So much for having the coronavirus outbreak under control. While Xi Jinping’s government insists that they have turned the corner on the rapid spread of the disease, their actions tell another story. For the first time since the Cultural Revolution, the Communist Party-controlled parliament will postpone its regular March session — a major blow for state propaganda efforts in more ways than one: China has postponed its most important political gathering as the country struggles to contain a deadly coronavirus outbreak that has spread to more than two dozen other nations. China’s top legislature approved a draft decision on Monday to delay the annual parliament session set to take place in Beijing in March. A new date will be decided at a later time, according to state media outlet CGTN, which is owned by CCTV, the national media organization of China. It’s the first time in decades that the assembly has been postponed, since the Cultural Revolution.

Harvey Weinstein was convicted Monday of rape and sexual assault against two women and was led off to prison in handcuffs, sealing his dizzying fall from powerful Hollywood studio boss to archvillain of the #MeToo movement. The 67-year-old Weinstein had a look of resignation on his face as he heard the verdict that could put him away for the rest of his life. The charges carry up to 29 years behind bars. “This is the new landscape for survivors of sexual assault in America, I believe, and it is a new day. It is a new day because Harvey Weinstein has finally been held accountable for crimes he committed,” District Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr. said. “Weinstein is a vicious, serial sexual predator who used his power to threaten, rape, assault and trick, humiliate and silence his victims.” Weinstein’s lawyers said they will appeal. President Trump’s immigration policies — like travel bans and visa restrictions or refugee caps and asylum changes — have begun to deliver on a longstanding goal: Legal immigration has fallen more than 11 percent and a steeper cut is looming. While Mr. Trump highlights the construction of a border wall to stress his war on illegal immigration, it is through policy changes, not physical barriers, that his administration has been able to seal the United States. Two more measures were to take effect by Monday, an expansion of his travel ban and strict wealth tests on green card applicants. “He’s really ticking off all the boxes. It’s kind of amazing,” said Sarah Pierce, a policy analyst with the Migration Policy Institute, a nonpartisan research group. “In an administration that’s been perceived to be haphazard, on immigration they’ve been extremely consistent and barreling forward.” The number of people who obtained lawful permanent residence, besides refugees who entered the United States in previous years, declined to 940,877 in the 2018 fiscal year from 1,063,289 in the 2016 fiscal year, according to an analysis of government data by the National Foundation for American Policy. Four years ago, legal immigration was at its highest level since 2006, when 1,266,129 people obtained lawful permanent residence in the United States. Although the data provides only a glimpse of the effect of Mr. Trump’s agenda, immigration experts said it was the first sign of a decline that coming policies are most likely to exacerbate. Those include the wealth tests, which will be imposed on immigrants applying for green cards from both inside and outside the United States. Around two-thirds of the immigrants who obtained permanent legal status from 2012 to 2016 could be blocked from doing so under the new so-called public charge rule (Excerpt) Read more at nytimes.com ...

A retired NYPD police officer who died by suicide on Long Island last week was the second active or former city cop to take his own life in a span of four days, the Daily News has learned. Daniel Shirreffs, 46, hanged himself inside his home in Seaford on Thursday, sources with knowledge of the case said. Shirreffs retired from the NYPD last year, sources said. He had served the department for 23 years and was last assigned to the NYPD Driver Education and Training Unit, which is headquartered at Floyd Bennett Field in Brooklyn. President Trump reportedly told Attorney General William Barr that he wanted to do away with the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act. In a discussion last year about reauthorizing the spying law, Trump said he would rather abolish the law altogether than overhaul it, according to Axios. Barr told Trump reauthorization was needed, without any changes, for national security reasons. Several provisions of the law are set to expire in less than a month. "I trust you, Bill, but if it was up to me, we'd get rid of the whole thing,” Trump said, according to a source familiar with the conversation. The discussion happened several months before the Justice Department's independent watchdog released a blistering report on its investigation into alleged surveillance abuses against the Trump campaign during the 2016 election. Ron Paul's position from 2007: The talk must stop. We must secure our borders now. A nation without secure borders is no nation at all. It makes no sense to fight terrorists abroad when our own front door is left unlocked. This is my six point plan:

I dislike AIPAC & the Israel Lobby too. But the problem with people like Bernie sanders is that he doesn't oppose Foreign Aid. No Country should get Foreign Aid. This is 1st thing we should cut. Only people like Ron Paul get that!

Around seven-in-ten Hispanic voters (68%) say gun laws should be stricter than they are today This is why I oppose mass immigration! Hispanic Republican voters are more evenly divided, with 44% saying gun laws should be stricter and 42% saying gun laws are about right. Republicans should in the future not even try to get them to vote Republican. It's a waste of time. Meanwhile, about half (51%) of Hispanic Republican voters say it is not the government’s responsibility to ensure universal coverage, though most in this group prefer to keep Medicare and Medicaid. So 49% of Hispanic Republicans support single payer. The other 51% support Medicare & Medicaid which are both unconstitutional.
