The European Union is eyeing long promised punitive measures against Turkey for its illegal military incursion into northern Syria, as well as its unauthorized natural gas drilling off Cyprus' coast. Germany's Deutsche Welle reported on Saturday the EU has moved to cut pre-accession aid to Turkey by 75%, citing a letter sent to the European Parliament by the EU foreign affairs commissioner. The Instrument for 'Pre-Accession Assistance' (IPA) is offered in support of reforms in countries in the process of joining the EU, despite previously planned 'fast-tracked' talks for Turkey to join the European bloc stalling significantly after 2016. However, the EU quickly distanced itself the report, which appears to have originated with a leaked draft EU letter: An EU spokesman on Sunday denied media reports from the previous day that claimed the bloc had agreed to massive new cuts to pre-accession aid to Turkey. Germany's Funke Media Group had said it saw a letter from the bloc's top diplomat, Josep Borrell, announcing a 75% cut to the funds Ankara receives as a prospective EU member via the "Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance (IPA)." — DW It appears the letter was leaked to or seen by the media prematurely, and now EU officials are scrambling to deny it.

An Alaska volcano that has been rumbling since midsummer shot ash about 5 miles (8 km) into the sky on Sunday, triggering a warning to aviators and dusting one small fishing village, officials reported.Shishaldin Volcano, one of the most active in Alaska, kicked out a plume of ash that satellite imagery detected as high as 28,000 feet (8,535 m) above sea level, according to the Alaska Volcano Observatory, the joint federal-state-university office that tracks the state’s many volcanoes. The plume stretched about 90 miles (145 km) as of midday, blowing mostly east and over the Gulf of Alaska, said the observatory. A sprinkling of ash was reported in the tiny Aleutian village of False Pass, about 23 miles (37 km) northeast of the Shishaldin, said David Fee, the observatory’s University of Alaska Fairbanks coordinating scientist. “Someone reported some ash on their windshield,” he said. False Pass has a year-round population of about 40, according to state data, but draws many more people during the summer fishing season. Also pouring out of Shishaldin's caldera on Sunday was a stream of red-hot lava, the observatory reported. Shishaldin has been in an on-and-off eruptive phase since July, occasionally dribbling lava down its snowy flanks and puffing ash and steam. Most of the ash production has been relatively minor, but Sunday’s event was serious enough to warrant a “code red” warning for air traffic to avoid the area, the second such warning in the volcano's current eruptive phase, Fee said.

An airline pilot was caught on hidden camera vandalizing a Florida airport with graffiti that included racial slurs and slogans both supporting and opposing President Trump, according to authorities. James Dees, 53, was released on bond from a Leon County jail around 1pm on Friday after he was arrested and charged with nine counts of criminal mischief. Dees, a former pilot with Delta subsidiary Endeavor Air, is said to have admitted to authorities that he wrote racial slurs, including '#MAGA=No N*****S=NO SP**S,' multiple times on the walls of airport bathrooms and the parking lot elevator at Tallahassee International Airport. In December 2018, local police first received reports of graffiti in the men's restrooms as well as inside an elevator near the front entrance and on some parked cars, according to WCTV-TV. Over the course of the next year, more graffiti kept appearing, including '#MAGA,' 'TRUMP4EVER,' 'Send them ALL back,' and other racial slurs which were found in the stalls of the men's restrooms and other locations. Police charged Dees with nine counts of criminal mischief. The total damage from the graffiti is estimated to be less than $200. Endeavor released a statement to WCTV saying that Dees was no longer employed by the airline. 'These actions in no way reflect the values of Endeavor Air and this individual is no longer employed by the airline,' the company said.

Nothing, I hope. The farmers didn't need the aid and it wasn't China that was causing them problems. What will happen is much higher tariffs on China. And I expect China to break the deal.

French officials were convinced that mounting speed cameras high atop poles would keep them from being attacked. The government committed to replacing every existing photo radar installation with these next-generation "turret" speed cameras only to learn that the devices are being destroyed faster than they are deployed. According to the experts at Radars-Auto.com, twelve cameras have been installed in the Tarn department since January 1, but a total of thirteen turret cameras there have been knocked out of service during the same period. On Friday, vigilantes used white paint to blind the speed camera on the A320 in Forbach. On Thursday, the turret camera on the RD612 in Beziers was cut down. Down the same road toward Agde, another turret camera was pried open and blinded with yellow spraypaint. On January 11, vigilantes cut down the speed camera on the RD600 in Sainte-Croix. Vigilantes in San Giuliano, Italy, took out a trio of orange Velo OK brand speed cameras last week. The camera on the Via Gorky was blown up on January 10. The device on the Via Della Repubblica was knocked over, and on January 12 the camera on the Via Tolstoj was struck with a blunt object. In Cuneo, the speed camera on the SS231 was rammed on Thursday. http://thenewspaper.com/news/68/6872.asp

One of the things focused on excessively by the fake news media during the build up to today’s peaceful gun rally in Virginia has been the supposed plotting of neo-Nazis and armed militia groups to storm the Capitol. Although none of those hysterical fears came to fruition, there were three men accused of being involved with the neo-nazi group The Base that were arrested last week. They were arrested on weapons’ charges as well as the bizarre charge of harboring an illegal immigrant from Canada. It was claimed by authorities without any evidence being provided to the public that they were planning a violent display at the Capitol rally. While this news has been used to demonize all gun owners, startling details have emerged showing that The Base may in fact be a group run by the feds. Another Base member Yousef O. Barasneh, 22, was arrested and charged on Friday with vandalizing a Racine, WI synagogue last year. Court records show that a federal informant had been giving orders to members of the hate group to commit acts of anti-Semitic terror. The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported last week that a key leader within “The Base” was a federal informant responsible ordering anti-Semitic terror attacks: One of the group’s ringleaders became an informant and gave investigators details over the past several months. The documents in Barasneh’s case do not name the person but note he has been federally charged in another state for his role. The man admitted he directed the group to vandalize minority-owned properties, calling it “Operation Kristallnacht,” a reference to Nazi Germany and the night Jewish homes, hospitals and other properties were ransacked and destroyed. The man told investigators he said: “If there’s a window that wants to be broken, don’t be shy.” This would not be the first time that the federal government has infiltrated extremist right-wing groups and made domestic terrorists into intelligence assets. The FBI infamously paid off Ku Klux Klan leader George Dorsett of Greensboro, NC for years while he was still burning crosses and fomenting the hatred of minorities.

Saudi Arabia’s economy is expected to grow by 1.9 percent this year, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) said on Monday, revising down its forecast of 2.2-percent growth from just three months ago, due to expected lower Saudi oil production as the Kingdom has pledged to overcomply with the OPEC+ oil production cuts. In the October forecasts, the IMF had expected Saudi Arabia’s real GDP growth to pick up to 2.2 percent in 2020, after sluggish 0.2 percent growth in 2019. Back then, the IMF said that Saudi Arabia would need oil prices at US$86.50 in 2019 and US$83.60 in 2020 in order to balance its budget. “The downgrade for 2020 mostly reflects a downward revision to Saudi Arabia’s projection on expected weaker oil output growth following the OPEC+ decision in December to extend supply cuts,” the IMF said today. Try reading what you respond to, most of what you said is in the OP. And Trump wanted European countries to take such people into custody and try them, he didn't say they should release them into their population.
