Migrants in Germany who return to Syria for holidays may lose their refugee status, according to German Interior Minister Horst Seehofer. "If somebody, a Syrian refugee, regularly takes holidays in Syria, he cannot honestly claim to be persecuted in Syria," Seehofer told Bild am Sonntag weekly, adding "We would strip him of his refugee status." If German officials learn that a migrant is on holiday in the nation they claim to have fled, a probe will be launched into their refugee status, Seehofer added. If anything, the consolidation in the Permian and other shale basins, increasingly led by the oil majors, ensures that drilling will continue at a steady pace for years to come.It isn’t as if the rest of the world is slowing down either. The global oil industry is set to greenlight $123 billion worth of new offshore oil projects this year, nearly double the $69 billion that moved forward last year, according to Rystad Energy. In fact, while shale drilling has slowed a bit over the past year amid investor skepticism and poor financial returns, offshore projects have begun to pick up pace. New eligibility rules de Blasio unveiled scrap credit-rating, Social Security and taxpayer identification requirements if applicants can show 12 consecutive monthly rent payments. “For too long, families without access to credit have faced barriers to the affordable housing they need,” de Blasio said Wednesday. “By allowing New Yorkers to submit rental history instead of credit checks, we are creating a fairer system for all New Yorkers.” The mayor’s goal of creating or preserving 300,000 units of affordable housing by 2026 has been one of his signature programs, which he’s touted while campaigning for the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination. The city’s 500,000 undocumented immigrants would be able to participate in a lottery that already attracts more than 500 applicants for each available unit, said Bitta Mostofi, commissioner for the Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs. Unlike federal housing programs that bar undocumented immigrants from applying for U.S. funded public or subsidized housing, they were never legally disqualified from city housing programs, said Margy Brown, associate commissioner for housing opportunity in the city’s Department of Housing Preservation & Development. By ending credit-rating requirements, there’s no need for an applicant to provide Social Security and taxpayer documents, making it easier for non-citizens to qualify, she said. “We are committed to ensuring that New Yorkers across the board have equal access to affordable housing,” she said. Zalmay Khalilzad, the U.S. special representative for Afghanistan reconciliation, is traveling to Qatar to resume peace talks with the Taliban and will later visit Kabul for consultations with the Afghan government, the U.S. State Department said Aug. 20. Khalilzad's return indicates the U.S. willingness to sign a deal with the Taliban to end the war in Afghanistan. The envoy indicated that he intends for an agreement to be completed before Afghanistan's presidential elections, currently scheduled for Sept. 28. The Justice Department announced Tuesday that authorities in Brazil arrested three human smugglers who were funneling “scores of individuals from East Africa and the Middle East” into the United States via Brazil. The Brazil Federal Police raided the “transnational criminal organization” and arrested three “Brazil-based human smugglers on Brazilian charges.” The men include Somalian national Abdifatah Hussein Amed, Abdessalem martini, an Algerian, and Mohsen Khademi Manesh, an Iranian national, according to an official statement. This counts of as a significant counterterrorism-border security coup. pic.twitter.com/dCiLoLulgK — Todd Bensman (@BensmanTodd) August 20, 2019 “We commend today’s efforts by our Brazilian counterparts to take decisive action under their recently enacted human smuggling laws against criminal networks that threaten the national security of Brazil, the United States and other nations,” Assistant Attorney General Brian Benczkowski said. “Such collaborative efforts with our foreign law enforcement partners show our collective resolve to hold international human smugglers to account to the fullest extent of the law.” The investigation was coordinated through the Extraterritorial Criminal Travel Strike Force, which serves the Justice Department, Criminal Division’s Human Rights and Special Prosecutions, and ICE’s Homeland Security Investigations. “The ECT program focuses on human smuggling networks that may present particular national security or public safety risks, or present grave humanitarian concerns,” according to the statement from the Justice Department. The fishy details surrounding Jeffrey Epstein, the child sex predator and prominent Democratic Party donor who died of an alleged suicide earlier this month, continues to get more bizarre by the day, as it becomes more obvious that the paper trail that could connect prominent figures to his illicit sex ring is drying up. Some information that could have been helpful in creating leads were logs showing who visited Jeffrey Epstein while he was on work release from June 30, 2008, to July 22, 2009. This was the sentence he received after being granted an extremely lenient sentence after pleading guilty on two charges of soliciting underage girls. It was alleged in three lawsuits filed this week that Epstein’s underage victims were still being transferred to Epstein’s Florida residence while he was serving his sentence on work release. These logs could have provided some clarity as to which associates Epstein was providing with underage prostitutes at that time. However, that information will never be known to the public – as the logs were mysteriously destroyed by law enforcement. Deputies maintained the records and kept them stored away in a safe so it could be preserved, only to inexplicably eliminate it before it could be properly analyzed by investigators. The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s office claims that they were adhering to the retention schedules that were prescribed by law, but other records from around that time were kept intact. Thousands of pages of records were released recently, including the name of every deputy assigned to provide Epstein with security as he continued to live his lavish life with the legal repercussions being little more than a formality. Records show that Epstein was able to spend six days a week at his private office, enjoying regular trips to the chiropractor while on work release. Epstein paid deputies, who wore suits while on the job, for security as the jail often referred to him as a “client” rather than an inmate. “His financial status lends itself to his being victimized while in custody and as such, he has been placed in special management,” Capt. Mark Chamberlain wrote in an email addressed on the day Epstein reported to jail. “He is poorly versed in jail routine and society and his adjustment to incarceration will most likely be atypical. For the time being, I am authorizing that his cell door be left unlocked and he be given liberal access to the attorney room where a TV will be installed,” Chamberlain added.

Let the state governments deal with the compliance costs. That alone will save taxpayers and companies untold amounts of money. The states are also in a much better position to go on a tax strike than the citizens. I don't know why the founders allowed any other kind of internal tax for the feds, they knew about this kind of taxation, it's how feudalism operated.

According to Fathom Consulting, a global independent macro research consultancy, it's proprietary China Momentum Indicator 2.0 has slowed to 4.6% in June, the lowest reading since Aug. 2016. There is also a growing gap between the China Momentum Indicator 2.0 at 4.6% and official GDP data at 6.2%. Might suggest China's economy hasn't yet bottomed, could continue to decline through 2H19 into 1H20. Gary Cohn, the former chief economic advisor to Donald Trump, has said the slowdown predates the trade war and reflects a strategic decision by China to rebalance the economy. Fathom notes that China's economy was even slowing before the rebalancing. The global macro research firm said, "with the consumer share of total import demand on a downward trend since 2016, we also find little evidence to suggest that China is successfully rebalancing." Since the trade war began last March, the renminbi has weakened 13% against the U.S. dollar, neutralizing some of the tariffs imposed by the U.S. on imports from China.

It lets each state decide how much to tax their citizens and how to tax them. And it rewards low tax/low spending states and discourages high tax/high spending.

A Victoria’s Secret-style catwalk show with child models has caused controversy in China. Young girls dressed in bikinis and fluffy underwear have been pictured walking the runway at a show in a shopping centre in Chengdu, China’s Sichuan Province. The child models are also sporting full make-up and their lingerie is accessorised with feathers, jewels and even wings – just like the famous Victoria’s Secret angels. The girls, some of whom are believed to be as young as five-years-old, take to the catwalk in small two-pieces and headresses as people in the audience take photographs.
