A middle-aged man with a beard has been accepted to stand for a woman-only position in a local Labour Party branch because he “identifies” as female for a few hours a day once a week. The Basingstoke Labour Party accepted David Lewis, 45, as an official candidate for their “women’s officer” role, where he will be responsible for representing women’s issues and recruiting more females. “I self-identify as a woman on Wednesdays, between 6.50 am when my alarm goes off and around midnight when I go to bed,” Mr. Lewis told the Spectator, explaining that he does not change his pronouns, clothes, appearance, or behaviour. The Labour Party frequently discriminates and uses all-women positions and shortlists, and recently all-ethnic minority lists, to encourage “diversity” in their ranks. However, earlier this year, they fully embraced transgender ideology allowing anyone to “self-identify” as a woman and apply for these positions. Some feminists are opposed, claiming biological women will be disadvantaged and men may take advantage of the rules. They have tried to bring a legal challenge against the party, insisting men legally change gender before standing for female roles. On Wednesday, Israel’s Knesset voted to debate whether to recognize that the Ottoman Turkish government exposed Armenians to a genocide in the early 20th century, Haaretz reported. It is not immediately known when the debate, lobbied by left-wingers from the Meretz party, is due to be held. The Israeli government this time abstained from officially commenting on the motion, although it previously objected to holding such talks in the Knesset. Such proposals were blocked due to the special ties Israel had with Azerbaijan, but as tensions rose following Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s anti-Israeli statements last week, several parliamentarians announced plans to submit a draft bill on recognizing the Armenian genocide. 73 percent of American drivers, up 10 percent from last year, are “scared” to use driverless vehicles, according to a survey from the American Automobile Association. “The millennial demographic has been the most affected, according to the survey of more than 1,000 drivers. From that age group, 64 percent said they’re too afraid to ride in an autonomous vehicle, up from 49 percent — making it the biggest increase of any age group surveyed,” Mashable reported, adding, “This data follows similar trends showing increased fear about self-driving vehicles following the deadly March crashes in the Bay Area and Arizona.” More at: http://www.breitbart.com/tech/2018/05/23/report-73-percent-of-americans-are-scared-to-use-driverless-cars/

Montenegro is making plans for a fence along its border with Albania as the migrant crisis in the Balkans heats up again. Migrants and human traffickers are forging new pipelines through the Balkan Peninsula to the European Union after a primary route exploited by hundreds of thousands in the 2015 surge was effectively sealed off. “In the case of a greater influx of migrants, we may raise a razor wire fence on the border with Albania,” said Vojislav Dragovic, head of Montenegro’s department for state border supervision. He accused Albania of refusing to re-admit migrants once they had been rejected by Montenegro, despite bi-lateral agreements obligating them to do so. Montenegro is seeing an increase in migrants attempting to cross its borders in their quest to reach Croatia and EU soil. Similarly, nearby Bosnia and Herzegovina is experiencing a large build-up of ‘asylum seekers’ who have totally overwhelmed Sarajevo’s modest migrant centers and continue to arrive by the thousands. “We expect about 50,000 arrivals by the end of the year,” Adnan Tatarevic, a Sarajevo-based pro-migrant activist, told Reuters. The government of Republika Srpska, which represents the Serbian entity of Bosnia and Herzegovina, has called for increased measures to secure the nation’s borders. The FBI has sent or plans to send letters to Peter Strzok and Lisa Page "asking them to preserve agency records on their personal accounts and personal devices and requesting confirmation that they are doing so," according to the conservative government watchdog Judicial Watch. The FBI informed Judicial Watch they would be making the request as a result of a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit in which the watchdog was seeking thousands of pages of documents on the personal devices of the pair which could include emails, chats, text messages, and travel documents. The Senate on Wednesday is expected to easily pass legislation to give veterans the option to seek private-sector medical care when the Department of Veterans Affairs is unable to provide a patient with adequate or timely health services, Sen. Johnny Isakson (R., Ga.) said Tuesday. Isakson, who chairs the Senate Veterans Affairs Committee, said President Donald Trump will sign the measure by the end of the week, codifying it into law just days before Memorial Day. The bill, called the VA Mission Act, sailed through the House last week in a 347-70 vote. “I’m delighted to say that a few days before the celebration of Memorial Day we’re going to pass through the United States Senate, and the president is going to sign later this week, the VA Mission bill, which is the final piece of the mosaic we started two years ago to put together to fix the veterans healthcare service system—make it more accountable, make it relative to our veterans, and make sure we use the private sector as a force multiplier to deliver health services to our veterans at their choice,” Isakson told reporters during a news conference. “The veterans, in consult with their primary care VA doctor, will be able to choose the doctor of their choice and the service of their choice, whether through the VA or delivered in the private sector, based on quality, accessibility, availability, and the choice of the veteran.” More at: http://freebeacon.com/issues/sweeping-veterans-choice-bill-become-law-days-memorial-day/

The Defense Department is funding a project that officials say could revolutionize the way companies, federal agencies and the military itself verify that people are who they say they are and it could be available in most commercial smartphones within two years. The technology, which will be embedded in smartphones’ hardware, will analyze a variety of identifiers that are unique to an individual, such as the hand pressure and wrist tension when the person holds a smartphone and the person’s peculiar gait while walking, said Steve Wallace, technical director at the Defense Information Systems Agency. Organizations that use the tool can combine those identifiers to give the phone holder a “risk score,” Wallace said. If the risk score is low enough, the organization can presume the person is who she says she is and grant her access to sensitive files on the phone or on a connected computer or grant her access to a secure facility. If the score’s too high, she’ll be locked out. Nextgov spoke with Wallace on the sidelines of a DISA press conference during a cybersecurity event hosted by the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association.

As wild speculation and questions abounded early this week over the whereabouts and status of Saudi crown prince Mohammed bin Salman (MbS) — with some going so far as to suggest he was assassinated during a palace shootout a month ago — Saudi Arabia tried to clamp down on the rumors by releasing an awkward photo of the crown prince socializing with other heads of state, including President Sisi of Egypt, at a swimming pool while wearing a baseball cap pulled low over his eyes. The prior ball cap photo in which half of bin Salman's face was obscured only served to fuel more rumors and conspiracies about his fate, prompting a lengthy article in the Spectator chronicling the theories and examining the photo, which was deemed "impossible to verify" and "a strange way to convince the world MBS is fighting fit." Official photographic "proof" of the crown prince chairing a meeting released early Wednesday by his press spokesman via Twitter. And below the initial 'baseball cap photo' released earlier this week. لقاءٌ وديٌّ يستمر بين الأشقاء.. كان في ضيافة فخامة الرئيس المصري عبدالفتاح السيسي قبل أيام. pic.twitter.com/Va3f1b4XVc — بدر العساكر B.Asaker (@Badermasaker) May 17, 2018 MAG: Is the Saudi crown prince dead? In his first statement since Pompeo's Wednesday speech, Iran's Supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei set 7 conditions for the European nations if they want Tehran to remain in the agreement. In the wake of Washington's threats to target EU firms dealing with the Islamic Republic amid US sanctions, the Iranian leader said that - first and foremost - European banks should guarantee and assure trade with Iran. "European banks should safeguard trade with the Islamic Republic. We do not want to start a fight with these three countries (France, Germany and Britain) but we don't trust them either, Khamenei said. "Europe should fully guarantee Irans oil sales. In case Americans can damage our oil sales... Europeans should make up for that and buy Iranian oil." Khamenei laid out the full list on Twitter on Trump's favorite social media network, remainder of continued on twitter where in a brief tweetstorm, he unveiled the following demands of Europe: Over the course of 2 years, US violated #JCPOA, several times, while the Europeans remained silent. These 3 European countries should prove that they won’t be as dishonest & untrustworthy as they were during nuclear talks in 2004-2005. Europe needs to compensate for it: The US has violated Resolution 2231. Europe must issue a resolution against US’s violation .

In the latest sign that contrary to the official rhetoric, tensions between the US and China are in fact escalating as China reaffirms its dominance of contested territory in the South China Sea (see "China Releases Footage Of Bombers Landing On Disputed Island For The First Time") the US has disinvited China from the Pacific Rim Military Exercises, the Pentagon told AFP. #BREAKING US disinvites China from Pacific military exercises: Pentagon — AFP news agency (@AFP) May 23, 2018 According to Inside Defense, the US military revoked the invitation because of Beijing's aggressive actions in the South China Sea, which have recently included reports that it quietly installed "defensive" missiles capable of striking US territory in the Spratly Islands. More than 20 countries, 40 ships, 200 aircraft and 25,000 personnel are expected to participate in the exercises. As the WSJ notes, China’s inclusion in the previous two Rimpac exercises was among the most tangible results of an effort by both sides since late 2010 to stabilize military ties that had often been interrupted by China over American arms sales to Taiwan. The U.S. decision to revoke the invitation is likely to heighten tensions between Beijing and Washington amid fraught negotiations that aim to avoid a trade war. “I think throwing them out of Rimpac would be a major political statement,” said a Senate staff member who follows the issue closely. The US said it has "strong evidence" that China deployed anti-ship missiles, surface to air missiles and electronic jammers in contested parts of the Spratlys. The US called on China to remove the items. "The United States is committed to a free and open Indo-Pacific," the Pentagon states. "China's behavior is inconsistent with the principles and purposes of the RIMPAC exercise." The Pentagon asserts it has "strong evidence" that China has deployed anti-ship missiles, surface-to-air missile systems and electronic jammers to contested areas in the Spratly Islands region of the South China Sea. "China's landing of bomber aircraft at Woody Island has also raised tensions," according to the Pentagon, referencing China's largest military outpost in the South China Sea.

In an incident that ominously mirrors a series of similar attacks in Havana that left more than 20 State Department employees with serious injuries, a health alert has been issued to US citizens in China after an American government worker suffered symptoms from what appeared to be some kind of sonic attack. The US Embassy in China issued the following statement this morning in response to the incident: A U.S. government employee in China recently reported subtle and vague, but abnormal, sensations of sound and pressure. The U.S. government is taking these reports seriously and has informed its official staff in China of this event. We do not currently know what caused the reported symptoms and we are not aware of any similar situations in China, either inside or outside of the diplomatic community. The description of the sound - which the victim said produced abnormal sensations and pressures - sound eerily familiar to a series of similar "sonic attacks" that afflicted US embassy personnel in Havana, beginning shortly after President Trump defeated Hillary Clinton in the 2016 presidential race. Though their source has never been determined, the attacks damaged relations between the US and Cuban governments and also left some embassy employees with mild brain damage. The US recalled most of its embassy staff from Havana before expelling 15 Cuban diplomats from Washington in response to the alleged attack. The incident in China occurred just as Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is preparing to meet with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Washington late Wednesday, and as trade talks between the US and China appear to have reached an impasse. The employee who was injured reported hearing "subtle and vague, but abnormal, sensations of sound and pressure," according to a copy of the alert obtained by NBC. It warns any US citizen who experiences similar sensations to move quickly move somewhere else. "We do not currently know what caused the reported symptoms and we are not aware of any similar situations in China, either inside or outside of the diplomatic community."

Yulia Skripal has made her first statement since being released from the hospital after a near-fatal poisoning with the nerve agent Novichok. “My life has been turned upside down,” the daughter of former Russian double agent Sergei Skripal told Reuters in Russian, speaking from a secret location in London, where she is under protection from the British state. She made a formal statement on camera and signed a document written in Russian and English, verifying that she is the author of the statement. “We are so lucky to have both survived this attempted assassination," she said in her statement. “Our recovery has been slow and extremely painful.” She declined to discuss the details of her recovery but said in Russian that treatment for the poisoning was “invasive, painful and depressing.” (Much has been made by some of a scar visible on her neck.) A Kremlin spokesman said he thought Yulia Skripal was speaking under duress, but Yulia denied that. “No one speaks for me, or for my father but ourselves,” she said. Yulia has declined Russia’s request that she meet with Russia’s ambassador in London. “As I try to come to terms with the devastating changes thrust upon me both physically and emotionally, she said in her statement, “I take one day at a time and want to help care for my Dad till his full recovery.” She said she hopes one day to return to Russia.
