Not even when the Gestapo comes to slash their own throats in the middle of the night. Oh, maybe privacy WAS important after all. Those should not be famous last words before being put down like a rabid pit bull, or a Jew by the Nazis.

Mark Cady, the soft-spoken chief justice of the Iowa Supreme Court who wrote key decisions on gay marriage and abortion access that rankled social conservatives, has died at the age of 66. Cady died unexpectedly Friday night from a heart attack, his family said in a statement posted on the court’s website. Cady wrote the 2009 unanimous opinion that made Iowa the nation’s third state to permit same-sex marriage. The ruling came years before the 2015 U.S. Supreme Court decision that struck down gay marriage bans throughout the country. "We are firmly convinced the exclusion of gay and lesbian people from the institution of civil marriage does not substantially further any important governmental objective," Cady wrote for the court. The ruling led to a backlash from conservatives, who voted out three of the justices in 2010, though Cady wasn’t up for a retention vote that year. Last year, Cady led a 5-2 majority of justices who concluded that a law requiring women to wait 72 hours before a doctor could perform an abortion was unconstitutional because "autonomy and dominion over one's body go to the very heart of what it means to be free." The ruling angered conservatives and led to passage of a law this year that gave the governor more control over nominees to put on the courts. The law also reduced Cady’s eight-year term as chief justice by three years, forcing him to step down as chief in 2021, which would have cut his pay by about $8,000 a year. A legal challenge to the law will be heard by the Iowa Court of Appeals. Cady sided with the majority in a 4-3 decision three years ago that barred sentences of life without parole for teenagers, finding it cruel and unusual punishment. And he worked to limit a 2017 law that allowed guns to be carried in courthouses throughout the state. After issuing an order banning guns from courthouses, he compromised with a revised order allowing county supervisors or other local government officials to file written requests to allow guns in their buildings.

Edwards was almost a conservative. But the people of LA will regret this. I wouldn't be surprised to find out this was stolen too. At least the Republicans swept everything else in the last election.

The timing is right for everyone to understand what Donald Trump is doing, and try to decrypt the ambiguity of how he is is doing it. The controversial President has a much clearer agenda than anyone can imagine on both foreign policy and internal affairs, but since he has to stay in power or even stay alive to achieve his objectives, his strategy is so refined and subtle that next to no one can see it. His overall objective is so ambitious that he has to follow random elliptic courses to get from point A to point B, using patterns that throw people off on their comprehension of the man. That includes most independent journalists and so-called alternative analysts, as much as Western mainstream fake-news publishers and a large majority of the population. About his strategy, I could make a quick and accurate analogy with medication: most pills are designed to cure a problem, but come with an array of secondary after-effects. Well, Trump is using medication solely for their after-effects, while the first intent of the pill is what’s keeping him in power and alive. By the end of this article, you’ll see that this metaphor applies for just about every decision, move or declaration he’s made. Once you understand what Trump is about, you’ll be able to appreciate the extraordinary presidency he’s conducting, like no predecessor ever came close to match. To start off, let’s clear the one aspect of his mission that is straightforward and terribly direct: he’s the first and only American President to ever address humanity’s worst collective flaw, its total ignorance of reality. Because medias and education are both controlled by the handful of billionaires that are running the planet, we don’t know anything about our history that’s been twisted dry by the winners, and we don’t have a clue about our present world. As he stepped in the political arena, Donald popularized the expression «fake news» to convince the American citizens, and the world population as well, that medias always lie to you. The expression has now become commonplace, but do you realize how deeply shocking is the fact that nearly everything you think you know is totally fake? Media lies don’t just cover history and politics, but they have shaped your false perception on topics like economy, food, climate, health, on everything. What if I told you that we know exactly who shot JFK from the grassy knoll, that the foreknowledge of Pearl Harbor was proven in court, that the CO2 greenhouse effect is scientifically absurd, that our money is created through loans by banks who don’t even have the funds, or that science proves with a 100% certainty that 911 was an inside job? Ever heard of a mainstream journalist, PBS documentary or university teacher telling you about any of this? 44 Presidents came and went without even raising one word about this huge problem, before the 45th came along. Trump knows that freeing the people out of this unfathomable ignorance is the first step to overall freedom, so he started calling mainstream journalists and their news outlets for what they are: pathological liars. «Thousands of mental health professionals agree with Woodward and the New York Times op-ed author: Trump is dangerous.» – Bandy X. Lee, The Conversation 2018 «The question is not whether the President is crazy but whether he is crazy like a fox or crazy like crazy.» – Masha Gessen, The New Yorker 2017

A body of research putting people with Type 2 diabetes on a low calorie diet has confirmed the underlying causes of the condition and established that it is reversible. Professor Roy Taylor at Newcastle University, UK has spent almost four decades studying the condition and will present an overview of his findings at the European Association For The Study Of Diabetes (EASD 2017) in Lisbon. In the talk he will be highlighting how his research has revealed that for people with Type 2 diabetes: Excess calories leads to excess fat in the liver As a result, the liver responds poorly to insulin and produces too much glucose Excess fat in the liver is passed on to the pancreas, causing the insulin producing cells to fail Losing less than 1 gram of fat from the pancreas through diet can re-start the normal production of insulin, reversing Type 2 diabetes This reversal of diabetes remains possible for at least 10 years after the onset of the condition

South African police detained more than 180 foreign nationals for storming the UN refugee agency in Pretoria, where they had been staging a sit-in protest, police said Saturday. "One hundred and eighty two men and one woman were taken into custody by the police at different police stations," said provincial police spokeswoman Mathapelo Peters in a statement on Saturday. They were being held on trespassing charges and were expected to appear before the Pretoria Magistrate Court on Monday, she added. The statement said police used water cannons to disperse the protesters, who retaliated with rocks and other objects. The sit-in was cleared and hundreds of women and children were bussed to a repatriation centre on the outskirts of Johannesburg as "temporary accommodation", said Peters. Meanwhile, the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) said it would not press charges against foreigners who attacked an archbishop and several others at a church in Cape Town on Friday. The foreigners -- many of whom also claim to be asylum-seekers -- had sought refuge at the church after they were evicted from a similar sit-in protest at a building hosting the UNHCR in Cape Town.

A series of howls and shrieks recorded in the Canadian wilderness have left a hunter and government biologists searching for explanations. Gino Meekis was out hunting grouse with his wife and grandson in the forests of north-western Ontario – more than 50km from the closest town – when they heard a series of eerie noises in the distance. “When it let out the first scream, I thought it was a moose, but my mind changed when it screamed again and again,” Meekis told Vice. A resident of Sioux Lookout, Meekis is an avid hunter and has grown accustomed to the sights and sounds of the region. Moose, black bears and wolves are relatively common sights in the backcountry. “I’ve heard many different animals in the wild but nothing like this. I grew up hunting with my grandfather for the first 12 years of my life,” he said. The howls initially came from the distance but soon they appeared to move much closer, said Meekis. “We could hear it moving … it sounded kind of heavy,” Meekis told CTV News. “But my wife, she got scared … picked up and started walking fast towards the vehicle.” As the group retreated, Meekis pulled out his phone and began recording the howls as well as his grandson trying to mimic them.

We don't need to call Centralized Federalism "Nationalism". It's very obvious that the point is to confuse and trick people into opposing Nationalism
