Unfortunately I have indeed seen this banning trend before. Nystrom, because of his own personal hang ups and challenges at the time, started doing this just before he decided to destroy and take the DP down with him rather than hand it off and let it continue. There is even more to be concerned about here than just the recent members banned. He let his personal pet issues override his own logic at the detriment of the site in whole. This alone put a huge huge dent in the Libertarian movement and disgusted a whole lot of folks who were standing strong together and making a real difference. The movement has not been the same since and it cannot afford to lose not even one who would support it. There is not one member here who has not broke the rules many many times. It is a bad time to start becoming sensitive and picky about small things or everyone is going to lose it. This truly is something worth pondering... I see the same signs here.

I want our industries defended against foreign government intervention in our marketplace and our independence and industrial strength guarded through shifting all federal taxation for legitimate federal functions to tariffs.

The smaller the scale is the better free trade works ad the larger it is the worse it works. And shifting all federal taxation for legitimate federal functions to tariffs isn't exactly an embargo on all trade.

Che interfered in foreign countries where he wasn't wanted after he got through murdering and oppressing his own people, Solly did the same thing, so they are invading scum. ISIS and Al Qaeda are also invading scum. I weep for none of them, just for their victims. And Pinochet was a native of his country and was saving it from a communist dictator who had been removed from office by their legislature but refused to leave.

Glad that you checked in. This isn't easy to do at the moment, but focus on right this moment. Not the past, not the future. But just this very moment. Eat and sleep are the two most important things you need to do right now. If you have not been eating but a few hundred calories a day and not sleeping, your thinking is not going to be clear, and it can just mess you all up. You have to eat and sleep. Your brain needs it. Take it a little bit at a time and please focus on those two things. It's really, really important. Ok? You're going to be all right. You've got options, San Diego is one. It may be something that turns everything around. Or maybe it will lead you to the true new start that you need. But now, please take care of you. Get sleep and nourishment. Thinking about you and hoping you find peace. Please pm me (anytime even months from now, whatever) if you ever need to talk about your grief. I'm almost an expert at this point and have a lot of compassion for those going through it. Take care.

A 5.0 magnitude earthquake hit southern Puerto Rico on Saturday at a shallow depth, raising concerns about unstable infrastructure in a region that has been hit by quakes every day for nearly a month. The U.S. Geological Survey said the quake occurred at a depth of eight miles (13 kilometers) around the southern coastal town of Guayanilla, located close to the epicenters of most of the recent earthquakes. At least one small landslide was reported. “We felt it really hard,” town spokesman Danny Hernandez told The Associated Press, saying authorities were patrolling the area to investigate any potential damage. Yes. But I was wrong, it's 3.8: HOLY MOTHER OF GOD – the new coronavirus is a 3.8!!! How bad is that reproductive R0 value? It is thermonuclear pandemic level bad – never seen an actual virality coefficient outside of Twitter in my entire career. I’m not exaggerating… #WuhanCoronovirus #CoronavirusOutbreak pic.twitter.com/6mmxIHL9Ue — Dr. Eric Feigl-Ding (@DrEricDing) January 25, 2020 12/ What is the typical R0 attack rate for the seasonal flu in most years? The governor of Tennessee is catching heat for signing a bill that allows religious-based adoption agencies the right to deny services to anyone, including LGBTQ families. The measure, which Gov. Bill Lee signed into law on Friday, also protects those agencies from getting sued or retaliated against for rejecting an applicant for "foster care or adoption if it violates their written religious or moral convictions or policies," according to House Bill 836. The bill passed by the Tennessee state Senate on Jan. 14 with a 20 to 6 vote. Five members were present but abstained from voting. After the Senate passed the bill, Lee promised to sign the bill once it hit his desk. "The governor believes that protection of rights is important, especially religious liberty," said Gillum Ferguson, a spokesman for Lee. "This bill is centered around protecting the religious liberty of Tennesseans and that’s why he signed it." About Keynes: John Maynard Keynes. Keynes was generally free trade and supported the logic of specialisation“In a regime of Free Trade and free economic intercourse it would be of little consequence that iron lay on one side of a political frontier, and labor, coal, and blast furnaces on the other. But as it is, men have devised ways to impoverish themselves and one another; and prefer collective animosities to individual happiness.” John Maynard Keynes The Economic Consequences of the Peace (1920) Though it worth bearing in mind Keynes wavered on free trade in some circumstances More at: https://www.economicshelp.org/trade2/benefits_free_trade/ Keynes thought tariffs were ridiculous. While knocking free trade, he also wrote that “the reader must not reach a premature conclusion as to the practical policy to which our argument leads up…. The advantages of the international division of labor are real and substantial, even though the classical school greatly overstressed them…. A policy of trade restrictions is a treacherous instrument.”

Very few people are wrong about everything 100%. And I don't necessarily embrace Hamilton 100% on this and certainly not about central banks at all. My view is that all federal taxes should be tariffs (with the possible exception of a small tax on state budgets to deal with any ups and downs in trade) and that would take care of any need for protectionism aside from specific extra measures to counter deliberate trade warfare by foreign governments.

#NewYear'sEveInICU was the top trend on Chinese social media Friday on what is usually the most festive day of the year. According to the Guardian, the gallows-humor hashtag topped the Twitter-like Weibo platform as China entered the Lunar New Year, a grim reminder of a fast-spreading viral outbreak. Novel coronavirus, or 2019-nCoV as it is known scientifically, has killed 41, sickened nearly 1,300, and spread to 12 countries. The trend is also an example of frustrations bubbling over on China's social media, including the microblogging site Weibo and the app WeChat. Those frustrations are being lobbed at local government, despite the censorship regime which makes criticizing anybody in power a risky business. "Can you please send a responsible leader to Hubei?" reads a comment on the Chinese social media platform Sina Weibo, the Guardian reported, seemingly calling for China's central Communist Party to intervene from Beijing. The comments are a sign that the government's quarantine of 35 million people across 12 cities could backfire, as both the healthy and the infected remain cut off from the outside. "The first and golden rule of public health is you have to gain the trust of the population," said Lawrence O. Gostin, a professor of Global Health Law at Georgetown University who spoke to The Washington Post. He said the extreme measure is instead likely to "drive the epidemic underground."
