Saturday at the town of Vado Hondo in southeast Guatemala, some 50 kilometers (31 miles) inside the border.

https://apnews.com/article/joe-biden-donald-trump-politics-coronavirus-pandemic-ron-klain-4b1bf78136b2b12392dcc16a7e4aad7f The opening salvo would herald a 10-day blitz of executive actions as Biden seeks to act swiftly to redirect the country in the wake of Donald Trump’s presidency without waiting for Congress. On Wednesday, following his inauguration, Biden will end Trump’s restriction on immigration to the U.S. from some Muslim-majority countries, move to rejoin the Paris climate accord and mandate mask-wearing on federal property and during interstate travel. Those are among roughly a dozen actions Biden will take on his first day in the White House, his incoming chief of staff, Ron Klain, said in a memo to senior staff. Other actions include extending the pause on student loan payments and actions meant to prevent evictions and foreclosures for those struggling during the pandemic. “These executive actions will deliver relief to the millions of Americans that are struggling in the face of these crises,” Klain said in the memo. “President-elect Biden will take action — not just to reverse the gravest damages of the Trump administration — but also to start moving our country forward.”

https://apnews.com/article/mexico-11bf21a9a3cce149fb4b8bbc56366923 EL TERRERO, Mexico (AP) — In the birthplace of Mexico’s vigilante “self-defense” movement, a new group has emerged entirely made up of women, who carry assault rifles and post roadblocks to fend off what they say is a bloody incursion into the state of Michoacán by the violent Jalisco cartel. Some of the four dozen women warriors are pregnant; some carry their small children to the barricades with them. The rural area is traversed by dirt roads, through which they fear Jalisco gunmen could penetrate at a time when the homicide rate in Michoacán has spiked to levels not seen since 2013.
