Opposition parties in Mexico's Senate are refusing to provide the necessary two-thirds support to approve President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador's nominees for the Energy Regulatory Commission (CRE), La Politica Online reported March 21. Withholding support for Lopez Obrador's nominees remains the only tool for Mexico's opposition to pressure the president into modifying or entirely abandoning his proposed referendum reform. President Donald Trump has asked the former economic advisor to his campaign, economist and writer Stephen Moore, if he would accept a nomination to the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve. There are two openings on the board, and Moore would fill one of them. Moore’s resume is imressive. A graduate of George Mason University with a degree in economics, Moore spent 10 years as a fellow at the libertarian think tank Cato Institute. He founded and served as president of the Club for Growth, resigning from the group in 2004. He was on the editorial board of the Wall Street Journal and then took a position with the Heritage Foundation as its chief economist. He now serves the Heritage Foundation as a distinguished visiting fellow. These positions have given him the opportunity to write frequently for the Journal as well as the Washington Times, the Weekly Standard, and National Review. He has not been kind to the Fed when given a chance to write about its recent policy decisions. The day that the Fed raised interest rates last December, Moore let fly. In an interview with the Gateway Pundit, he unloaded on the Fed’s Board of Governors chaired by Jerome Powell: In one of the most remarkable Abbott and Costello routines in modern times, the economic wizards at the Fed again raised interest rates on Tuesday. Their Cracker Jack logic for doing so is to steer America on a course toward recession so they have the tools in hand to end the recession that THEY themselves created. Can anyone tell us who’s on first? Worse, this Fed move doubles down on its blunderous interest rate rise in September. President Trump turned out to be exactly right: the central bank’s pull back on money would slow growth and crush the stock market in order to combat nonexistent inflation. The Fed’s policies of raising interest to fight the spectre of incipient inflation and continuing to offload some of its vast holdings of government securities served as a double-whammy on Trump’s economy. Moore explained: The Fed had already reduced the monetary thrust that it provides to the economy eight times since December 15, 2015, by raising its Fed Funds interest rate from 0.25% to 2.25%. Each time, the Fed claimed that it needed to guard our economic airliner from inflationary “overheating” — as if its job is to prevent too many people from working and making sure that pay checks aren’t rising too quickly. Unfortunately, if you cut engine power too far on a jetliner, it will stall and drop out of the sky.

Unity is impossible, too many people want to enslave others. Anarchy fails for the same reason communism fails, it requires a new breed of perfected men and it tries to pretend that it already has one.

The Southern Poverty Law Center was long ago exposed as money-making scam. It has amassed almost half-a-billion dollars fighting an imaginary tide of “hate” that is ever “rising,” which provides the twin benefits of bringing in that money and advancing the totalitarian goals of the radical Left. Topping that agenda is demonizing any opposition to the Left as “hate,” be it racism, homophobia, transphobia, and Islamophobia. But last week, the discredited group fired its co-founder, Morris Dees, a shocker in the “civil rights community” that opened the door to discussing exactly who Dees is and what goes on at SPLC, also called the Poverty Palace. Former SPLC staff member Bob Moser took to the New Yorker yesterday to elaborate on what we’ve known for some time: The SPLC is, again, a money-making scam. But he revealed that truth from the inside. Until Justice Rolls Down Like Dollars A detailed report in the Los Angeles Times explained that SPLC fired Dees likely because of the long-term abuse of women and blacks at the organization. Stephen Bright, a Yale law professor and former director of the Southern Center for Human Rights in Atlanta, told the Times that SPLC’s fundraising is “fraudulent,” and called Dees a “flimflam man and he’s managed to flimflam his way along for many years raising money by telling people about the Ku Klux Klan and hate groups,” he said. “He sort of goes to whatever will sell and has, of course, brought in millions and millions and millions of dollars.” The flim-flam man’s career is officially over, and Moser offers a few insights that open with an amusing but telling vignette: I’ve been thinking about the jokes my S.P.L.C. colleagues and I used to tell to keep ourselves sane. Walking to lunch past the center’s Maya Lin-designed memorial to civil-rights martyrs, we’d cast a glance at the inscription from Martin Luther King, Jr., etched into the black marble — “Until justice rolls down like waters”— and intone, in our deepest voices, “Until justice rolls down like dollars.” The Law Center had a way of turning idealists into cynics.

The Arms (Military Style Semi-automatic Firearms) Order 2019 essentially bans all semi-automatic firerams that are capable of using a detachable magazine that can hold more than five rounds of ammunition. Ardern immediately began pushing for even more extreme gun control measures following last week's deadly attack, declaring that the nation would change its gun laws. On Thursday, Ardern appeared to take her comments even further, saying at a press conference: In the meantime, we are asking all current holders of military-style semi-automatic weapons and assault rifles to visit www.police.govt.nz. There they will find details of the weapons included in this ban. In the next 48 hours, a form will be available on this site that we are asking these gun owners to complete, identifying what banned guns they hold. The police will then arrange for these weapons to be handed over, and eventually destroyed. Details of the weapons handed back by owners that are covered by the ban will also be taken to ensure that fair and reasonable compensation is paid once the buyback is in place. If owners are unable to complete the online form, they are able to contact the police on the phone to arrange the handover of these now-banned guns... ...As the legislation is developed, we will determine the time available for the return of military-style semi-automatic weapons and assault rifles, and the duration of the buyback scheme. I can assure people that there will be time for the returns to be made, and that they will not be criminalized overnight. After a reasonable period for returns, those who continue to possess these guns will be in contravention of the law. Currently, the penalties for this range from fines of up to $4,000 and or three years in prison. The draft legislation will look to increase these penalties. Moments later, Ardern added: "But be assured, this is just the beginning of the work we need to do."

Just nine days before the FBI applied for a Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) warrant to surveil a top Trump campaign aide, bureau officials were battling with a senior Justice Department official who had "continued concerns" about the "possible bias" of a source pivotal to the application, according to internal text messages obtained by Fox News. The 2016 messages, sent between former FBI lawyer Lisa Page and then-FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe, also reveal that bureau brass circulated at least two anti-Trump blog articles, including a Lawfare blog post sent shortly after Election Day that called Trump possibly "among the major threats to the security of the country." COMEY ADMITS FBI 'DIDN'T KNOW WHETHER WE HAD ANYTHING' ON TRUMP WHEN HE WAS FIRED AS FBI DIRECTOR IN 2017 Another article, sent by Page in July 2016 as the FBI's counterintelligence probe into Russian election interference was kicking off, flatly called Trump a "useful idiot" for Russian President Vladimir Putin. Page told McCabe that then-FBI Director James Comey had "surely" read that piece. Both articles were authored in whole or part by Benjamin Wittes, a Comey friend. Further, the texts show that on Sept. 12, 2016, Page forwarded to McCabe some "unsolicited comments" calling then-GOP Rep. Trey Gowdy a "total d--k." Gowdy, at the time, was grilling FBI congressional affairs director Jason Herring at a hearing on the FBI's handling of the Clinton email investigation. But perhaps the most significant Page-McCabe communications made plain the DOJ's worries that the FISA application to surveil Trump aide Carter Page was based on a potentially biased source -- and underscored the FBI's desire to press on. Fox News is told the texts were connected to the ultimately successful Page application, which relied in part on information from British ex-spy Christopher Steele – whose anti-Trump views are now well-documented – and cited Page’s suspected Russia ties. In its warrant application, the FBI assured the FISA court on numerous occasions that other sources independently corroborated Steele's claims but did not clearly state that Steele worked for a firm hired by Hillary Clinton's campaign. Carter Page has not been charged with any wrongdoing despite more than a year of federal surveillance, and he has since sued numerous actors -- including the Democratic National Committee (DNC) -- for defamation related to claims that he worked with Russia.

The move was reportedly prompted by the perceived threats to coal mine projects in the China Pakistan Economic Corridor which have been facing stiff resistance from locals in Pakistan. China is reportedly unhappy over the Pakistani Army’s alleged inability to ensure the safety of the project despite repeated assurances. New Delhi (Sputnik): China has deployed a contingent of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) to the Thar region of Sindh province in Pakistan which is about 90 kilometers away from Pakistan’s international border with India. Indian television channel Zee News quoted a senior intelligence officer saying that Indian forces had noticed the movement of Chinese troops close to the border. “The Border Security Force (of India) deployed at the India-Pakistan border has also noticed the movement of Chinese troops close to the border. It seems that due to the opposition of Chinese projects by locals in Sindh and Balochistan provinces, China has deployed its PLA,” the intelligence officer told Zee News. A former Indian Army official is of the view that the development is, however, a matter of concern to India. “Officially, the deployment of troops by China is to protect their own citizens working in Pakistan in various projects and also to secure the safety of the CPEC from local people. But unofficially, it is the commencement of a military base in the interiors of the country (Pakistan). It could also be perceived to be a sort of restriction on India in case it attempts a military option against Pakistan. Although India would never go this deep inside Pakistan, but in the long run, the Chinese PLA could also be deployed much closer to our border. Finally, it signals the growing proximity between China and Pakistan and interdependence. No nation in its right senses would permit such a deployment,” Major General (Retired) Harsha Kakar told Sputnik.

According to Nathan Josiah of Gun Owners of America, Constitutional Carry bill (HB 357) is languishing in the State House. Constitutional Carry (HB 357), introduced by pro-gun Champion Jonathan Stickland, would restore the gun rights of law-abiding Texans by removing the permit to carry a concealed firearm. At first glance, it looks like Texas leadership, including Speaker Dennis Bonnen, does not want to prioritize Constitutional Carry or any legislation that drastically advances the gun rights of Texans. HB 357 was originally assigned to the Homeland Security and Public Safety committee on February 22, 2019. Curiously, Speaker of the House Dennis Bonnen named seasoned anti-gun Democrat Poncho Nevarez as the chair of the Homeland Security Committee. This move has rightfully earned Bonnen flack from pro-gun organizations such as Lone Star Gun Rights, who were “not surprised” by Bonnen’s decision. As expected, Nevarez has been promising for weeks that the bill will be receiving a hearing “soon”. Now the Chairman of Homeland Security Committee announced that HB 357 will receive a hearing likely in April. Because of House deadlines and the quickly approaching May 27 session end date, Constitutional Carry appears to be on “life support” in Texas according to Nathan Josiah. On top of that, there is no companion bill in the Texas Senate. Although Bonnen is not the main culprit behind Constitutional Carry’s lack of traction, Justin Delosh, the co-Founder and Legislative Director of Lone Star Gun Rights, said that Bonnen is still “the guy that could get Constitutional Carry moving”. Delosh pointed out as well that Bonnen is also capable of placing “roadblocks” on Constitutional Carry. One of these roadblocks is Bonnen’s appointment of anti-gun Democrat Poncho Nevarez to the Homeland Security Committee. In Delosh’s view, Nevarez will be used as a “strawman” by Bonnen in the case that pro-gun legislation like Constitutional Carry dies in committee. This way, Bonnen gets political cover for not letting Constitutional Carry legislation through and he can just pin the blame on Nevarez, who he ironically put in power in the first place.

The White House announced on Friday that all of ISIS caliphate territory in Syria has been “100 percent eliminated”. Spokeswoman Sarah Sanders confirmed in a press briefing that President Trump had been notified and briefed by US Acting Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan while en route to Florida aboard Air Force One. Sanders confidently told reporters that ISIS' "territorial caliphate has been eliminated in Syria." US-backed SDF forces have for the past weeks been waging a fierce battle on Baghouz camp, which US coalition statements have described as the last holdout to the "most hardened" ISIS militants, numbering in the hundreds, in Abu Kamal District of Deir Ezzor governate near the Iraqi border. On Friday, en route to Florida aboard Air Force One, White House press secretary Sarah Sanders announced that ISIS' "territorial caliphate has been eliminated in Syria." Sanders showed reporters a before-and-after map of Syria, indicating that ISIS no longer controlled any territory. — NPR Previously in the week on Wednesday, Trump said that this last tiny ISIS enclave would be “gone by tonight.” Soon following this, reports indicated that the US-backed SDF “liberated all of Baghouz from the ISIS mercenaries”. At a speech before a Conservative Political Action Conference Trump had noted that administration officials would make the announcement “probably today or tomorrow” that “we will actually have 100 percent of the caliphate in Syria.” “The caliphate is gone, as of tonight," Trump said, and added, “Pretty good. That’s pretty good, right?”

After five days of the nation being captivated by dramatic images of flames and smoke plumes hovering above the Houston area from the Deer Park petrochemical fire, which had initially triggered an emergency shelter-in-place order from city authorities when it began last Sunday, firefighters had finally extinguished the raging inferno on Thursday. But the Intercontinental Terminals Co. (ITC) chemical storage complex has again reignited late Friday afternoon, which once more sent a massive black cloud into the sky, reportedly visible from 20 miles away, and again potentially exposing residents to dangerous airborne chemicals as well as leaks into nearby waterways. Harris Country officials now say multiple tank fires are once again raging uncontrolled, at two separate sections of the Houston area disaster site. Deer Park's office of emergency management called the new smoke plume a "flare up" as part of "a developing incident." "The City of Deer Park is not issuing a Shelter-in-Place order at this time but we are monitoring the situation," the emergency management official said. Fire reignites at ITC in Deer Park. Benzene is a known carcinogen which can cause devastating health effects based on various levels of exposure. Residents have become increasingly anxious over what the Houston Chronicle describes as "volatile compounds sitting in damaged tanks at the petroleum storage facility or streaming into nearby waterways."

While Iranian customers have started negotiations with the U.S. on possible waiver extensions to continue buying oil from Tehran, Iran’s oil exports so far in March are down from January and February to average around 1 million bpd-1.1 million bpd, Reuters reported on Thursday, citing industry sources and ship-tracking data. This compares to around 1.3 million bpd estimated Iranian exports for February. The U.S. waivers for eight key Iranian oil customers, including China, India, Japan, and South Korea, expire in early May. While the U.S. Administration says that it continues to pursue zero Iranian oil exports, analysts expect Washington to extend waivers to at least a few of the currently exempted buyers, with reduced volumes allowed under the new waivers, as the Administration wouldn’t want to push oil prices too high. In January and February this year, Iranian crude oil exports were higher than expected, as several of Iran’s customers were using up their U.S. sanction waivers to continue importing Iranian oil, according to industry sources and shipping data, quoted by Reuters 10 days before the end of February. According to tanker-tracking data from Refinitiv Eikon and a source at a company tracking Iranian oil flows, Iran’s exports in February averaged 1.25 million bpd, while the January exports were between 1.1 million bpd and 1.3 million bpd, higher than the previously expected below 1-million-bpd level, which was seen in December. Swordsmyth replied to a thread Mexico. in World News & Affairs
The Mexican government plans to use money from a public income stabilization fund to help reduce the sizeable debt pile that state energy major Pemex has accumulated. Reuters reports, quoting the country’s deputy finance minister, that the fund is worth US$15.4 billion and the government plans to make it “counter cyclical.” “We’d like to design it as a counter cyclical fund, like the copper funds in Chile are designed, where the resources are used not when the government wants to, but when the economy makes them necessary... In times of abundance, you put money into these resources,” Arturo Herrera said, adding “As a second part of the fund, we’d like to use it to pay some of the debt obligations that Pemex has.” The state company has around US$16 billion in bond payments due by the end of 2020, but its total debt is over US$100 billion. In an effort to slim this down, earlier this year the Obrador administration said it would inject US$3.6 billion into the company in the form of debt refinancing and tax cuts. The injection should also help Pemex boost local oil and gas production as a means of improving revenues and income despite a suspension of new oil and gas block tenders while the administration reviews the contracts the Pena-Nieto government signed with foreign oil companies in a bid to reverse a consistent decline in production. The Swedish Government will be opening up country's doors and offering asylum to an estimated 11 million of China's persecuted Uyghur Muslims, potentially doubling Sweden's population. Swedish Migration Board made the decision this week, which would allow Chinese Islamic Uyghurs, or Uighurs, to claim asylum in Sweden by easing up the regulations to guarantee entry. The board decided that all persecuted Muslims would be welcome, Swedish broadcaster Sveriges Radio reports, despite the number of potential asylum seekers being larger than Sweden's current population, which is estimated to be about 10.2 million people. Since the 2015 migrant crisis in Europe, Sweden has already taken large numbers of refugees. Long known for its tolerance and quality of life, the Scandinavian country has recently seen an alarming rise in gang violence, sexual assault, and terrorism–most of it linked to a large and unassimilated Muslim minority. Integration policies for the immigration influx are already seemingly failing, with major cities, including Malmö and Stockholm, having so-called "no-go zones," or "vulnerable areas" as authorities call them, due to the high levels of violent crimes. In 2015, Sweden took in only a fraction of a million people, around 163,000 asylum claims, which amounted to a cost of around 600 billion Swedish kronor ($60.58 billion), or 14 times the annual defense budget.
