Republicans on Capitol Hill say Donald Trump may be willing to cut Social Security and Medicare if he wins in 2020, reportedly describing the potential move as a “second-term project”. Several senators told the New York Times in a report published this week they spoke to the president about reducing the costs of the federal health care and retirement programs — a move that would likely stir controversy in a presidential election season. Republicans have said cutting both programs is crucial to reducing the nation’s deficit, which has ballooned under Mr Trump thanks, in part, to the GOP tax bill passed in 2017. Senator John Barrasso, a Republican from Wyoming, described the process of cutting the costs of social security and medicare to the New York Times as “best done during divided government”. “We’ve brought it up with President Trump,” he added, “who has talked about out it being a second-term project.” Senator John Thune, a Republican from South Dakota, also told the newspaper that reducing the costs of the federal programs would require “presidential leadership” and “courage by the Congress to make some hard votes”. “We can’t keep kicking the can down the road,” he said, adding: “I hope in a second term, is interested. With his leadership, I think we could start dealing with that crisis. And it is a crisis.” Senator David Perdue, a Republican from Georgia, told the paper “it probably takes a second-term president” to begin working on the issue, adding: “It’s politically difficult to say you’re going to save Social Security, because most people think, well that means cutting benefits.”

Christian videographers will not be forced to produce videos of same-sex weddings. Earlier today, the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals upheld the constitutional order, limited the reach of expansive nondiscrimination laws, and protected a Christian couple from having to choose between their business and their conscience. The facts of the case are simple. The plaintiffs, Carl and Angel Larsen, are videographers who create “commercials, short films, and live-event productions.” While they work with anyone of any race, sex, sexual orientation, or religion, they will not produce videos that advance viewpoints that violate their Christian beliefs. That includes videos that “contradict biblical truth; promote sexual immorality; support the destruction of unborn children; promote racism or racial division; incite violence; degrade women; or promote any conception of marriage other than as a lifelong institution between one man and one woman.” The Larsens hoped to begin producing wedding videos, but Minnesota interpreted its human-rights act to require them to “produce both opposite-sex- and same-sex-wedding videos, or none at all.” Minnesota would also require them to produce videos that depicted “same- and opposite-sex weddings in an equally ‘positive’ light.” This raised the possibility that a gay couple who didn’t like the subjective quality of a video the Larsens produced for them could seek state sanctions based on alleged sexual-orientation discrimination. With the assistance of my friends and former colleagues at the Alliance Defending Freedom, the Larsens filed suit, claiming that Minnesota’s rule would compel them to speak in support of messages they oppose. The trial court ruled in favor of the state, and the Larsens appealed.

A review of the Department of the Navy’s legal system has expanded to include the Marine legal community, according to a memo from Secretary of the Navy Richard V. Spencer obtained by USNI News. “Secretary of the Navy Richard V. Spencer, in full coordination with the commandant of the Marine Corps, has directed an expansion of the U.S. Navy’s comprehensive review of the Judge Advocate General Corps to include U.S. Marine Corps Judge Advocates,” read a Thursday Navy statement to USNI News. “There is value in applying this review and its subsequent recommendations across the Department of the Navy. The review’s purpose is to confirm the uniformed legal community is structurally and organizationally sound and best supporting the good order and discipline our integrated naval force.” According to a copy of the memo, “these reviews are intended to ensure the Navy JAG and the Marine Corps SJA legal communities are organized, manned, trained and equipped to support the Department’s mission.” More at: https://news.usni.org/2019/08/22/secnav-spencer-expanding-jag-review-to-include-marine-legal-community

A Chicago judge appointed a special prosecutor on Friday morning to lead the investigation into the handling of the Jussie Smollett case. Cook County Judge Michael Toomin appointed former U.S. Attorney Dan Webb to the position to investigate the way the case was handled — specifically, why the 16 criminal charges against Smollett were dropped and to potentially reinstate the charges or even add additional charges against Smollett. "Webb gained prominence for his lead role during the Operation Greylord investigations into judicial corruption in Cook County," Fox 32 reported. "He served as special counsel in the Iran-Contra affair and was previously appointed by Judge Toomin in the death of David Koschman." I'm not calling you anything. Ron Paul's position in 2008 was to bring the troops home and use them to guard the nation's border, as required by the constitution. I supported that position then, I support it now, even more, as it's become clear the hysterical Bolshevik and Jacobin left is whipping itself into a genocidal frenzy with me and my children as the primary target. Nowhere have I seen Trump call for positioning the militia, organized and un-organized, along the border. Which indicates to me he is no more serious about stopping this invasion than anybody else is.

You sure did. There aren't any. That's why this invasion is so successful. No tanks, no bombs, no guns, no soldiers, no artillery. Just wave after wave of people that do not care what or who was here before and armed with nothing but damnable pity and "Christian" charity.

Swordsmyth replied to a thread Mexico. in World News & Affairs
Mexico registered zero economic growth in the second quarter, according to revised data released Friday, meaning that Latin America's second-biggest economy dodged a recession even more narrowly than previously thought. "Gross domestic product (GDP)... registered no change in real terms in the second quarter of 2019," Mexico's official statistics institute, INEGI, said in a statement. INEGI had initially said in July that GDP expanded by 0.1 percent in the period from April to June. That puny-but-positive figure at least indicated the economy had returned to growth, after shrinking in the first quarter of the year. Friday's revised figure, on the other hand, is a fresh bit of bad news for Mexico and President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, an anti-establishment leftist who took office in December promising to kick-start the economy, among other things. He has not gotten off to an encouraging start: the economy shrank by 0.2 percent in the first quarter, raising the specter of a recession -- two or more consecutive quarters of economic contraction -- just months into Lopez Obrador's term. Political beliefs are a subset of culture and the most important part, you denying it won't make it not true. You are just one of many open borders supporters here who deny it but you constantly oppose any border security or immigration control and demand that any unlimited number of people be allowed to come here in direct opposition to Ron.

TRUMP MEETING WITH HIS TRADE AIDES NOW, CNBC REPORTS ... to decide what additional measures and tariffs to declare against China, and if there is one currency that Trump's economic team is currently keeping an eye on it is China's yuan. What said team is seeing is nothing short of carnage, because - somewhat paradoxically - even as the Bloomberg dollar index is plunging ever since Trump unleashed his tirade targeting China for daring to retaliate to US tariffs, the offshore yuan is plunging even more, tumbling below 7.13 - a new 11.5 year low - in what the White House can correctly interpret as official intervention to weaken the currency which should be rising against the greenback, yet is doing precisely the opposite.

Our culture is dominated by liberty leaning beliefs and it used to be even more so until traitors allowed and encouraged excessive immigration from anti-liberty cultures. We can't read people's minds so we have to limit how many people from anti-liberty cultures are allowed to come here so they don't overwhelm our culture and destroy liberty. Ron knows that, that's why he said allowing 60 Million people to come here would be insanity. Liberty is a group question because it is a relationship between people so until you develop a mind reading machine we must deal with groups when preserving it from enemies.

Spencer Kuvin, who works as a lawyer for victims of deceased sexual predator Jeffrey Epstein, believes that Epstein’s death was likely the resulf of a murder after speaking at length with a whistle-blower from inside the Metropolitan Correctional Center. Kuvin is basing his assessment off of tips he has received from an anonymous prison worker who told him it was “highly unlikely” that the Democrat-affiliated child sex trafficker took his own life. Kuvin claims the prison worker told him that “every square inch” of the cells where Epstein was held before he died were being recorded by CCTV, making the fact that there is no video record of Epstein’s death a huge red flag. The anonymous prison guard’s intimate knowledge of the jail convinced Kuvin of his legitimacy, and he listened to the man further as he described how Epstein’s suicide would be practically impossible. “He told me how the SHU (special housing unit) where Mr. Epstein was kept was basically designed to be a jail within the jail. And then there was a separate, even more secure unit, inside the SHU where the highest value targets were kept,” Kuvin said. “He said every square inch of that place is covered by cameras. It was designed that way because of super high value targets that are kept there such as terrorists, drug dealers and other extremely high value targets or suspects like Mr. Epstein,” he added. “If reports that there is no CCTV are true – it would mean that they’d either shut the cameras off or they were not functioning in some way. He says there’s no way that they would not have been able to see what was going on,” Kuvin stated. The fact that Epstein was removed from suicide watch and his cell mate was transferred so Epstein would be alone shortly before he died are two other red flags that show that it was not likely that Epstein committed suicide.
