A Louisiana law enforcement officer was sentenced on Friday to 40 years in prison a week after a jury convicted him of manslaughter in the shooting death of a six-year-old boy with autism. Derrick Stafford, 33, was convicted in the November 2015 shooting that killed Jeremy Mardis and critically wounded his father after a two-mile car chase in Marksville. Norris Greenhouse Jr. pleaded guilty Friday, September 29 in an Avoyelles Parish courtroom to negligent homicide and malfeasance in office to avoid trial in the shooting death of Jeremy Mardis. According to a plea deal, he will be sentenced to 5 years on the negligent homicide charge and 2.5 years for malfeasance. The sentences are to run consecutively, meaning he will serve the sentences back-to-back for a total of 7.5 years.

Rand Paul alone has done more than the Libertarian party ever has in my opinion. The best path forward seems obvious to me. While the Marxists are dividing themselves in the Democrat party, libertarians should work like Rand to advance limited government ideals within the Republican party. Bill Kristol and his ilk are weakened and should be completely pushed out of the Republican party and back to the Democrat party from whence they came. Many Republican voters that very recently nominated John McCain now see him as a traitor when it came to killing Obamacare. The GOP has been moved away from the neocons and more of that is what we need. I see the best path as remaking the GOP as much as possible to be a conservative alternative to the Marxist party. Unfortunately the reality is that America is a 2 party nation. Given this reality and the fact that the Democrat party is publicly dedicated to communism, there is only 1 viable alternative. It seems to me the best choice is to work on making the GOP adhere to the small government philosophy that the party stands for on paper.

Not at all. Bill Kristol doesn't support Amash, he supports the undermining of Trump. Kristol probably despises everything Amash stands for, as well as all other libertarians. The thing is that Amash is useful to the mission of Kristol. Amash is a nobody representative from a nothing district in MI and is only 1 out of 435 representatives. Bill Kristol and his gang don't care about Michigan's 3rd congressional district. The power is in the White House and the neocons desperately want to re-establish their influence and prominence. This makes Amash useful as a tool. I can assure you that Bill Kristol has no love for any libertarians, you me or Amash. Now you might think to yourself that John Bolton proves that Trump and the neocons are on the same page. If that were the case, Bill Kristol wouldn't be bitching about Trump. Does Trump employ Bolton to get his opinions? Yes. Trump hires a wide variety of advisors from various backgrounds so he can see all angles of situations. He has always done this, well before politics. It is part of his decision making process. Trumps listen to all points of views first and then makes his own decisions last, and he is the final decider. He trusts his own judgement above all others, but wants maximum information.

Kristol's game is simple, to push the GOP back to being a liberal party like it was under Bush. Kristol is not a conservative. He and his neocon friends want Jeb! and others like him leading the GOP. Trump is the enemy of the establishment liberal Republicans. Kristol is a conservative in the same way that Ana Navarro is a conservative or Jennifer Rubin is a conservative. These people are liberals that want the GOP to be a liberal party. Even though Trump is a former Democrat, he is still to the right of these neocons Marxists. Mostly they hate that he isn't on board with their globalist agenda and puts America first.

While I don't want to see people burning flags, I oppose any effort to ban flag burning. In my mind the flag stand for the strength and freedom that is America and that means the freedom to burn flags. If flag burning is banned, then the flag loses it's meaning.

First off, stop trusting the media. They don't report news or facts, they craft news and propaganda to shape thought. When taxes are cut, they positively affect people that pay taxes, regardless of whether they are capitalist, socialist or any other political/economic system they subscribe to. Having less of your paycheck taken from you by the government doesn't equal higher wages, it equals more net pay. The better questions is, who will be a better steward of where those dollars are spent, government workers or the person that earned them?

Are you asking if I think big govt and welfare socialism can be harnessed to benefit liberty? If that is your question, my answer is no. There certainly are choices we can make under such circumstances and some choices are better than others for liberty. Small government > BIG GOVT Low taxes > welfare state capitalism > socialism I do however appreciate having a president that publicly declares the media as fake. The more people that learn the truth of fake news the better. When have you ever seen a president say such things?

I agree. There is plenty for me to disagree with Trump on, but the tax cuts, reduced regulation and appointed judges all help advanced liberty. For me Trumps positives so far out-weigh his negatives. Trump actually gets things done, libertarians for the most part don't get things done. We need tangible results, not just great ideas on paper. Destroying "Democracy" as liberals like to put it is exactly what is needed when you realize that Democracy is the scam of their Marxism. The U.S. was founded as a Republic and it needs to be protected from communists that want to live in a socialist democracy.

This I agree with. I think the best plan is to find common ground and work with other branches of the Republican party. Meanwhile the Democrat party can tear itself apart while the socialists fight with the liberals.

Are you not aware of Ron Paul's journey from the GOP to the Libertarian party and back to the GOP? You can leave if you want to, but I won't be following you. It is clear to me that the ONLY path to advance libertarian ideas through the GOP. As messed up as the GOP is, it is the best option available. Rand Paul has the right idea and we need more of that (and less Amash stupidity).

Ron Paul unfortunately would get chewed up even more than Trump is. If there is only one take away from these last 3 year, it is that the establishment will break any law in their quest to keep power. I don't think Dr. Paul would be able to fight hard enough. Ron Paul is a much nicer guy than Trump and he would be destroyed because of it.

I disagree with you. I think the bulk of Republican voters now will call him a liberal and tune him out. The exposure he has gotten is negative with regards to Republican voters. The problem with this concept is that Democrat voters don't support the 4th Amendment (or any others). Additionally they only pretend to be anti-war when there is a Republican president and right now they care much more about free healthcare, more illegal immigration, banning guns and making anyone that earns more than them pay "their fair share" of taxes. The left wants the constitution abolished, not adhered to. Liberals want more government, not less.

The last 12 years have shown us just unlibertarian the American population is. If we are ever to have any influence it seems to me that building bridges with Republican voters makes a ton more sense than burning those bridges. I suppose that is the art of politics. It seems that most libertarians are not very good at politics. No wonder we are always on the outside looking in.

The Mueller team created lies by omission. I think it is very likely they did this in many places throughout the Mueller Report. This purposeful deceit by Mueller undermines his credibility and the whole report. I wonder if Amash can get past his TDS to admit this.

Even if he does, he still is left in a bad spot. Will he earn a fat paycheck? Sure. Will he help make the GOP a better party? I doubt it. Rand has laid down the blueprint for how to make headway within the GOP and Amash instead appears to be following the AOC blueprint.

This is one reason why Amash attacking Trump was a stupid move. If instead he lead an attack on the corrupt deep state communists, he would be winning allies and gaining stature with Republican voters and politicians. Now he is in the same place as Megyn Kelly. Remember her? She is unemployable and has no allies. Not a great place for a libertarian Republican to be and yet he put himself into this position. Republicans won't trust him and Democrats won't either. Amash could have been working to move the GOP toward a more libertarian position, but now he is toxic.

I agree with Rand. Amash seems to think it is a higher priority to pursue an impeachment that won't happen, than pursuing deep state criminals. Amash has Trump derangement syndrome.

This is the reality we must deal with. Freedom is NOT popular. Security is. I can sit here and wish for a libertarian nation that I know will never happen, or I can deal with the United States as it exists and always will... a struggle between those that want to be free and those that want collectivism. Collectivism = Left, Democrats, Socialists, Communists, Progressives, Neo-Conservatives, etc...

Foreign Aid to Israel puts the U.S. deeper in debt and is bad Foreign Policy

by Cleaner44 on 07-12-2011 at 11:47 PM
When the United States government gives foreign aid to any nation, it throws the concept of Fiscal Responsibility completely out the window.

The U.S. is deeply in debt and must continually borrow money from nations such as China just to operate on a daily basis. Borrowing money to give away to foreign nations that do not pay into our national treasury is fiscally irresponsible. Borrowing money to give to Israel is a heavy burden on the American taxpayer and we simply can not afford

Fiscal Responsibility: Ron Paul vs. Mitt Romney

by Cleaner44 on 06-25-2011 at 04:00 PM
When it comes to the issue of fiscal responsibility both Ron Paul and Mitt Romney understand that the spending of the U.S. federal government is out of control. The annual budget deficits are leading to an ever increasing national debt that is unsustainable. The federal spending must be cut massively in order to balance the budget and that means massive cuts to the size of the federal government.

There are three steps that must be taken in order to get to a point of fiscal responsibility.
