MintPress: How a NeoCon-Backed “Fact Checker” Plans to Wage War on Independent Media Soon after the social media “purge” of independent media sites and pages this past October, a top neoconservative insider — Jamie Fly — was caught stating that the mass deletion of anti-establishment and anti-war pages on Facebook and Twitter was “just the beginning” of a concerted effort by the U.S. government and powerful corporations to silence online dissent within the United States and beyond. … neoconservatives and other standard bearers of the military-industrial complex and the U.S. oligarchy are now poised to let loose their latest digital offensive against independent media outlets … MintPress was informed that it was under review by an organization called Newsguard Technologies and asked Muhawesh to comment on a series of allegations, several of which were blatantly untrue. However, further examination of this organization reveals that it is funded by and deeply connected to the U.S. government, neo-conservatives, and powerful moneyed interests, all of whom have been working overtime since the 2016 election to silence dissent to American forever-wars and corporate-led oligarchy. More troubling still, Newsguard — by virtue of its deep connections to government and Silicon Valley — is lobbying to have its rankings of news sites installed by default on computers in U.S. public libraries, schools, and universities as well as on all smartphones and computers sold in the United States. … as Newsguard’s project advances, it will soon become almost impossible to avoid this neocon-approved news site’s ranking systems on any technological device sold in the United States. …

Dead Bodies at Ed Buck's For the second time in 18 months, a dead body has been found at the home of Ed Buck, a prominent LA-based Democratic donor … Buck's attorney said the deceased was an old friend of Buck's who died of an overdose after ingesting drugs at another location. … Buck was home at the time the man died. While the circumstances of the latest death aren't entirely known, the previous death, which occurred in July 2017, was that of a 26-year-old man who had been working as a prostitute when he died of a methamphetamine overdose in Buck’s apartment. The man, Gemmel Moore, was homeless at the time - but he was flown from Houston to LA by Buck on the day that he overdosed. Months later, the LA Times reportedly reviewed Moore's journals, where he wrote about how Buck introduced him to crystal meth, and even worried that his addiction might kill him.

Lessons from Covington Catholic flap a picture of a high school kid supposedly harassing an old Indian guy beating a drum was, "Why is this image newsworthy?" The image was newsworthy because the left shapes the news. High school kids harass their elders on a daily basis. Even if the Covington kid was guilty as accused, other kids throughout America were doing worse things to old people … mugging them, punching them, maybe even killing them. Even if caught on video, the media would not show these incidents unless the left found them politically useful. … This framing of the news has gone on for more than fifty years. … the Washington Post, CNN, and the rest were prepared to ruin the lives of some adolescents, who had come to Washington to march for life, to score a cheap political point. …

A Tale of Two Walls The demand of President Donald Trump that congress should appropriate money to build a wall securing the nation’s southern border has resulted in the longest federal government shutdown in history … The generally “progressive” view is that there is no border threat at all … The alternative viewpoint, which has a much broader bipartisan constituency, consists of those who do feel that border security is a national priority but are nevertheless critical of building a wall, which will be expensive … They prefer other options … Democratic Presidents including Bill Clinton and Barack Obama when campaigning have called for better border security, as have Democratic Congressional leaders who are now smelling blood and attacking Trump for seeking to do what they have long at least theoretically sought. … many of the Democrats who are currently criticizing the southern border wall on moral grounds have failed to apply the same standard to another infamous wall, that which is being built by Israel. Israel’s “separation wall” is arguably being constructed at least in part using “aid” and charitable money provided by Washington while also being enabled politically by the U.S. government’s acquiescence to the Israeli violations of international law. And if the moral argument for not having a wall to aid suffering refugees has any meaning, it would be many times more so applied to the Israeli wall, which is an instrument in the maintenance of apartheid in areas under Israeli control while also making permanent the stateless status of the more than one million Palestinian refugees … The Israeli wall is at many points larger and more intimidating than that planned by Trump, and it is also designed to physically and economically devastate the Palestinian population adjacent to it. …

But no amount of debt or destruction is too great for empire - $trillions here and $trillions there for empire. But $5 billion in crumbs for border security - now that's something to fight over - even "shut down" the government (ha ha). Just so long as the empire keeps rolling along. 18 years of occupation of Afghanistan deserves unlimited expense. 28 years of continuous hostile military aggression against Iraq - just ignore it. Obliterating Libya; Converting Ukraine into a basket case; manufacturing a terrorist Army to wreak havoc on Syria; Economic blockades against Iran, N Korea; attempted but failed economic blockade of Russia; trade war with China, kidnapping its business leaders; sanctioning closest allies sabotaging their banks and businesses for not following Washington commands; wreaking havoc on the lives of millions - these are the things that are worth unlimited debt and theft and economic destruction. A $trillion here and a $trillion there in foreign entanglements in the midst of a nation destroying debt in an unstoppable slow motion economic collapse requires some good PR distraction. So, of course "shut down" the government over $5 billion in crumbs for border security fence.

So the very first bill the supposedly "conservative" GOP Senate finds most important to present, and in the midst of a government shutdown no less, proffered by ignoble Marco Rubio (R-Israel), is to burn the first amendment and impose censorship on behalf of a foreign government. The founders must be rolling in their graves. They would have tarred and feathered the statist foreign agent Marco Rubio. On top of that the Democrats, in the midst of record breaking deficits and a nation destroying national debt, found it in the hearts to fund a $38 billion welfare package for a foreign government, enabling it to build concentration zone walls on land it does not even own, but not a cent for US border wall. What hypocrisy! Where was the Democrat shutdown over walls during the $38 billion Israel welfare package?

Trump quotes Judge Andrew Napolitano on FBI corruption - 1087700192864944128 “One is easy to get. One is difficult to get. When the FBI can’t get the more difficult one they get the easy one. And that has corrupted them. And that has enabled them to gather evidence by unconstitutional means and that’s what they did to the president.” Napolitano ... "it’s easy to get a search warrant from the FISA court as opposed to a regular sitting federal judge where the standard is one of the Constitution. Under the Constitution to get a search warrant, to listen to somebody’s phone calls, to look at their mail, to follow them, you have to have probable cause of crime. A very high standard. You have to show evidence. Not a dossier, but actual evidence to a judge.”

MSM Begs For Trust After Buzzfeed Debacle Following what the Washington Post has described as “the highest-profile misstep yet for a news organization during a period of heightened and intense scrutiny of the press,” mass media representatives are now flailing desperately for an argument as to why people should continue to place their trust in mainstream news outlets. … the print New York Times covered the Buzzfeed report on its front page when the story broke, but the report on Mueller’s correction the next day was shoved back to page 11. This appalling journalistic malpractice makes it very funny that NYT’s Wajahat Ali had the gall to tweet, “Unlike the Trump administration, journalists are fact checking and willing to correct the record if the Buzzfeed story is found inaccurate. Not really the actions of a deep state and enemy of the people, right?” This is the behavior of a media class that is interested in selling narratives, not reporting truth. And yet the mass media talking heads are all telling us today that we must continue to trust them. … “The larger message that a lot of people are going to take from this story is that the news media are a bunch of leftist liars who are dying to get the president, and they’re willing to lie to do it, …” said Jeffrey Toobin on a CNN panel, … “It does reinforce bad stereotypes about the news media,” said Brian Stelter on the same CNN panel. …
