The Trump administration may continue to enforce a rule mandating that recipients of federal planning funds, such as Planned Parenthood, separate themselves from abortion activities, the Ninth US Circuit Court of Appeals ruled Monday. The administration’s Protect Life Rule requires “clear financial and physical separation between Title X-funded projects and programs or facilities where abortion is a method of family planning” and bans “referral for abortion as a method of family planning.” The abortion lobby has responded with multiple lawsuits, and Planned Parenthood chose to withdraw from Title X rather than comply with the new conditions. Abortion proponents have dubbed the rule a “gag rule.” A three-judge panel of the Ninth Circuit lifted a temporary injunction against enforcing the rule last June, and the full court affirmed that decision Monday, Bloomberg Law reports. It's being described a shock resignation by the world's oldest elected leader. The 94-year old Prime Minister of Malaysia, Mahathir Mohamad, who returned to power in 2018, announced his resignation on Monday in a mere two-line statement offering no details. He was asked to stay on as interim leader by the country's king upon his resignation at 1pm local time. It follows a weekend of political turmoil, which will now continue this week as the question of a new government remains hanging in the balance. As Al Jazeera reports: Mahathir's decision follows a weekend of political wrangling, after it was reported on Sunday night that his party was planning to form a new government that would exclude his anointed successor, Anwar Ibrahim. ...Anwar also said that Mahathir has no plans to join with anyone from the previous ruling coalition he defeated to try to form a new government. When asked if Mahathir was responsible for the current political turmoil, Anwar blamed "those within my party and outside using his name." The crisis was sparked reportedly upon Mahathir’s supporters within his own "Pact of Hope" coalition attempting to form a new coalition allegedly aimed to prevent the appointment of his agreed successor, Anwar Ibrahim. Anwar and Mahathir had in 2018 joined forces despite their rocky political relations to defeat a notoriously corruption-plagued government in the polls. For the time being it's expected that Malaysia's constitutional monarch will play a key role, with options to invite a leader to form a new administration, or alternately call for a fresh general election.

The Armador County Sheriff’s department now appears to be walking back their initial claim of suicide in the death of DHS Whistle-blower Phillip Haney. In addition to the announcement the sheriff’s office has requested assistance from the FBI: From Gateway Pundit – “Unfortunately, there was misinformation immediately being put out that we have determined Mr. Haney’s death to be a suicide. This is not the case. We are currently in the beginning phase of our investigation and any final determination as to the cause and manner of Mr. Haney’s death would be extremely premature and inappropriate. No determination will be made until all evidence is examined and analyzed.” (read more) More at: https://theconservativetreehouse.com/2020/02/24/odd-reversal-california-sheriff-now-says-no-conclusion-of-suicide-in-mysterious-death-of-dhs-whistle-blower/

Racist signs that say “white lives don’t matter” and other racial slurs were posted in the Canadian city of Kitchener but received no media coverage whatsoever. One of the posters features an image of Jesus Christ being crucified along with the words ‘WHITE LIVES DON’T MATTER’ in capital letters. Another sign says ‘It’s okay to hate white people’ and ‘racism against whites doesn’t exist’. That sign also features a logo for ‘Kitchener/Waterloo against fascism’. Spotted in downtown Kitchener/Waterloo! Why isn’t @CBCAlerts reporting on hate crimes against whites and Christians? It’s OK to be white. pic.twitter.com/obBndCxN48 — LΞIGH (@LeighStewy) February 23, 2020 The group’s Facebook page describes it as “a new organization dedicated to combatting fascism in all its forms by any means necessary.” Despite the virulently racist nature of the signs, they have received zero local or national media coverage whatsoever.

From WaPo updates page here, a short blurb:“According to Italian media reports, one of the first people to come down with the virus was a 38-year-old who’d had dinner with somebody who had just come back from China. But some three weeks passed between that dinner and the time the man came down with a fever. In between, he ran a half-marathon, played soccer and traveled to several towns, according to La Repubblica, a major Italian daily.”

Here is an illustrative story I hope most people would not allow themselves to fall into after all they have seen here – Daredevil and Flat Earth theorist “Mad” Mike Hughes dies in rocket crash. He had a parachute on his rocket that was supposed to pop at apogee, and float him back down. It popped a moment after launch and was blown from the rocket by the exhaust, leaving him to follow the trajectory at full speed into the ground. I suspect the reason he died was contained in the story, and by now nobody here would have found themselves in this position. From the story – “The Flat Earth thing is like everything else to me,” Hughes told CBS News in October 2018. “I just want people to question everything. Question what your congressman is doing, your city council. Question what really happened during the Civil War. What happened during 9/11.” Don’t drop redpolls like that, and then strap yourself to a sabotageable rocket, and fire yourself into the air while it is being videotaped. President Trump’s immigration policies — like travel bans and visa restrictions or refugee caps and asylum changes — have begun to deliver on a longstanding goal: Legal immigration has fallen more than 11 percent and a steeper cut is looming. While Mr. Trump highlights the construction of a border wall to stress his war on illegal immigration, it is through policy changes, not physical barriers, that his administration has been able to seal the United States. Two more measures were to take effect by Monday, an expansion of his travel ban and strict wealth tests on green card applicants. “He’s really ticking off all the boxes. It’s kind of amazing,” said Sarah Pierce, a policy analyst with the Migration Policy Institute, a nonpartisan research group. “In an administration that’s been perceived to be haphazard, on immigration they’ve been extremely consistent and barreling forward.” The number of people who obtained lawful permanent residence, besides refugees who entered the United States in previous years, declined to 940,877 in the 2018 fiscal year from 1,063,289 in the 2016 fiscal year, according to an analysis of government data by the National Foundation for American Policy. Four years ago, legal immigration was at its highest level since 2006, when 1,266,129 people obtained lawful permanent residence in the United States. Although the data provides only a glimpse of the effect of Mr. Trump’s agenda, immigration experts said it was the first sign of a decline that coming policies are most likely to exacerbate. Those include the wealth tests, which will be imposed on immigrants applying for green cards from both inside and outside the United States. Around two-thirds of the immigrants who obtained permanent legal status from 2012 to 2016 could be blocked from doing so under the new so-called public charge rule (Excerpt) Read more at nytimes.com ...

So much for having the coronavirus outbreak under control. While Xi Jinping’s government insists that they have turned the corner on the rapid spread of the disease, their actions tell another story. For the first time since the Cultural Revolution, the Communist Party-controlled parliament will postpone its regular March session — a major blow for state propaganda efforts in more ways than one: China has postponed its most important political gathering as the country struggles to contain a deadly coronavirus outbreak that has spread to more than two dozen other nations. China’s top legislature approved a draft decision on Monday to delay the annual parliament session set to take place in Beijing in March. A new date will be decided at a later time, according to state media outlet CGTN, which is owned by CCTV, the national media organization of China. It’s the first time in decades that the assembly has been postponed, since the Cultural Revolution.

Harvey Weinstein was convicted Monday of rape and sexual assault against two women and was led off to prison in handcuffs, sealing his dizzying fall from powerful Hollywood studio boss to archvillain of the #MeToo movement. The 67-year-old Weinstein had a look of resignation on his face as he heard the verdict that could put him away for the rest of his life. The charges carry up to 29 years behind bars. “This is the new landscape for survivors of sexual assault in America, I believe, and it is a new day. It is a new day because Harvey Weinstein has finally been held accountable for crimes he committed,” District Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr. said. “Weinstein is a vicious, serial sexual predator who used his power to threaten, rape, assault and trick, humiliate and silence his victims.” Weinstein’s lawyers said they will appeal. A retired NYPD police officer who died by suicide on Long Island last week was the second active or former city cop to take his own life in a span of four days, the Daily News has learned. Daniel Shirreffs, 46, hanged himself inside his home in Seaford on Thursday, sources with knowledge of the case said. Shirreffs retired from the NYPD last year, sources said. He had served the department for 23 years and was last assigned to the NYPD Driver Education and Training Unit, which is headquartered at Floyd Bennett Field in Brooklyn.
