The president of the Portland Police Association in Oregon issued a scathing rebuke of Mayor Ted Wheeler’s response to the city’s homelessness crisis, saying the city has become a feces-covered “cesspool” under the Democrat’s watch. “Our City has become a cesspool,” PPA President Daryl Turner wrote in a statement posted on Facebook Monday. “Livability that once made Portland a unique and vibrant city is now replaced with human feces in businesses doorways, in our parks, and on our streets. “Aggressive panhandlers block the sidewalks, storefronts, and landmarks like Pioneer Square, discouraging people from enjoying our City,” he said. “Garbage-filled RVs and vehicles are strewn throughout our neighborhoods. Used needles, drug paraphernalia, and trash are common sights lining the streets and sidewalks of the downtown core area, under our bridges, and freeway overpasses. That’s not what our families, business owners, and tourists deserve.” His comments came after the mayor told The Oregonian that he wanted an investigation into the city’s arrest data after an analysis by the newspaper found 52 percent of arrests made last year involved a homeless person, while the homeless represent only roughly 3 percent of the city’s population. “The real question here is, ‘Is there some sort of profiling or implicit bias?’” Mr. Wheeler said last week. “From my perspective, that’s the crux of the situation. The police should be focused on policing criminal activity, and that’s sort of the beginning, the middle and the end of it for me.” More at: https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2018/jul/17/police-union-president-slams-dem-mayors-homelessne/ "KEEP PORTLAND WEIRD":nauseated:

A top intelligence official at the National Security Council (NSC) is reportedly leaving the White House. Michael Barry, senior NSC director for intelligence programs, is leaving the council as part of national security adviser John Bolton’s major staffing overhaul, two government officials told the Daily Beast. One source quoted in the report Tuesday said that Barry is leaving on “very good terms,” but that his departure will be a “tough loss.” Barry is reportedly returning to the CIA, where he served before joining the NSC. President Trump's former national security adviser H.R. McMaster hired Barry to replace Ezra Cohen-Watnick, who reportedly butted heads with other officials before being fired in August, according to the Daily Beast. A bipartisan group of senators on Tuesday introduced a package of bills designed to make it easier for Americans to save for retirement. The four senators behind the legislation — Cory Booker (D-N.J.), Tom Cotton (R-Ark.), Heidi Heitkamp (D-N.D.) and Todd Young (R-Ind.) — span the political spectrum, boosting the prospects for advancing the measures. "Our work on these bills shows a bipartisan commitment to improving economic security for workers and families, and I hope we can move them forward as they will make a difference for so many Americans who deserve to live with dignity both as workers and retirees," said Heitkamp. One measure would pave the way for pooled employer plans, allowing smaller businesses to more easily offer retirement savings schemes for their workers. Another bill would make more retirement savings automatic, requiring workers to opt out rather than opt in. About one-third of private sector workers don’t have access to a workplace retirement plan, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, which also found that smaller businesses are significantly less likely to offer defined retirement plans compared to larger companies. "Americans work hard day after day with often little promise of economic security in the future," Young said. The third bill would create “emergency savings accounts” that would serve as alternatives to people accessing their retirement savings early for emergencies, while the fourth measure would allow tax filers to automatically put any tax refunds into a savings account. Those two policies would help Americans who are chronically low on savings.

Texas Instruments has dumped CEO Brian Crutcher for personal misconduct less than two months after he took over the job, ruining the chip maker's hopes for a smooth transition to new leadership.Crutcher resigned Tuesday after TI's board determined he violated the company's code of conduct with behavior the company said was not consistent with its ethics and core values. TI emphasized Crutcher's transgression wasn't related to its operations or finances. The company, however, declined to elaborate on what he did wrong in response to an in inquiry. The Dallas company is bringing back Crutcher's predecessor as CEO, TI Chairman Rich Templeton. Crutcher replaced Templeton as CEO June 1 as part of what the Dallas company described as a "well-planned succession" when the change was announced in January. Crutcher had spent more than 20 years at TI before emerging as Templeton's heir apparent. In a video recorded for TI's employees, Templeton said he was surprised, disappointed and mad when he first found out the company needed him to come back as CEO. A common blood pressure and heart drug manufactured in bulk by a Chinese company and sold worldwide may have contained an impurity linked to cancer since 2012, European regulators said on Tuesday. The revelation that the problem likely dates back to changes in manufacturing processes at Zhejiang Huahai Pharmaceutical six years ago suggests many patients could potentially have been exposed to cancer risk. The European Medicines Agency (EMA), which first raised the alarm over the Chinese supplied valsartan on July 5, said it was now working to establish how long and at what levels patients might have been exposed to the impurity known as NDMA. NDMA, or N-nitrosodimethylamine, is classified as a probable human carcinogen. Based on results from laboratory tests, it may cause cancer with long-term use. "It is still too early to provide information on the longer term risk NDMA may have posed for patients. EMA has made this aspect of the review a priority and will update the public as soon as new information becomes available," the agency said. EU authorities have been recalling medicines containing valsartan from Zhejiang Huahai over the past two weeks and the EMA said such medicines should no longer be available in pharmacies. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration also took action to recall affected valsartan-containing medicines on Friday. Zhejiang Huahai has already acknowledged that there was an impurity in some of its valsartan, which it said had sales of $50 million in 2017. Officials at the company could not immediately be reached for comment outside of regular business hours on the fact the problem might date back to 2012. The EMA said NDMA was an unexpected impurity that was not detected by routine tests carried out by Zhejiang Huahai, adding that the manufacturing changes introduced in 2012 were believed to have produced NDMA as a by-product.

U.S. Defense Secretary Jim Mattis is open to the possibility of the first talks since 2015 between the defense chiefs of the United States and Russia, a move that would deepen communication between Washington and Moscow, U.S. officials said. The possibility of talks surfaced after Monday's controversial summit in Helsinki between U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, in which they sought an end to years of strained relations. Trump was heavily criticized at home for not holding Putin accountable in Helsinki for meddling in the 2016 U.S. election, an allegation that Moscow denies. Discussions between Mattis and Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu would be another step toward creating more regular top-level political talks between the two nuclear powers, whose relations have deteriorated in recent years to the worst point since the Cold War. Two U.S. officials, speaking to Reuters on condition of anonymity, said Mattis was open to the possibility of talks. They did not suggest he was actively seeking discussions with Shoigu, either in person or by telephone. The EU is still facing major political divisions over the response of the bloc’s member countries to the mass influx of immigrants and asylum seekers, which kicked off in 2015. Austria does not plan on receiving any of the 450 migrants who have disembarked in Sicily, the country’s Chancellor Sebastian Kurz pointed out in his letter to Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte, according to the Austria Press Agency, which obtained a copy of the letter. In the letter, Kurz allegedly cited the fact that in terms of population, Austria has accepted more asylum applications than “many other EU countries” since 2015. The letter came after Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte had written to all EU members and urged them to accept some of the refugees who were rescued from a boat in the Mediterranean by two vessels from the EU’s Frontex coast guard and border patrol authorities. With Spain, Portugal, France, Germany and Malta each offering to take in 50 of the 450-strong group, Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babis rejected Conte’s request, warning that relocating the refugees may “lead down the road to hell.” More at: https://www.infowars.com/austria-refuses-migrants-landing-in-italy/

Rolls-Royce said Tuesday it is developing tiny “cockroach” robots that can crawl inside aircraft engines to spot and fix problems. The U.K. engineer said the miniature technology can improve the way maintenance is carried out by speeding up inspections and eliminating the need to remove an engine from an aircraft for repair work to take place. David Reid | CNBC “They could go off scuttling around reaching all different parts of the combustion chamber,” said James Kell, technology specialist at Rolls-Royce. Speaking at the Farnborough International Airshow in England, Kell added that the robots could save engineers a lot of time. “If we did it conventionally it would take us five hours; with these little robots, who knows, it might take five minutes,” he added. To explore the concept, the Rolls-Royce has teamed up with robotics experts at Harvard University in the U.S. and the University of Nottingham in England.

Academics say they've mounted a successful GPS spoofing attack against road navigation systems that can trick humans into driving to incorrect locations. The research is of note because previous GPS spoofing attacks have been unable to trick humans, who, in past experiments, often received malicious driving instructions that didn't make sense or were not in sync with the road infrastructure —for example taking a left on a straight highway. New research successfully fools humans But a research team formed from academics from Virginia Tech and the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, along with experts from Microsoft Research, have come with an improved method of carrying out GPS spoofing attacks that take into account the road layout. To perform the attack researchers developed an algorithm that works in near real-time, along with a portable GPS-spoofing device that costs about $223, which can be easily attached to a car or put on a vehicle tailing the target's car at distances of up to 50 meters. Researchers say their algorithm allows an attacker to select an area where they could lure victims. "The algorithm crafts the GPS inputs to the target device such that the triggered navigation instruction and displayed routes on the map remain consistent with the physical road network," researchers say. "In the physical world, the victim who follows the instruction would be led to a wrong route (or a wrong destination). " "On average, our algorithm identified 1547 potential attacking routes for each target trip for the attacker to choose from," the research team said. "If the attacker aims to endanger the victim, the algorithm can successfully craft special attack route that contains wrong-ways for 99.8% of the trips." The Irish government is expected to agree this week on a plan to move all of the Republic’s oil reserves out of the UK as Ireland steps up its preparations for Brexit, Ireland’s Sunday Independent reported. Under the plan, seen as one of the most significant Brexit decisions for Ireland so far, Ireland will transfer the nearly 200,000 tons of oil out of British refineries and back into Ireland or other EU member states, as the UK is preparing to leave the European Union bloc. According to Sunday Independent, the oil would be moved out of the UK “for national security reasons.” More at: https://www.zerohedge.com/news/2018-07-16/ireland-move-all-its-oil-reserves-out-uk-brexit-nears :flashinglight:Will Brexit lead to war?

In the past, oil has accounted for 96 percent of Venezuela's exports and over 40 percent of government revenues. Now, as the nation’s economy continues to crumble amid sanctions, political strife, and low oil prices, Venezuela’s all-important oil production is plummeting. In fact, last month’s production was the lowest in 30 years at 1.5 million barrels a day. In desperation, the struggling administration has even begun to shut downproduction proactively as their terminal storage meets maximum capacity and the government faces major bottlenecks at storage facilities and ports. As oil production and exports drop, the Venezuelan government has even less money to buy essentials like food, medicines, and other basic goods--a well-established crisis growing worse all the time. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has said that the brutal economic crisis underway in Venezuela is one of the worst in modern history. The nation’s once powerful economy has plummeted 45 percent in the last five years, and the IMF projects that it will shrink 15 percent in 2018 alone. Out-of-control inflation rates will reach 13,800 percent. However, in the middle of the chaos -- a collapsing regime, widespread hunger, medical shortages -- there is one holdover from the socialist platform that autocratic President Nicolas Maduro has refused to lapse on. Despite the crisis on his own soil, Maduro continues to grant generous oil subsidies to Cuba. The small island nation, not without its own economic issues, has been dependent on cheap Venezuelan oil since the 1990s. After the fall of the Soviet Union, comrade Cuba was in economic shambles. It was at this point that they turned to Venezuela reduced-rate crude oil, in exchange for sending skilled laborers across the Caribbean. Now, as Venezuela sinks deeper and deeper into an extreme economic depression, few could have predicted that they would still be making good on that decade-old agreement with Cuba--even the Cubans themselves have been scrambling for new sources of cheap crude. Last year Venezuela even cut off exports to Cuba for eight months, but then once again began sending shipments of light oil to Cuba and Curacao in March 2017 at a great cost to their own refineries, which are running at just a small fraction of their capacity thanks to lack of maintenance and drained funds. Despite all this, amazingly, there was a reported shipment of 500,000 barrels of Venezuelan crude shipped to northwestern Cuba last week, sparking an uproar back at home. Venezuela continues to supply Cuba with around 55,00 barrels of oil per day, costing the nation around $1.2 billion per year, an unthinkable generosity when 9 million Venezuelans are reporting that they can only afford to eat once a day. This money could be channeled into turning around Venezuela’s own crisis, to curb inflation and import desperately needed medicines that can no longer be found on empty Venezuelan shelves.

Mexico's leftist President-elect Andrews Manuel López Obrador announced plans to cut his salary from his predecessor Enrique Peña Nieto's $171,000 per year (270,000 pesos) to $68,544 - about enough to survive in San Francisco with three roommates. "What we want is for the budget to reach everybody," López Obrador told reporters on Sunday. The President-elect said that he would have reduced his salary further, however he doesn't want to stoke resentment among future Cabinet members who are leaving private sector positions and academic posts that already pay more than the new ceiling for public officials. López Obrador then reiterated several campaign promises, including cuts on taxpayer-funded perks for high-level government officials, such as private medical insurance, chauffeurs and bodyguards - though considering the 130 candidates who were assassinated during the election, he may want to reconsider on the bodyguards. At the same time, he doubled down on pledges to stem corruption. Mexico ranks 135 out of 180 countries in Transparency International's 2017 Corruption Perception Index, with higher numbers indicating higher levels of corruption. Public officials will have to disclose their assets, he said, and corruption will be considered a serious offense. -LA Times Obrador's supporters cheered the proposals. Federal prosecutors have quietly dismissed assault charges leveled against several members of the Turkish presidential guard who savagely attacked protesters in Washington, D.C. last year, The Washington Post reports. The guards, stationed outside the Turkish ambassador's home not far from the White House, reportedly charged and beat demonstrators who'd gathered there while Erdogan was inside in an effort to send Erdogan a message about increased censorship and state surveillance in Turkey, and to draw attention to the Turkish president's actions against civil liberties in his home country. Fifteen guards were indicted in early July 2017, WaPo says, for their role in a clear violation of protesters' rights. But by May 2018, exactly one year after the incident, federal prosecutors had dropped all but seven indictments. Last week, prosecutors quietly ended their case against three more bodyguards. Both The Washington Post and The Wall Street Journal requested comment from the U.S. Attorney's office, but neither received a response. Sources close to the decision told The Washington Post that prosecutors feared they did not have enough evidence to convict the guards, and that, despite video of the event which went viral across social media, they don't have many clear pictures of the bodyguards' faces. Turkey also complained about the charges to the local U.S. ambassador, and it was clear from the moment the indictments dropped that Turkey had no intention of extraditing anyone to face trial in the United States. Four indictments remain on the books, for guards Ismail Dalkiran, Servet Erkan, Ahmet Karabay and Mehmet Sarman, all identified by the State Department from protest footage. Sarman is charged with assaulting both protesters and D.C. police officers. Karabay and Dalkiran allegedly assaulted protesters and ignored orders to stop from members of law enforcement. "Erkan was charged with recklessly causing significant bodily injury to one victim and charged with using a dangerous weapon, a shod foot, on another person." https://www.dailywire.com/news/33195/federal-prosecutors-dismiss-assault-charges-emily-zanotti?utm_medium=referral&utm_source=idealmedia&utm_campaign=dailywire.com&utm_term=68731&utm_content=1

Republican National Committee fundraising is fiery hot: the RNC has now raised $213 million for the 2017-2018 election cycle, at least $100 million more than the Democratic National Committee raised during the same time period. The RNC raised $13.9 million in June, a record for June in a non-presidential year, as The Washington Free Beacon reports. In addition, the RNC has no debt and $50.7 million cash on hand, quintupling the cash on hand held by the DNC. RNC chair Ronna McDaniel asserted, "What I see when I travel the country is that Americans continue to be enthusiastic about President Trump and the Republican agenda. That enthusiasm has allowed for me to grow our war chest and invest it into what has become the biggest ground game in our Party’s history." New Jersey's Democratic Senator, Bob Menendez, who walked away from a corruption indictment on a mistrial, may not be re-elected. According to a recent poll, the senator's chances at keeping his seat in the upcoming mid-term have disintegrated. As a two-term senator and former congressman, Menendez had put himself on track to become a major D.C. insider — that was, until he was tried on 18 counts of corruption last year. The DW's Hank Berrien reported further details: Menendez took gifts from Salomon Melgen, a Florida eye doctor, such as a luxury hotel stay, private jet flights, and campaign donations. They charged that Menendez, in turn, attempted to help Melgen get U.S. visas for his girlfriends, including Brazilian actress and porn pinup star Juliana Lopes Leite, aided him in his $8.9 million billing feud with Medicare, and helped Melgen with a port security contract in the Dominican Republic. Last spring, Melgen was convicted on 67 counts of massive Medicare fraud totaling $90 million. Despite a mistrial in the case after a jury failed to reach a unanimous conclusion, Karmic justice may still be in the works. As of now, a recent poll from Fairleigh Dickinson University shows that Menendez's GOP challenger, former Marine Bob Hugin, stands within two percentage points of victory (within the poll's margin of error). Back in April, a Monmouth University poll gave Menendez a 21-point lead. He has only dropped since then. "It’s no surprise that the more New Jerseyans learn about corrupt, career politician Bob Menendez the less they trust him and the more they want him out of office. We have seen a significant shift towards our campaign and only expect those numbers to grow," Hugin communications director Megan Piwowar said in a statement. https://www.dailywire.com/news/33189/walls-close-sen-bob-menendez-could-be-unseated-gop-paul-bois?utm_medium=referral&utm_source=idealmedia&utm_campaign=dailywire.com&utm_term=68731&utm_content=1

Former USA divers claim they suffered sexual abuse at the hands of their coach Will Bohonyi which was allegedly enabled and initially ignored by USA Diving. Two female divers claim they were preyed upon by Bohonyi and forced into frequently engaging in sex acts with him, according to a class action lawsuit filed against the organization last week. The USA Diving's national governing body has been accused of ignoring and enabling the alleged sex abuse that occurred on their watch. "This is just the beginning for USA Diving," said attorney Jon Little, adding that it's "worse than gymnastics, worse than swimming." Little says other allegedly victimized divers have come forward too. Bohonyi allegedly "demanded oral sex" from one diver in 2009 while she was at Indiana University. "He made clear to (the woman) that this exchange was required for him to continue coaching her as part of USA Diving," the suit claims. Bohonyi allegedly forced her to engage in "at least one sexual act a day while he was acting as her coach" and made her "text him sexually explicit photos of herself." "You owe me this," the alleged victim claims she was frequently told, per the suit. As noted by CNN, she eventually transferred to a different school. The other female diver, then a member of the Ohio State University Diving Club, says Bohonyi began to sexually abuse her when she was just 16 years old, in 2014. She was "psychologically coerced" into "believing she was required to perform sexual services in exchange for her continued involvement in diving," says the suit. "He preyed on her age, vulnerability, and dreams of becoming an Olympian and used the power structure and imbalance of power (coach/athlete) to make her believe she was required to sexually service him in exchange for her involvement in diving for Team USA," the lawsuit claims.

A new Vatican document sparked ire among consecrated virgins with a ruling that virginity is no longer a prerequisite to become a “Bride of Christ.” The document, Ecclesiae Sponsae Imago, published by the Vatican’s Congregation for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life July 4, serves as a new instructional concerning consecrated virginity. The instructional clarifies that while physical virginity and chastity are important aspects of the life of a “bride of Christ,” they are not prerequisites that, if unmet, would absolutely disqualify a woman from being consecrated as one.
