Much better than if he led with the even worse aspects of the problem. Things like the kids getting killed by reckless drivers etc. are emotional, but they have a much stronger negative emotional edge that turns people away from the subject because they don't want to think about it. The pet theft and eating is just emotional and negative enough to grab the attention but not so negative that it turns people away to thinking about other things, then once they are invested they will look into the rest of the problem and stick to it.

It was effective rhetoric and emotional communication that made an impression in the public mind and spread awareness of the population replacement and the barbarity of the people being imported to replace us.
