I stated to write how they are the same party that had tweeted a Church of Satan quote a few years back but then figured out of curiosity let me see if anyone else is thinking along those lines here. Very next post.

Bad rulings, we have had big government advocates infecting the republic from the beginning. Because they don't like to admit that past rulings were ever wrong and the 14thA was convenient and also could be used to incorporate the 1stA which specified that it only limited Congress. There was no need to discuss it, it says in plain English that the Constitution is binding on the states and the BoR was part of the Constitution.

New threats related to Idlib this week could see the Russian and Turkish armies on a direct collision course. Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Wednesday threatened a full-scale military invasion of the war torn province after the Syrian Army and its Russian ally refused to halt their ongoing offensive. "An operation in Idlib is imminent," Erdogan told Turkish parliament of preparations for NATO's second largest army. "We are counting down, we are making our final warnings". "Turkey has completed preparations for the implementation of its plan on Idlib, just like we did with previous operations. Frankly speaking, an operation in Idlib is only a matter of time," Erdogan said. He further emphasized that Turkey "is determined to pay any price to ensure security in both Idlib and Turkey." The Syrian and Turkish armies have been engaged in sporadic fierce clashes for the past two weeks in Idlib, resulting in scores dead and wounded on each side, though specific numbers are disputed. Turkey has acknowledged at least 13 of its national troops killed. "We will not leave Idlib to the regime, which does not understand our country's determination, and to those encouraging it," said Erdogan. Turkey has thus far sent limited deployments of troops and armored convoys into the northwest Syrian province to support and defend a dozen observation posts. The Kremlin was quick to respond to such a threat of major escalation, pointing out that any Turkish offensive against Syrian forces in Idlib would be the "worst case scenario".

You are wrong, Article 6 applies the Constitution to the states and that includes the BoR. The founders did not intend that any level of government should be able to violate the basic rights of Americans. The 1stA specifically states that it only applies to Congress and since the others do not that means it was meant that they should not be restricted to applying to Congress only. SCOTUS has declared that the 1stA was applied to the states by later amendments and Thomas made an excellent case that that was correct.

Libya’s UN-backed government, the GNA, has suspended peace talks in Geneva, following an attack on a strategic port in Tripoli on Tuesday. “We announce suspending our participation in the military talks held in Geneva until strict stances are taken towards the aggressor and its vioaltions “, the GNA said in a statement, adding that “the militias hit Tripoli’s port which is considered a lifeline for many of Libya’s cities”. “Negotiations don’t mean anything without permanent cease-fire guarantees returning the displaced people and the security of the capital and the other cities”, it added. The attack came as representatives of the GNA and rival commander Khalifa Haftar’s LNA were starting their second round of UN-brokered peace talks in Switzerland. Germany and the UN hosted the meeting, attempting to cut off external military support for the warring parties in the country, as the United Arab Emirates and Turkey refuse to stop arming their allies. Turkey said that Haftar’s forces had fired on a Turkish ship near the port but “missed” the target. Haftar’s forces said they had attacked a depot for weapons and ammuniton at the port “to weaken the combat capabilities of the mercenaries who arrived from Syria” to support Tripoli.

A group of hackers has managed to trick Tesla’s first-generation Autopilot into accelerating from 35 to 85 mph with a modified speed limit sign that humans would be able to read correctly. Hackers at McAfee Advanced Threat Research conducted the experiment. They explain what they set out to do in a blog post:McAfee Advanced Threat Research (ATR) has a specific goal: identify and illuminate a broad spectrum of threats in today’s complex landscape. With model hacking, the study of how adversaries could target and evade artificial intelligence, we have an incredible opportunity to influence the awareness, understanding and development of more secure technologies before they are implemented in a way that has real value to the adversary. With that in mind, they decided to target MobilEye’s camera system since it’s deployed in over 40 million vehicles, including Tesla’s first-generating Autopilot vehicles, which were used for this specific experiment. They decided to try to modify speed limit signs in ways that a human would be able to still know the limit, but the automated system could get confused:

The Libertarian Party (LP) defended a left-wing mob that attacked gun rights protester Kaitlin Bennett on Tuesday when she traveled to Ohio University. Bennett produced video of a mob continuously accosting her during her visit to the university, where she was pelted with debris as the mob hurled threats at her. https://twitter.com/KaitMarieox/status/1229629343179182082 1229629343179182082 This prompted the LP to defend the mob of unruly leftists, claiming that it was within their constitutional rights to menace Bennett and throw projectiles at her in an attempt to obstruct her from spreading her pro-gun message. Ms. Bennett, you have a right to your opinion, and a right to voice it.

The 1stA (or maybe the first part of the 1stA) is the only amendment with such a restriction. All of the others unquestionably are applied to the states by Article 6. And SCOTUS has already interpreted later amendments as applying the 1stA to the states so that's the end of that argument.

Brazil’s oil production jumped by 20.4 percent on the year to set a new production record of 3.168 million barrels per day (bpd) in January, thanks to the prolific pre-salt basin, oil regulator ANP said on Wednesday. Last month, Brazil’s total oil and natural gas production also set a new production record, exceeding 4 million barrels of oil equivalent per day (boe/d) for the first time ever, the regulator said, noting that combined oil and gas production stood at 4.041 million boe/d. Oil production in January 2020 rose by 2 percent compared to December 2019 and by 20.43 percent compared to January 2019, ANP said. The fact that some elements of the BoR may not be as fundamental or GOD given as others or the fact that what GOD commands us to do is not the same as what we have a legal right to do doesn't change the fact that the founders believed in fundamental GOD given rights that no level of government could violate. The founders absolutely intended states to be required to abide by the rights of their citizens Article six imposes the entire Constitution on the states including the BoR: A6: This Constitution, and the Laws of the United States which shall be made in Pursuance thereof; and all Treaties made, or which shall be made, under the Authority of the United States, shall be the supreme Law of the Land; and the Judges in every State shall be bound thereby, any Thing in the Constitution or Laws of any State to the Contrary notwithstanding. And the fact that slavery was tolerated was a known exception that the founders regretted having to deal with and wished to eliminate, that is why the prohibition on Congress barring the importation of more slaves had an end date.

A top official at the Pentagon is resigning at the request of President Trump. The request for John Rood, the under secretary of defense for policy, to step down was made through Defense Secretary Mark Esper, according to Rood's resignation letter. "It's my understanding from Secretary Esper that you requested my resignation from serving as Under Secretary of Defense for Policy. Senior administration officials appointed by the President serve at the pleasure of the President, and therefore, as you have requested, I am providing my resignation effective February 28, 2020." Rood was involved in certifying to Congress that Ukraine was eligible to receive $250 million in security assistance. The certification undercut the argument the Trump administration made for withholding the aid. Shortly after Trump spoke with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on July 25, Rood emailed Secretary of Defense Mark Esper to fill him in on an upcoming meeting "to discuss the President's concern about endemic corruption in Ukraine and his reported view that US should cease providing security assistance," according to emails obtained by CNN. “Placing a hold on security assistance at this time would jeopardize this unique window of opportunity and undermine our defense priorities with a key partner in the strategic competition with Russia,” he wrote in one of the emails. Rood joined the administration in early 2018, working under then-Defense Secretary James Mattis. He has also served in several policy positions at the Pentagon in prior administrations and as an analyst for the CIA. Defense Department press secretary Alyssa Farah said James Anderson will take over Rood's responsibilities until a replacement is confirmed. Attorney General William Barr took aim Wednesday at a key legal protection for the tech industry, calling into question whether it is still needed as a small number of key tech players have reached a massive size and scale. Besides questions of anticompetitive behavior, Barr said at a Department of Justice workshop, the agency is considering what a concentrated tech market means for a legal immunity originally created to help small start-ups thrive. Barr convened the workshop to discuss Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, which says tech companies cannot be held legally liable for content posted by third-party users. The law protects online platforms from being treated as publishers, which can be held legally liable for publishing misleading or harmful content, even if they choose to moderate or remove objectionable content from their platforms. The law has been massively important in allowing some of the biggest tech firms, including Facebook and Google, to grow while maintaining community standards on their platforms and without becoming buried by lawsuits. Tech executives argue that the law is still integral to their work, especially in allowing for “good faith” content moderation. But at the workshop, Barr said the industry Section 230 protects is no longer a fragile, emerging sector. “No longer are technology companies the underdog upstarts,” Barr said. “They have become titans of U.S. industry.” With that scale of power, Barr said, “valid questions have been raised as to whether Section 230′s broad immunity is still needed.” Those questions emerged from the DOJ’s broad review of market-leading online platforms, Barr said. The Antitrust Division has been probing Google and has jurisdiction to probe Apple, as reported by various outlets. Barr described the review of Section 230 as part of a “holistic approach” to the tech industry that recognizes “not all of the concerns raised about online platforms squarely fall within antitrust.” Still, the concentration of tech markets could complicate the importance of Section 230 since a small number of key players control a wide range of discourse, according to Barr. In the mid-1990s when the law was enacted, tech platforms hosted public bulletin boards, but today, they engage much more actively in serving content to users through algorithms and other mechanisms, Barr said. “With these new tools, the line between passively hosting third-party speech and actively curating and promoting speech starts to blur,” Barr said.
