Trump has repeatedly directly attacked 2A and in the process is moving the overton window on gun control in the wrong direction. His words will be used by future Democrat and Republican Presidents to pass gun control legislation. Even if he does nothing it is still too late since his language has already softened everyone up for it to be passed at some future date like when the next lunatic pops off.

Well if he does every effort should be made to ensure he loses since if he wins we will continue to slowly lose our rights while he virtue signals to his enemies. If he loses and we get the worst of the Dems on guns and they are not blocked perhaps some states will be more willing to break away from the federal government. At least there might be a choice, free states or regions as opposed to states under control of the fascist DNC.

I disagree. His base did a lets wait and see before and we ended up with the bump stock ban. Without any push back now Trump will keep moving further to left on gun control believing his base of support is still with him in his pathetic quest for approval from his opposition through gun control legislation.

He made a promise in 2015 they would not play a role and that deal breaker continually comes back to haunt his supporters. It is actually not at all funny how you guys are not "freaking out" over it. (If enough people had started "freaking out" sooner, maybe we wouldn't be in this position ...) Whatever this upcoming proposal is announced to be, you can bet your ass that it isn't any kind of roll-back or negation of already existing gun-rights restrictions. At best, it will be some wishy-washy wiffle that will please no one and which will only serve to encourage gun-grabbers and increase momentum for yet more gun-rights restrictions. And that's the absolute best we can reasonably hope for - and that's quite bad enough (so there's really no need to even get into how much worse it could turn out to be). So why shouldn't anyone who gives a damn about gun rights be "freaking out" over it (especially given Trump's previous gun-grabby shenanigans)? But whatever it turns out to be, I won't be the least bit surprised if the Trump apologists try to excuse, downplay and/or dismiss it out of hand, just as you are preemptively doing here. "Pretty funny," my ass ...

I've been saying for years that the reason why the LGBTQ+ community has risen to power in society is because of the myth of religious and moral neutrality and due to the endorsement of it through legislative measures by both federal and state governments. It's also occurred because the Church has a defeatist eschatology (study of latter times or last days/future), and that has caused a void to be filled by the LGBTQ+ community whereby they can enact their own "Puritanical" movement upon those who dissent and disagree with their sexual lifestyle/preferences. That's really the irony of it all.

Your plan of making everyone over the age of 18 a millionaire still keeps them poor, too, as Yang's plan does; thus, you're not ridding the world of poor people. So, since there are billions of people in the world living in households, then my plan will ensure that every household in the world receives $1 billion. We will tax all billionaires to fund my program, and I will appoint more members to the Federal Reserve Board to ensure we have efficient, reliable quantitative easing to help speed up the process. Vote for me! :check: :money: :handpeace:

What an absurd statement! Do you see what you've assumed there? You've assumed that the government owns 100% of the income in which they tax, and for the government to give a tax cut is for them to allow taxpayers to keep the rest of their money! Your viewpoint is simply in favor of slavery. So, no, tax cuts are not handouts because the income doesn't belong to the government, in the first place. If that's your position, then you seriously need to read some sound economic books, which you can find all over these forums.

Actually, I am probably more of a fatalist than a pessimist - what will be will be, whether for better or worse (or better and worse), and we all have our roles to play, however minor ... (and if my own role is to plop turds into punchbowls, then so be it ...) But I am certainly not a utopian. Perfection is never an option. I'd be happy just with something that signified or embodied some kind of change for the better that is substantive rather than ephemeral. Sadly, Trump's various deregulations, as nice as they might be, are of the latter kind, not the former.

Who is mad at what? Speaking for myself, I am not in any way "mad" that Trump is deregulating some things. That's plenty nice, as far as it goes, and I have not in any way said otherwise (and I defy anyone who thinks I have to show me where). I just see no reason to think that much if any of it is going to "stick" beyond his administration - certainly not in any systemic way. When Trump is gone, the Executive Juggernaut is going to keep right on rolling, just like before - because nothing has really changed. And without the "all or nothing" libertarians pointing out the elephant in the room and the nakedness of the Emperor, the "moderate pragmatic" libertarians will become the "extremists" everyone else likes to sneer at and dismiss. Without them, the so-called "Overton Window" moves even further away from liberty. As Ron Paul pointed out (without having to sneer at anyone), "Purism is practical" ...

And I counter-disagree. The system is broken beyond repair and things have passed the point of no return. At best, It can only be duct-taped and WD-40'ed before it is finally discarded, falls apart or becomes something even worse.

And as for Trump's deregulations, I'd trade them all - each and every one of them - for a vehement, full-throated, no-holds-barred, damn-all-compromise opposition to any and all further curtailments of our gun rights (and an equally vehement support for the repeal or negation of the ones which are already in place). But Trump's mealy-mouthed, half-assed gun grabbery is a liability the consequences of which will overwhelmingly offset the transient iota of miscellaneous regulatory relief he has implemented. (So put that in your punchbowl and drink it ... :p)

I'm glad he's deregulating some things. I'm glad whenever anyone does that. Whether you want to interpret that as me saying "he is doing a good job" is up to you. But at best, it's like the eye of a hurricane. It's going to pass, because nothing has fundamentally changed. As for "Trump is doing the best he can possibly do," I said nothing of the sort - though I suppose you could say such a thing and I might agree, IF you were careful to understand the difference between "the best he can possibly do" (him being a half-assed wiffle-waffler) and "the best that might be done" (if he wasn't such a half-assed wiffle-waffler).

I have too. I've also heard of the people saying those kinds things being "deplatformed," vehemently denounced and vilified by the media, and cited as a justification for more laws and state power to eliminate thought-crime. At the same time, media ("social" and "mainstream"), academics, politicians, etc. emit nary a peep about the kinds of things being said by Conable et al. Indeed, not only do they decline to object, some of them actively approve and participate with similar rhetoric, and are widely praised or defended for doing so. (And it sure as hell ain't because "free speech.") What Conable said, in and of itself, is insignificant. He's just a boorishly braying jackass. What is significant is which kinds of boorish jackasseries are being systematically demonized and which are not - and why ...

This is over a week late, but I wanted to reply to your neg rep comment. I actually was here in 2007, under a different screenname/account, (wildflower) but that's besides the point. I simply have a different opinion on your actions regarding the whole Gunny thing. But I don't feel like arguing about it any further, so that's all.
